Monsey To Brooklyn, Rubashkin Greeted By Thousands

VIN News - Just hours after word broke that President Donald Trump had commuted his sentence, Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin received a hero’s welcome at his family home in the New Hempstead section of Monsey.

Thousands took to the streets in Brooklyn and revelers packed Lubavitch world headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, where cases of Smirnoff were rolled in to celebrate the good news, an unexpected gift from the White House that came in the final moments of Chanukah.

Photographer Shimon Gifter was the first member of the media to speak with Rubashkin after his release in an exclusive VIN news interview that took place aboard a coach bus as he prepared to leave Monsey for a trip to Brooklyn to visit his parents in Borough Park, Lubavitch world headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway and the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens.

Free of Otisville and surrounded by family members including some grandchildren that he had never met,  Rubashkin was dressed in a black jacket, pants and hat and a white shirt as he spoke about the importance of being “b’simcha” at all times.

Asked what message he would like to send to President Trump, Rubashkin said that he prays for Trump every day.

“G-d should bless him and the United States of America,” added Rubashkin.

Yossi Green Sings New Song After Release Of Rubashkin

A song written by Yossi Green in honor of Rubashkin and others in prison went viral.  Green explained to VIN News, that he had written the song several months ago at the request of the Munkatcher Rov who asked him to use the words ‘motzi asirim u’fode anavim.’

Green said that this was the 54th song he had written for the Munkatcher Rebbe who usually keeps the songs private.

“Last night, for some reason, by the eighth lecht of Chanukah he pulled out this song and they sang it for hours,” said Green, who released the song publicly tonight, with the permission of the Munkatcher Rebbe, in honor of Rubashkin’s release.

Family Killed in Brooklyn Fire Laid to Rest in Israel

Thousands of mourners attended a funeral in Israel for a woman and her three children killed in a house fire in Brooklyn started by a Hanukkah menorah.

The funeral was held in Holon, near Tel Aviv, where the mother, Aliza Azan, grew up. Her sons Moshe, 11 and Yitzah, 7, and a daughter, Henrietta, 3, also died in the early Monday morning blaze. Israel’s Sephardic chief rabbi, Yitzhak Yosef, spoke at the funeral.

New York fire and police officials confirmed that a menorah on the first floor of the 2 1/2-story house sparked the blaze at around 2:20 a.m. Monday.

The father, Yosi, three children and their cousin survived the fire, but were injured in the fast-moving blaze, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said at a news conference. Yosi Azan and his daughter Shalit, 16, and son Daniel, 15, remain in critical condition at Staten Island University Hospital. Two younger boys were treated for minor injuries.

The New York Post, citing a family friend, reported Tuesday night that Yosi Azan, who is credited with saving the injured children and reportedly attempted more than once to run into the burning home to save the rest of his family, remains unconscious in an induced coma and does not know about the death of four members of his family.

Aliza Azan came from a prominent family of Syrian Jews whose father was a well-known rabbi in the community. Several of her siblings, like her, had moved to the United States over the years. Yosi Azan is from a family of Moroccan Jews, most living in Bnei Brak.

Although the Holon cemetery is for residents of Israel, the country’s minister of  religious services reportedly made an “irregular request” to the director general of Greater Tel Aviv’s burial society to allow the family to be buried there, which was granted.

They sang it for no less than 10 minutes each and every night of Chanukah. Since then, the song has become known as The Chanukah song’.

Thousands at Funeral of Mother, 3 Children Killed in Fire

An entire community in Brooklyn is in mourning after a man tried “courageously” to save members of his family from a fast-moving fire that left his wife and three of their young children dead early Monday morning.

The seventh night of Chanukah was profoundly somber in Sheepshead Bay, where thousands of people said goodbye to 39-year-old Aliza Azan, 11-year-old Moshe Azan, 7-year-old Yitzah Azan and 3-year-old Henrietta Azan.

The community was similarly grief-stricken, surrounding the family’s car Monday evening. They walked alongside for as long as they could on its way to the airport ahead of their burials in Israel.

“This is a terrible tragedy for every single person. Every Jew, every New Yorker. There are no words,” neighbor Victor Shine said

Authorities say the deadly fire was started by a menorah as the family celebrated the Jewish festival of light, and hope it serves as reminder to be careful with lights and candles this holiday season.

U.S. stands Up for Israel Vetoes Jerusalem Resolution

U.S. vetoes U.N. Jerusalem resolution, designed to reverse Trump recognition - The United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council draft resolution Monday that was proposed by Egypt and called for the reversal of President Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The U.S. vetoed it in a 14-1 vote, which meant the resolution failed.

The vote was held in response to President Trump's announcement earlier this month that the U.S. recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

After the vote, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said the U.S. does not veto resolutions lightly and that this was her first veto -- that it stood for "American sovereignty" and its role in the Middle East peace process.

PM Netanyahu: Thank you, President Trump. Thank you, Ambassador Haley.

When I See an Elephant Fly...

A newborn elephant has had to be rescued by helicopter after he was abandoned by his mother in the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya

Footage shows the adorable baby elephant riding in the passenger seat, being held in the arms of one of the conservation workers.

The elephant was abandoned after being born prematurely, and therefore was too small to reach his mother

As the elephant needed to be transferred to an orphanage in the capital Nairobi, the quickest way to get there was by helicopter.

It was rescued by the Mara Elephant Project with the help of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Friends of the Mara, Kenya Wildlife Service and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

When You Expect a Full Milk Jug

Jewish Mother, 3 Young Children Killed In House Fire

Four members of one Jewish family, including three children, are dead after an overnight fire in Brooklyn.  Investigators are looking into the possibility that a menorah started the blaze.

Police responded to a call at 19 East 14th St. in Sheepshead Bay at about 2:15 a.m.  The bodies of the four victims were found by first responders.  They were a 40-year-old woman and three of her children, an 11-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl.

Five other victims were taken to area hospitals with varying injuries.   They include the dead woman's husband and their 16-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son.  Another of the injured was a relative of the victims.

Three of the victims were taken to Staten Island University Hospital in critical condition and the other two to Maimonides Hospital with minor injuries.

Fire officials told Fox 5 News that it appears that the fire started in the front of the house and not in the kitchen area which is in the back of the house.  They are looking into the possibility that a menorah, which is used by Jews to celebrate Hanukah, could have been the cause.

Man Takes Revenge on Package Thieves

A man in Washington created a genius device to catch pesky thieves who steal packages from front porches.

Jaireme Barrow, from Tacoma, Washington, was tired of people stealing his expensive Jeep parts and decided he 'wanted to even the playing field'

He created one of the earliest models trap - using 12-gauge shotgun blanks, fishing line, bricks, a wooden box-like, a small box, aluminum carrying vessel for the blanks, a small plate, and a cardbox box - and has filmed numerous wannabe thieves.

Numerous thieves can be seen being caught in the action, with one unfortunate soul even stumbling over himself trying to escape the popping.

In his video, the man can be seen walking up to the house to try to steal the package on Friday.

As he looks at the box, it explodes and he fumbles down the steps on the foggy day.

Another tries to take a box on December 1 at night only to be spooked so bad that he almost falls over the new gate that was put up in the last year.

In an earlier video from the year before, a woman can be heard screaming when she is frightened by the loud sudden noise. She runs back to the car that she came with.
