Eliezer Auerbach - Ilanga Lafisha - Music Video
“I Langa Lifisha Uyaqugquzela”
Composer Eliezer Auerbach of Johannesburg, South Africa, has come out with this new arrangement
“Hayom Kotzer Vhamlocho Meruba.”
The lyrics taken from Pirkei Avos and translated into Zulu by Thuli Mazibutu.
Much of the attraction of the song is that Rabbi Eliezer Auerbach has joined with some of the best African singers in the Wits University Choir who managed to connect to the message and the values taken from Jewish sources, and transfer these through the song to the masses. The African language words fit with the rhythm and melody perfectly and a Zulu song is born.
The words of the Mishnah were translated into English, by the legendary composer and song writer, Abie Rotenberg, uncle of Rabbi Eliezer Auerbach, so that the finished product is rich and varied.
The arranging and conducting was done by Yoeli Dickman.
lyrics:
I langa I langa I langa lifisha. Nomsebenzi benzi moningi. Basebenzi baya vilapa iholo labo labo lilingi.
I langs lifisha nomsebenzi muingi basebenzi baya vilapa iholo labo liliningi umphati uyaqugquzela
The day is short…There is so much to do…The workers are so lazy…The pay is fine truly divine…the boss is pushing like crazy.

Judge Rules Home Can Be Used as Synagogue
A judge on Wednesday morning ruled in a case that pitted a Dallas house of worship against a neighborhood’s homeowners association. The legal battle has been brewing for more than a year, and it ended with a ruling in favor of Congregation Toras Chaim of Dallas.
The issue first started in 2013 when the homeowners association of Highlands at McKamy in far north Dallas took legal action against the synagogue. Orthodox Jewish members of the congregation worshiped daily at a private home in the neighborhood.
Homeowners said that this violated neighborhood rules.
Attorneys for the synagogue argued on Wednesday that the case should be dismissed, citing both federal and state laws which permit religious freedom. The judge ruled in their favor, throwing out the case.
Schneider said that he likes his neighbors, but wishes that they would find a different location for worship. He is not yet sure if he will file an appeal.

World's Tallest Ice Sculpture Collapses
What was supposed to be the world’s largest ice sculpture is now an icy pile of rubble on a Wisconsin shore.
The city of Superior’s hopes for a record-breaking ice spectacle came crashing down Tuesday morning, victim of weeks of unseasonably warm weather.
Minnesota artist “Iceman Roger” Hanson had been working on his 60 Feet six-story-tall “Lake Superior Ice Project” installation since early December, sleeping in a lakeside trailer by night and spending day after day spraying lake water onto a cable strung between two poles. As the water dripped down, it froze into fanciful shapes that inched higher every day.
Hanson, who was giving an interview to the New York Times at the moment it fell, posted a mesmerizing video of the collapse online, One of the icy pillars around the sculpture’s base caved in, followed by the millions of pounds of ice resting above it. One giant cube came to rest on top of the pile like a punctuation mark.
Hanson, a self-taught engineer, has spent years creating towering ice sculptures in his back yard in Big Lake. This winter, he approached Superior with an offer to make them something spectacular — something to draw the crowds the way the ice caves did when last year’s polar vortex froze Lake Superior solid.
Yichun, China, currently holds the world record for tallest ice sculpture, at 53 feet. Superior officials offered him $30,000 to break that record. He was aiming for 70 feet and was reportedly pushing 60 when it all came tumbling down.

Livni & Bennett Go Head to Head at Public Speaking Event
Jewish Home head goads Hatnua leader about departure from past remarks in favor of land concessions
Jewish Home leader Economy Minister Naftali Bennett confronts head of the Hatnua party Tzipi Livni: "You now regret your previous position on the withdrawal from the Golan, when will you sober up regarding Judea and Samaria?"
Bennett congratulated Livni on “wisening up” regarding the Golan after the Zionist Camp, which she is the co-leader of, announced that it opposes a withdrawal from the territory, a departure from remarks Livni made in 2008, arguing that Israel would need to make territorial concessions to Damascus in a peace deal.
In the video below of a speaking event they both attended, the Jewish Home leader takes the stage after Livni steps down and declares that given the about-face on the Golan Heights, Livni “has joined the Jewish Home way.” The party is well-known its vehement opposition to ceding land for peace, including (and especially) in any potential future peace deal with the Palestinians which would require a withdrawal from most of the West Bank.

Super Bowl 2015 Commercial Collection
The day on which the Super Bowl is played, now considered by some an unofficial American national holiday, is called "Super Bowl Sunday". It is the second-largest day for U.S. food consumption, after Thanksgiving Day. In addition, the Super Bowl has frequently been the most-watched American television broadcast of the year. The Super Bowl is also among the most-watched sporting events in the world, almost all audiences being North American, and is second to soccer's UEFA Champions League final as the most watched annual sporting event worldwide.
Last Sunday, the bone crunching down to the last minute clash between the winning New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks drew a historic 114.5 million viewers. Topping the 112.2 million audience of last year’s 43-8 blowout game on where the Seahawks smashed the Denver Broncos, Sunday night’s Super Bowl is now the most watched show in U.S. TV history. Viewership of the game surged to 120.8 million from 9:45 – 10 PM ET in the dramatic fourth quarter.

Footprints In Snow Lead Shomrim To Suspect In Flatbush
This is one cold case police in Brooklyn were happy about.
The neighborhood watch group, Flatbush Shomrim, received a call about two people trying to break into cars last week Tuesday morning.
When members of the group got to the scene the suspects were gone, but they had left behind a trail of footprints in the snow, the group’s executive coordinator Robert Moskowitz said.
“It was very easy to follow them,” Moskowitz said. “These guys were not rocket scientists.”
One set of footprints disappeared into an apartment building and “we lost him,” but the other set kept going, Moskowitz said.
The snow prints ended at the corner of Bedford and Avenue I. The suspect was easy to track down, because his footprints were the only ones in the fresh, newly-fallen snow.
“He was going in and out of driveways and sure enough, in one of the driveways, he entered a car,” Moskowitz said.
Shomrim called police, who arrested 20-year-old Terrel St. John.

Trial Begins In Hit-And-Run That Killed Glauber Couple
The man involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in March 2013 that killed an Orthodox Jewish couple and their unborn child is now on trial.
Julio Acevedo, 46, could face life in prison if found guilty.
On March 3, 2013, Acevedo’s BMW hit the cab taking Nachman and Raizel Glauber, both 21, to the hospital, Raizel was seven months pregnant at the time. Prosecutors say Acevedo was driving over 60 mph when he passed on a solid yellow line, then couldn’t stop in time to avoid the cab that entered the intersection.
Acevedo is suspected of leaving the scene of the accidents. He surrendered to police after four days on the run.
Acevedo has stated that he fled the scene of the accident because of his distrust of police. In 1987, he was convicted of a murder in which government authorities withheld information regarding a collaborator who confirmed Acevedo’s defense that he was forced to commit the murder.
His conviction was overturned 10 years later. While waiting for a new trial, Acevedo robbed a dice game and was offered a plea deal by a judge of time served for the manslaughter and robbery charges, which Acevedo accepted.
Those convictions mean Acevedo could face 12 years to life or 20 years to life if found guilty in the hit-and-run.

Groundhog Saw An Ear
The mayor of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Jonathan Freund, will likely remember this Groundhog Day for some time. During the annual ceremony on Monday morning, February 2nd, Freund said Jimmy the Groundhog whispered his forecast to him and that he said there would be an early spring. But maybe the mayor misheard, because Jimmy wasn’t all that happy about being held near the mayor and took a bite of the mayor’s ear.
Groundhog Day, February 2nd, is a popular tradition in the United States. It is also a legend that traverses centuries, its origins clouded in the mists of time with ethnic cultures and animals awakening on specific dates. Myths such as this tie our present to the distant past when nature did, indeed, influence our lives. It is the day that the Groundhog comes out of his hole after a long winter sleep to look for his shadow. If he sees it, he regards it as an omen of six more weeks of bad weather and returns to his hole. If the day is cloudy and, hence, shadowless, he takes it as a sign of spring and stays above ground.

Grizzly Outwits Biologist's Experiment
Nothing can come between a hungry bear and his dinner - not even the risk of an electric shock.
In never before seen footage a grizzly proves smarter than the average bear by stealing an electrified deer carcass from scientists. The bear made light work of an experiment aimed at deterring the animals from hunter’s kills. Wildlife biologist Heather Reich, 39, and her husband, photographer, Derek, 55, have studied bears in Montana, USA, for more than a decade. The couple wired a dead deer up to a fence charger designed to shock bears coming too close to human areas. But the persistent animal showed his capacity for problems solving by disconnecting the battery and making off with the prize.

Pilot Locked Out of Cockpit While Landing
A Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis to Las Vegas made an emergency landing in Vegas Thursday, when the pilot was locked out of the cockpit after taking a bathroom break.
The pilot addressed the passengers, saying, “I have some bad news,” passenger Jonathan Thalacker told ABC News. “I had to go to the bathroom, and when I came back out, I got locked out of the cockpit, the door is jammed.”
The first officer took over the controls and landed the plane. The MD-90 aircraft was not damaged, and none of the 168 passengers onboard were injured. The plane landed at 12:23 p.m., just 13 minutes after the emergency was declared, reports the Associated Press.
The plane had to be towed from the runway to the gate, because the co-pilot did not have access to the taxiing controls from his seat, passenger Jesse Dougherty told ABC News. But the plane still pulled into its regular gate at McCarran International Airport on time, at about 12:30 p.m.
Once on the ground, everyone on the aircraft started applauding, hollering, and calling out, “Thank God,” said Thalacker.
Airport spokeswoman Christine Crews told ABC that a door malfunctioned, it was an “unusual landing,” and the whole incident was taken very seriously.
Delta spokeswoman Lindsay McDuff said Delta crews are trained for these situations, and a commercial aircraft can be landed safefly with just one pilot. She said the doors are being studied by maintenance technicians.
A passenger told ABC that the maintenance crew found a piece of string that kept the door from opening, but that information has not been confirmed by officials.

Weatherman Makes Most of Glitch on a Forecast Map
It was 1350º, 1665º, 2960º, and 1270º in the greater Phoenix area Tuesday, according to Arizona’s Fox 10 News weather map. A consequence of global warming? More like a really unfortunate, but hilarious, technical glitch.
FOX 10 Arizona Morning’s weatherman Cory McCloskey just rolled with it: “1270 in Ahwatukee. Now, I’m not authorized to evacuate Ahwatukee, but this temperature seems pretty high…Frankly, Wickenburg [2385] is a total loss…Surprise is starting to heat up as well at 1300 degrees…Again, I’m not your dad, but I would get out while you still can.”
