Mir Yerushalayim Bicentennial Celebration - Highlights
On Sunday March 26, several thousand people traveled to Bell Works in New Jersey to mark 200 years since the founding of Yeshivas Mir.
They came from all over the Western Hemisphere and they came in unison. They traveled from as far Mexico City and Los Angeles as well as from right around the corner in New York and New Jersey.
They came to celebrate and they came to congregate. They were there to reminisce and to reaffirm. They came liros as well as layroaos.
They arrived exuberant and left elated. What was it about the Bicentennial Celebration of Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim that stirred the emotions and raised expectations?
Was it the opportunity to see all our rebbeim in one room as we had done during our days in Yeshiva? Was it the experience of walking in the footsteps of the great Rav Shmuel Tikutinsky who established Yeshivas Mir 200 years ago and carried its financial burdens with much sacrifice?
Was it the electric feeling in the room as young and old gathered as one just as they had done in the hallowed hall of the Bais Medrash in Bais Yisroel? Was it the sight of all New York area Rabbonim and Roshei Yeshiva together that inspired the multitudes or was it the Sefer Torah of the alumni that drew carried the crowd to euphoria?
Was it the sacrifice and generosity of the Mir friends and supporters that gave poise to the moment or the incredible magnanimity and vision of Yeshivas Mir talmid Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz that astounded the participants and propelled them into a future of continued camaraderie and support of the yeshiva?

Rare Footage: Lubavitcher Rebbe Private Conversation
In a rare film, the Rebbe holds a private conversation with Rabbi Binyomin Gorodetski at the conclusion of a public audience. Rabbi Gorodetsky served as a Chabad emissary in Europe and North Africa for over four decades.
Rav Gorodetski, a veteran Chossid and Shliach of the Frierdiker Lubavitcher Rebbe and the Rebbe, is seen with the Rebbe at the conclusion of a Public Audience on 25 Nissan, 5745. In the rare film, scenes of a conversation which lasted more than 45 minutes, the Rebbe converses with Rav Gorodetski while sitting on the makeshift stage erected for the Public Audience.

Let us introduce you to Levi Cohen. Originally from London, England.
For Levy’s first music video, Producers Naftali and Shragi Schnitzler reached out to the Freilach Band who seamlessly executed this project, bringing you a beautiful version of “The 8th Note.” The song, which was released in 2008, was composed by legendary composer Yossi Green and is the title track of one of his most popular albums.
Levi is currently working on his exciting debut album. The album —containing a wide array of original songs— will be produced by the renowned Naftali Schnitzler.

The upcoming Bicentennial Anniversary Dinner of Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim is generating an unprecedented level of excitement and anticipation amongst the alumni from all periods of the Yeshiva’s existence. Talmidim are reminiscing with their friends about the time they spent together as they look forward to viewing the specially prepared exhibit that will portray the various tekufos in the Yeshiva’s history.
The event will be graced with the participation of the senior Roshei Yeshiva and Gedolei Yisroel in America. Talmidim of the Mir are making every effort to be part of this magnificient ma’amad of k’vod haTorah. They will be traveling from California, Texas, Canada, and the Midwest; their ranks include many distinguished Roshei Yeshiva and Rabbonim who have tremendous hakoras hatov to their alma mater.
The Roshei Hayeshiva of Mir will be joined at the Dinner by many members of the hanhalla, most notably the maggidei shiur whose close connection with the American bochurim and yungeleit goes back many decades. The program will include a special Siyum K’sivas Sefer Torah presented by the alumni to the Marbitzei and Lomdei Torah who are the Guests of Honor at this special Dinner event.
The Dinner will take place this Sunday, March 26th, at the Historic Bell Works Building in Homdel NJ.

Skier Dives For His Life To Avoid Avalanche
This is the incredible moment a skier - inches from possible death - purposefully crashes to save himself from being caught up terrifying avalanche.
Aloft a cliff-side somewhere in the Chopok mountain range, Slovakia, experienced skier Norbert Salva is about to have a very lucky escape.
Slaloming down the mountainside, the teenager swooshes and veers his way through the powdered white beneath his feet at speed.
Suddenly the snowy surface begins tho break away, and instinctively Norbert manages to hurtle himself to safely, possibly saving his life as inches to his right a huge avalanche tears past at frightening speed.

Giant Chicken or Grown Man in Costume?
Footage of a ridiculously large chicken has been sweeping the internet after a Twitter video of the bulky bird was uploaded on Sunday morning. In the clip, the large chicken can be seen emerging from its chicken coop and strutting around its pen, flapping its colossal wings and sauntering around on its massive haunches.
Some Twitter users are actually skeptical that what they’re looking at is — in fact — a chicken.
“So you’re going to tell me that’s not a grown man in a costume!?” wrote one incredulous user. “I still refuse to believe that giant chicken video is real,” wrote another.
However, the chicken, in the footage, reportedly from Kosovo and named Merakli, is very likely a Brahma chicken, a breed that was popular in the U.S. as a source of meat during the turn of the 20th century. This particular breed can grow to weigh as much as 18 pounds, and was originally developed from species imported from Shanghai. The average boiler chicken in the U.S. weighs just under 6 pounds, according to USDA statistics.
So on second thought, it’s not so surprising that many believe Merakli is just an adult human in a chicken suit.

The experts will tell you to let sleeping alligators lie, or something like that. Essentially they warn against approaching alligators, asleep or not, and they definitely advise against touching them.
Well, PGA golfer Cody Gribble didn’t follow the recommendation during the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Thursday when he strolled down the sixth hole at Bay Hill and noticed an alligator lying outside a water hazard.
Instead, he did this:

Father Jonathan Balkin set up a camera in his twin boys’ bedroom to see exactly what they were getting up to after he and his wife went to bed and the results are nothing short of amazing.
The little boys, Andrew and Ryan, climb out of their cribs and proceed to have a right royal time running around the room, creating a stack of pillows to play on and taking short breaks on the couch to catch their breath.
They carry on for so long that Jonathan had to speed up the video to fit it all into the short clip.
He and his wife can be seen entering the room twice to put the boys back to bed, but once the light is out again, they’re back at it!

Mid-air Drama as Oxygen Masks Deployed
VIN News - A 767 charter flight from London to Poland filled with chasidic passengers headed for Lizhensk to observe the yahrtzeit of the Noam Elimelech made an unscheduled landing in Amsterdam after an aircraft malfunction forced the pilot to issue a Mayday call.
Titan Airways flight AWC941 left Stansted at 9:21 local time, bound for Rzeszow, Poland approximately 25 miles from Lizhensk. But just 20 minutes into the flight, the flight crew received an indication that the passenger cabin was losing pressure.
The pilot of AWC941 issued a Mayday call at 9:43 GMT and oxygen masks dropped as the plane began its descent to make an emergency landing at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.
Passengers on the plane said that at the time, they felt they were in serious danger,
Despite the growing concern within the cabin, the aircraft landed safely in Amsterdam. Emergency crews were on standby as AWC 941 touched down on the runway.
Video posted to social media show passengers sitting in their seats wearing oxygen masks, singing songs of gratitude after their safe landing and the pilot explaining the problem to the passengers who are still surrounded by an overhead jungle of rubber oxygen masks.
The 767 was grounded as mechanics examine the plane for possible problems. Some of the passengers on the Rzeszow bound flight were able to get seats on other plans bound for Poland while others returned home to London.
Flight AWC 941 was estimated to be at 25,000 feet when the pilot noticed the problem and, according to the FAA, a pilot could lose his ability to take corrective action within five to 12 minutes at that altitude.

Palestinian Attempts Car-ramming Attack
A Palestinian woman attempted to ram into Israeli security forces, who responded with gunfire, in the West Bank on Wednesday afternoon, according to Israel's military.
The driver, identified as 16-year-old Fatma Jibril Ayed from southern Bethlehem, was shot and taken to a hospital in serious condition, according to medics. Israel's emergency medical service said a pregnant woman suffered an anxiety attack during the incident, but no physical injuries were immediately reported.
The incident occurred at the Gush Etzion intersection in the West Bank, which has been the site of numerous attacks in the past year and a half, although they have become less frequent in the past few months.
A wave of violence that broke out in October 2015 has killed 255 Palestinians, 40 Israelis, two Americans, one Jordanian, an Eritrean and a Sudanese national, according to an AFP count. Most of the Palestinians who lost their lives were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, according to the Israeli authorities. Others were killed during protests, in clashes or Israeli air raids on Gaza. Violence has greatly subsided in recent months, despite sporadic attacks.

Two Killed in Fireworks Blaze in Central Israel
Two people were R"L killed and five injured in a blaze at a fireworks warehouse in central Israel on Tuesday, police said.
Video footage showed a series of furious explosions as thousands of fireworks erupted in rapid succession. The roof of the warehouse was ripped off and nearby buildings were damaged in Porat, an agricultural community near Netanya, a city on the Mediterranean north of Tel Aviv.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said that of the five injured, one was in serious condition. Forensic units were scouring the area for evidence of how the blaze began, he said.

A little girl got caught up the wind while trying to get through her front door - literally getting blown away on a windy Ohio day.
Little Madison Gardner, 4, took quite a ride on the front door when a big gust of wind blew the door, along with Madison on it, right open.
Credit should be given to Madison for holding onto the doorknob with one hand, and what appears to be her mommy's phone in the other, as the door jolted to a stop against the side of the house.

Live television always leaves room for hilarious gaffes - which is exactly what happened when a BBC debate on South Korea was interrupted by the interviewee's children.
The hilarious footage shows expert Robert Kelly, an associate professor of Political Science at Pusan National University in Busan, handling serious questions on the country's president, Park Geun-hye, being ousted from power.
But suddenly, a toddler bursts into the room in a bright yellow top and performs a comical dance
Kelly, who was born and studied in the US before moving to Korea, focuses entirely on the camera as he attempts to blindly hand off his child, who is clearly curious as to who he is talking to.
And his parental problems soon double as a baby also excitedly makes his way into the room in a stroller.
To complete the farce, his wife then comes skidding through the threshold.
She grabs the two youngsters and attempts to drag them out of the door, but one of them can be heard wailing and the baby's stroller suddenly won't fit back through the door.

We must learn from Achashveirosh: Someone who spent 180 days partying and drinking, and then feasted for another seven days with decadent indulgence obviously had his priorities wrong, but he used his every resource and all his might. How much more-so must a Jew fulfill his priority – his G-d given mission – to his utmost, drawing on every talent, ability and resource G-d has granted him.
We cannot be satisfied by equaling or even surpassing the achievements of another person; we must achieve our own maximum potential, and even beyond. Man Juggles To Prove Sobriety
University of Central Arkansas student Blayk Puckett was pulled over by police late Friday night and proved his sobriety to officers by juggling.
Puckett was on his way home from the library and was driving slower than usual because he had a break light out. Police pulled him over suspecting that his slower speeds were the result of impaired driving.
Puckett is a junior at the university who for fun performs magic tricks on social media. Ironically, his license plate is “JUGGLER”.
During the traffic stop, Police asked Puckett what was in one of his pockets, which turned out to be some of his magic equipment. Puckett offered to perform a juggling trick for officers, who caught the moment on cell phone camera.
Officer Michael Hopper of the UCA Police says that officers did not use Puckett's juggling as proof of his sobriety or as a way to get out of a ticket. Hopper said all police business had been concluded prior to the demonstration.

New York has the largest Jewish population outside Israel, with about 1.7 million Jews.

Imagine watching a video where you can see everything. You can spin around the room to see all the different angles of what’s happening, while the actual video is going on. See who’s about to enter the room and what’s on the other side of the house. You’ll feel like you’re actually there!
It’s almost Purim, but this isn’t a joke! Sounds like a too-cool-to-be-true experience? Until recently it was. But just now, Oorah released the first ever kosher 360 video!
Here’s how to watch the 360 degree video: If you’re viewing it on a phone, you can spin yourself around to see the other angles- the sides, back, ceiling and floor, all while the video is playing. If you’re viewing it on a computer, use your mouse to move around the room. You get to decide where you want to be and which part of the party you want to watch. It’s a combination of virtual reality and good kosher fun!
We won’t ruin it by telling you all the details, but make sure you don’t miss out on any of it. There’s lots going on so make sure to keep turning!

Truck Takes Flight in Dramatic End to Police Pursuit
A high speed chase ended with a high flying crash in Webster Parish, Louisiana on Tuesday.
Kevonte Dekorey Austin was captured Tuesday after walking off a Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Transitional work release program back on February the 10th. It is believed he stole another employee’s vehicle.
Deputies say he and another person were speeding down Hwy. 371 in Webster Parish when they were pulled over for going 78 mph. As the deputy spoke with the driver, Austin is said to have jumped in the driver’s seat and took off.
The inmate was going more than 115 mph when he turned around and headed to Dixie Inn.
Spike strips were deployed and once the vehicle hit them it went airborne flipped and landed on the roof of a car in a restaurant parking lot. Deputies said a woman was sitting in the car when it was struck.
She climbed out and was unharmed.
Both the driver and Austin were taken into custody.
