Reward Offered for Suspect in Stabbing of a Jew in CH

Detectives on Thursday released a photo of a man wanted in connection with a stabbing in Crown Heights, that is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

The 25-year-old victim was walking on Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when an attacker came up behind him and stabbed him in the back, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

The victim ran to a nearby store and called 911 after the stabbing. A medic who was just a few storefronts away heard the call on his radio and jumped in to help. The young man was taken to Kings County Hospital and is recovering from a collapsed lung, Boyce said.

Anyone with information about the attacker should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

The Anti-Defamation League is offering a$10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the attacker.

Couple Swept Away By Unexpected Beach Waves Survives

This elderly couple were lucky to be alive after they were swept out to sea when winds of 86mph created a 15ft swell while they were on the beach

They were rescued by a passer-by who plucked them to safety during a furious storm at the seaside.

The couple, were rushed to the hospital following their horrendous ordeal at the storm-ravaged Porsguen beach in Ploudalmézeau , Brittany, on Monday.

And a nail-biting video shows their dramatic struggle to survive.

The storm, known as Imogen in the UK, battered parts of France's Atlantic Coast with winds reaching speeds of 86mph. In this clip a Parisian tourist, Olivier Lou, is seen smoking a cigarette at the beach wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket while another unknown person films. Seconds later a pair of pensioners , aged 75 and 76, are seen walking towards the water before the waves thunder forward and propel the man out to sea.

As the woman lets out a blood curdling scream, Mr Lou attempts to rush into the water to save them from waves that measured as high as 15ft. He struggled to save the pair and mercifully they were then washed up closer to the beach before another good Samaritan called Eric Roudaut rushed into help.

The 42-year-old hero from Lannilis, in Finistere, intervened and plucked the three to safety - risking his own life in the process.

The retired couple have not been identified, but are known to be French.

There were no serious injuries, but local coastguards said all were ‘extremely lucky’ to avoid being dragged out further. There was also a danger that they would be knocked out by crashing into the rocks.

Fascinating Time Lapse Video Shows Bridge Building

An incredible bridge building machine known as 'The Iron Monster' extends a huge snaking structure across the Chinese countryside in a captivating video.

In an impressive feat of engineering the machine allows a giant concrete railway bridge to flow out from bustling city suburbs and into the wilderness.

Starting in a muddy quarry, it is seen crossing deep mountainous valleys as it connects the cities of Chengdu and Guizhou. An army of engineers work frantically around the machine, which has the technical name SL900/32, as it makes its way along the bridge.

A giant of mechanical engineering, the machine may seem complicated but it in fact works in a simple way. It picks up rafters or sections of concrete and holds them in place before installing them to span to the next bridge support, already standing.

The link is 1,376 km in length and was constructed to allow for the Chengdu to Guangzhou High-Speed Railway. Designed by the Shijiazhuang Railway Design Institute, the SLJ900 is often used to build aqueducts and rail bridges and was utilised for the construction of a link between Chongqing and Wanzhous, also in China.

Throughout the footage the mechanical colossus wheels itself into place with ease - which is considerably impressive considering it weighs 580 tonnes as well as spanning 300ft long and 24ft wide. It enjoys such fluid movement because of its 64 wheels, which are spread across four sections of 16. Each section can rotate 90 degrees which allows the entire machine to drive sideways. This can prove extremely efficient when building a structure such as the bridge seen in the video.

The high-speed railway bridge will probably not be the last to be built by the SL900/32, as each machine is capable of building 730 spans in its operating lifetime.

Man Survives Leopard Attack

Video has emerged that shows a leopard attacking a man after entering a school.

The incident occurred in Bangalore, India, where the eight-year-old male cat injured six people.

The leopard can be seen launching itself at a man as he attempts to escape by climbing over a fence. He then struggles to fend off the leopard with the animal biting his arm. The man was later treated for minor injuries.

The rescue effort lasted 10 hours before the animal was cornered and eventually tranquilized.

The BBC reported that the animal was then moved to a national park, while the six injured people have been treated for minor injuries. Fortunately no students were in the school at the time of the leopard’s arrival, with no classes being held over the weekend.

India’s leopard population is estimated to be between 12,000 and 14,000. Such incidents become more frequent as residential or urban areas expand into animal habitats.

Funeral Held For Jewish Victim Of NYC Crane Collapse

Mourners gathered at a synagogue on the Upper East Side on Sunday, to pay respects to the man who was killed when a crane came crashing down in TriBeCa on Friday February 5 2016. afternoon.

David Wichs, 38, was killed instantly as he walked along Worth Street. He was headed to his job, working as a financial trader on Wall Street,

The funeral for Wichs was held at the Congregation Kehilath Jerhurun on East 85th Street on Sunday morning.

“The pain right now is unbearable,” Rebecca Guttman, Wich’s widow said. “I want you to know that I will do my best to live for us both.”

Wichs, a gifted mathematician, was walking to his job as a financial trader on Wall Street when he was struck by the crane.

The collapse happened as the crew was lowering the crane due to high winds. A veteran operator was inside the control cab when it flipped upside down. The crew was trying to lower the arm into the safety position – an upside-down V – right over West Broadway.

Experts plan to study the structure, as well as the crane’s central computer, with hopes of figuring out what went wrong. Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to announce safety improvements to crane operations, in the wake of the crash.

100,000 Travelers Stranded at Chinese Train Station

Chinese holidays are known for causing massive traffic jams, like the one that forced 50 lanes of traffic to merge into fewer than 20 or the 10-day jam in 2010 that spawned its own micro economy. But if you think that public transportation is the logical way to solve the problem of getting millions of holiday travelers home, in this case, you’d be wrong.

at least 100,000 travelers were stranded in a Chinese train station due to a bout of bad weather on Monday

176,000 passengers were expected to pass through Guangzhou’s main train station in a single day, as migrant workers continue to return home for the Chinese New Year holiday on February 8. But when snow and ice delayed dozens of trains, the station essentially shut down, leaving hordes of travelers out of luck.

The BBC reports that officials have deployed approximately 5,000 police officers to maintain order. But jams continue to plague other train stations, like the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, which South China Morning Post’s Mimi Lau reports is packed with 30,000 people waiting on more than 50 train delays.

Chinese New Year travel is so common that it has its own term—chunyun, or spring migration. It’s been called the world’s largest human migration and is fueled by the country’s enormous number of migrant workers. According to CCTV, China’s state television channel, at least 20 percent of the country’s population is made up of workers who migrate to urban areas to work.

China’s premier recently called for new ways to integrate the country’s nearly 280 million migrant workers into urban areas, to give them better access to public services.

Hide And Seek From a Toddler’s Perspective

Extreme sport enthusiasts use GoPro cameras to capture awe-inspiring footage of themselves bungee jumping, white water rafting and free running.

But Dan Iverson, has found a rather ingenious use for the device: to film an adorable game of hide-and-seek with his young son.

The toddler - who had the equipment strapped to his forehead - can be seen searching around the house for his parents as they watch on a live feed from their phones.

The short video begins with the child frantically running from room-to-room and peering in different closets. He then stands on the landing, seemingly pondering his next move. the little boy then storms into his playroom and looks around. The family dog Ollie then helps the youngster out by sitting outside the wardrobe his mother and father are hidden in.

The tot then swings open the door to finds his parents squatting down and in fits of giggles.

Eagles vs Drones: Dutch Police Use Birds to Catch Drones

For law enforcement officers around the world, partnering with animals is a time-honored tradition. Mounted police do their duty on horseback — and, in some countries, camel back. Specially trained dogs serve and protect by sniffing out drugs and explosives. But in the Netherlands, police officers are inaugurating a new species of animal partner — eagles — to take down illegal aerial drones.

In a statement released Jan. 31, the Dutch National Police Corps announced a new initiative using birds of prey to intercept unwanted drones. The program was developed and tested in partnership with Guard from Above (GFA), a Dutch company located in the Hague that specializes in training large, predatory birds to "hunt" and subdue robotic prey.

A video published by the National Police Corps of an indoor demonstration shows a handler releasing an eagle, which swoops toward a hovering quadcopter drone, snatching the machine out of the air and flying off with it into a corner of the training ring.
