U’v’tuvcha HaGadol - Mordechai Ben David

A heartfelt cry from the soul of Klal Yisrael — a timeless prayer for Hashem’s kindness and mercy, both personally and as a nation. With humility, we turn to Hashem and beseech Him to embrace us with chesed and rachamim; to turn away His anger from His nation, Am Yisrael; His city, Yerushalayim; His land, Eretz Yisrael; and His inheritance, the Beis Hamikdash.

These words are part of our daily tefillos and are also recited in the Selichos of Edot HaMizrach. As we approach the Yamim Noraim, their meaning takes on a particular depth.

On Rosh Hashanah we proclaim Hashem’s sovereignty over all creation. We stand before Him as His people, bearing the ancient and unbroken yearning of generations — for Yerushalayim, for the Beis Hamikdash, and for the Geulah Sheleimah. U’v’tuvcha HaGadol gives voice to that yearning.

Mame Rochel - Live! • Mordechai Ben David

For generations, the cries of Mame Rochel, the one who could not rest when her children were sent into exile, echo. As the Jewish people wander through pain, tears, and uncertainty, her voice echoes from that lonely road near Beis Lechem. While others were silent, Rochel Imeinu wept - not for herself, but for her children - until Hashem Himself promised her, “There is reward for your tears… and the children shall return to their land.” Her tears never stopped flowing. Tonight, on her yahrzeit, we join together once more, pleading with Mame Rochel to carry our tears to the Kisei HaKavod, to intercede for her children and bring an end to our suffering.

I performed “Mame Rochel” live earlier this month at the Hebrew Music Museum in Yerushalayim, and I hope the emotion and longing embedded in every note continue to awaken that same timeless cry, the cry of a mother who still weeps for her children, and the hope of a nation waiting for her promise to be fulfilled.

We whisper the words that cut to the core: who will live and who will die, who will rise and who will fall. Yet amid all that awe there is also mercy. It’s a real chance to return and renew our bond with Hakadosh Baruch Hu. Singing this tefilla moves me beyond words. My hope is that this song helps you feel Hashem close and inspires all of us to live with more purpose in the year ahead.

This is more than a performance; it's a heartfelt tefillah that cuts through the surrounding darkness and echoes with both profound urgency and unwavering faith. With every note, it’s a moment of both pleading and proclamation, declaring complete reliance on Hashem.
