The 12 Pesukim: 3 - B’chol Dor Vador - Ft. Joey Newcomb

Thank You Hashem is proud to bring the 12 Pesukim Project to our worldwide audience. This project focuses on a curated collection of foundational biblical verses and Rabbinic sayings that were introduced by the Lubavitcher Rebbe 50 years ago in 1976. His visionary initiative encourages children worldwide to memorize these specific texts, so that every single child should know these verses deeply, being fully armed, ready, and able to teach these foundational truths to other Jews everywhere.

The Tanya famously states that a person must see themselves every single day as if they personally left Mitzrayim, Egypt. It explains that the true concept of Yetzias Mitzrayim, the Exodus, is the ability to break out of any limitation—to transcend any menia, obstacle, constraint, or self-imposed ceiling. It counters the limiting beliefs that tell a Jew, "You are restricted; you are only capable of this much in your avodas Hashem, service of God, or you can only reach that far."

By taking us out of Mitzrayim, Hashem showed that a Jew is inherently boundless and possesses infinite kochos, powers. We are capable of tapping into that essential cheirus, freedom, on any given day to break through every barrier.

Ultimately, as the Rambam writes in Hilchos Teshuva, every individual has the potential to become as great as Moshe Rabbeinu. We must truly believe that this is what Yetzias Mitzrayim empowers us to do: it allows every single Jew to access the infinite strength within themselves to become the greatest tzaddik, righteous man, or tzadekes, righteous woman, the world has ever seen.

Chazal teach that “Im bechukosai teilechu” means putting your whole heart into learning Torah. Ameilus is not just working hard. It is being so in love with Hashem that you never want to stop connecting to Him.

Think about something you enjoy so much that when you have to pause, you wish you could stay with it a little longer. That is what real Torah learning can feel like. When your neshama connects, Torah becomes sweet, energizing, and alive. You unlock the guarantee of Chazal that Yagata Umatzasa Taamin- When you toil in learning you can become a Talmud Chacham- and through that you bring incredible nachas to Hashem.

The joy in Torah is everything. Torah is what lights us up. Torah learning is what keeps us alive and connected to Hashem. As the Alter Rebbe, The Ba’al Hatanya teaches in Chapter 5 of Sefer Hatanya “וְהוּא יִחוּד נִפְלָא שֶׁאֵין יִחוּד כָּמוֹהוּ וְלֹא כְּעֶרְכּוֹ נִמְצָא כְּלָל בְּגַשְׁמִיּוּת, לִהְיוֹת לַאֲחָדִים וּמְיוּחָדִים מַמָּשׁ מִכָּל צַד וּפִנָּה. The connection created through Torah is a wondrous connection, like which there is none other and which has no parallel anywhere in the material world, whereby complete oneness and unity, from every side and angle, could be attained.”

Rav Tzaddok Hakohen of Lublin expands this even further.” וכשאין לו צוותא יעסוק בתורה שהוא דפוס מעשה בראשית ושל כל הנבראים כמו שאמרו בבראשית רבה פרשה א, ונמצא יש לו צוותא של “כל הבריאה וכל העולם כולו. Paraphrased: Not only is one’s connection to Hashem created through Torah, but it also connects him to all other Yidden and really to the entire world. Torah creates tzavsa-connection and companionship, which humans so deeply need. Since the Torah is the blueprint of the world and Hashem looked within it and then created the world, by connecting to the plans for the world you are in essence connecting to the entirety of creation.

So take some special time after hearing this song to learn Hashem’s Torah and to share the sweetness of Torah with another Yid. It will enhance your connection to other Yidden, and to the Creator of the world.

Yevamos - יבמות | Joey Newcomb & Ohad

This song is inspired by the holy words of the Komarna Rebbe ZY’A, who describes a moment in his life when he stood at a crossroads, facing major decisions about which direction his path should take. While immersed in learning Gemara Yevamos, not as an intellectual exercise but as a deep act of connection to Hashem, a powerful Heavenly light suddenly descended upon him. The entire house filled with light, and he tangibly experienced the light of Gan Eden. Through this light, his confusions fell away and his path became clear.

We sing these words as a prayer for ourselves as well, that while learning Torah and seeking closeness to Hashem, we too should be granted clarity, have our doubts removed, and be able to serve Hashem with a full and open heart.

I was in Europe with the heiligeh Bais Medrash Ohr Gedalia chevra, visiting and learning about the various places of our people’s past. We were in the streets of Slabodka after having toured the famous Slabodka Yeshiva building, speaking over the inyanim of mussar for which the Yeshiva was most well-known. Standing there with the talented Yaakov Beer, he and I began learning the first words of the Mesilas Yesharim - יסוד החסידות ושורש העבודה התמימה - It didn’t take long we took out our guitars, and right outside the great yeshiva with all the chevra, this deep niggun was born.

From Joey: "It was the summer, I was sitting outside, and I felt like I wasn’t doing my avoida b’simcha, living b’simcha. Stam, I was feeling a moichin d’katnus, and for those who know me, you know I don’t like that ☺. It was really bothering me. I told myself, a Yid has to do whatever it takes to be b’simcha! I can’t stay like this! So, I got up and started running, mamish running around the backyard, saying the words “Ivdu Es Hashem B’simcha” over and over again to jolt myself out of this shvereh moichin (as is m’vuar in Reb Nachman, צריך להכריח את עצמו בכוח גדול להיות בשמחה תמיד, ולשמח את עצמו בכל אשר יוכל, ואפילו במילי דשטותא – ליקוטי מוהר”ן תנינא כד) After a while, between the chanting and panting to the beat of my step, these words started turning into a song until eventually it brought me back into a matziv of simcha"

"Last winter, I went on a ski trip with Reb Aryeh Weiss and the boys from Waterbury. While we were farbrengening in the mountains of Utah, Reb Aryeh shared a vort that mamish resonated with me deeply. He mentioned the inyan of saying "Elaka D’Meir Aneini" to have our tefilos answered. But why invoke Rebbi Meir specifically, rather than any other tzadik?

Reb Aryeh explained that in the Gemara Kiddushin, there's a machlokes involving Rebbi Meir. R’ Yehuda holds that the Yidden are only considered children of Hashem when they are behaving like His children, keeping His Torah and fulfilling His mitzvos. However, Rebbi Meir argues that whether a Yid is performing well in their spiritual avoida or not, they are - and always will be - a child of Hashem. L’maisa, the halacha is like Rebbi Meir.

Reb Aryeh pointed out that often, people come before Hashem with a tefilah, but they might not be in the best place in their ruchniyusdik’e journey and feel unworthy of having their tefilos answered. By mentioning Rebbi Meir, who teaches that we are always Hashem's children regardless of our current state, we affirm that a child will always receive a response from his Father, no matter how far he’s strayed.

I had my guitar with me and immediately started playing, inspired by this idea. Within a few minutes, we had a song worked out. Later, when I was in Eretz Yisroel, I shared this song with the boys at Yeshivas Beis Dovid (R’ Avi Wiesenfeld’s yeshiva) during a farbrengen. We sang it for a good ten minutes straight, and R’ Wiesenfeld remarked that this song truly encapsulates the essence of his yeshiva.

I asked the boys if they would help me film a music video for the song at Rebbi Meir's kever in Teveria, and Thank You Hashem they agreed.

I hope you enjoy the song, as it represents the special Father-son relationship we’re all zoche to have with Hashem.

"Never let that ole little note fool you, it’s got more power than you know! If you were to listen to someone play or sing the same note over and over again, it would sound lame and not exciting, however when you start to play different chords behind that note it starts to sound and feel different even though the note isn’t changing. As I was sitting once on my couch with guitar in hand, this concept hit me and I started to think deep about. The message I was feeling is the lyrics in the song however there are many messages and I hope that people will find there own inspiration the meaning of that one little note that seems insignificant. One morning as I was finishing up Davening, I got a message from my dear friends the Blumstein Brothers, excitedly telling me that they has just heard an incredible shiur about the holy Tanah, Reb Shimon Bar Yochai.

They told me that they had learnt about the holiness of the Tanah and how he started the process of Ge’ulah. It was Reb Shimon who taught us how to look past the surface and how to see the depth and beauty of everything and everyone around us.

Of course, they also attached this song that they had just written, expressing their reservations about it. I told them how much I loved it and how I felt it encapsulated the holy teaching that they had just shared with me. And the rest, as they say……is history!

Originally released a few years ago, we had DJ Farbreng add his unique sound to this upmix to help us connect to Heilige Reb Shimon on this special day of Lag B’omer.

In one moment, on a Motzei Shabbos in December 2021, our world was changed. Young Liel, was taken from us in a horrific auto accident, and the event shook the 5 towns, Great Neck and the wider Jewish community, leading to mass gatherings of sorrowful teffilah. At the forefront of this emotional outpouring was the Hatzalah members who were so deeply moved by what had happened that they also felt the need to gather together searching for chizzuk in light of this tragedy.

We are well aware of what Hatzalah does every day for Klal Yisroel, saving lives and offering medical assistance in each neighborhood. But often overlooked is the emotional toll all of this takes on the dedicated volunteers who are the first responders to many very devastating occurrences.

A few days after the accident, The Thank You Hashem team facilitated an intimate evening of strength for Hatzolah members with R’ Yussie Zakutinsky and Joey Newcomb. It was on this evening that this niggun came down. It immediately penetrated all hearts present as the deeply stirring and heartfelt melody blended perfectly with the words, to express a passionate cry to heaven.

In this tragedy and in all painful times we turn to Hashem and cry out: “Tatte—די—enough!
How many more צרות can we be afflicted with?
How much more hardship can we endure?
It's already enough!"

A song from the heart of Hatzolah, presented to you raw unpolished and untouched, expressing the deep emotions of a Yiddishe Neshama witnessing a world with pain and suffering. This is not just a tefillah for Hatzolah members, but the embodiment of Klal Yisroel’s outcry during thousands of years of galus. Oftentimes we become lax–life feels so good! But when we hear of or experience a צרה we express the timeless call to Hashem; Where is the גאולה?

The accompanying video is a collaborative effort between Thank You Hashem and The Hatzolah museum, which honors and pays tribute to Hatzolah members of past and present. On display in the museum and the video are many different Hatzolah items that were used during past opportunities to help Klal Yisroel over the many years of this great organization. Take a moment to absorb the profound impact of Hatzolah as you watch this meaningful video.

This song features the stirring vocals of Yosh Friedman, the son of Dr. Richard Friedman A”H(known in Hatzolah by his unit number ES72). Dr. Friedman was Hatzlah’s medical director for over 30 years and his untimely and tragic passing occurred on a Motzei Shabbos in 2018 as he was walking home from Shul.

Dr. Friedman A”H served as a mentor and guide for thousands of EMT’s and Paramedics, always taking time out of his busy schedule to assist those seeking his advice and guidance. He worked tirelessly to ensure that the organization was always performing with emergency medicine’s best practices by educating first responders on the latest tools and techniques.

Dr. Friedman is survived by his wife Cheryl and their eight children.

The power of a song is tremendous and while some songs are meant to uplift in joy and שמחה, others have the power to send us down the path of מחשבה, to allow us to reach deep into our נשמה in ways that other mediums cannot. It is our hope that the entire Klal Yisroel can find comfort knowing that even in sadness there is always an address for our prayers. Hashem is listening as we cry out to Him. May it be His will that all pain be healed, all sadness erased, and that we merit to see the coming of Moshiach, speedily and in our days.

A MESSAGE FROM R’ JOEY

Chazal tell us that דְּבָרִים הַיּוֹצְאִים מִן הַלֵּב נִכְנָסִים אֶל הַלֵּב – words that come from the heart, ‎find their way to the heart of the listener.

I can’t guarantee that I’m a yarei Shamayim and I can’t guarantee that I’m going to heaven after 120. The one thing that I can guarantee is that these niggunim are definitely יּוֹצְאִים מִן הַלֵּב – directly from my heart. They came from special moments of inspiration, from divrei Torah that I heard and from moments of deep hisboidedus.

And so I daven, that by connecting to the story behind the niggun, and by listening for the meaning and the message contained within each song, then the niggunim of my heart will find their way into the hearts of gantz Klal Yisroel.

Thank you for the incredible response and awesome feedback that you have given me over these past few years. The countless letters and emails that I’ve received expressing the chizuk that you’ve gotten from my music has been unbelievable. I pray that my music continues to do so, because that’s the whole avoida! We should be zoicheh, together as a Klal, to inspire each other to keep thanking Hashem. And whether all you know is Thank You Hashem, or Mi Ke’amcha, or you know some of the other ones too,

let’s join together in song and bring Moshiach once and for all!
