The Making of "Oy Rebbe" 1994

Life for Lubavitcher Chasidim has never be the same since their Rebbe suffered a stroke in March of 1992.

Many of the songs composed during the bog-wars and color-wars at the 3 Lubavitcher overnight camps of the summers thereafter, had a common theme of yearning for their Rebbe, to return to his full health. In 1994, shorty after the passing of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, a group of young men released a recorded album titled "Oy Rebbe" which contained many of those songs. Below is a short clip from the making of album.

Ker A Velt קער א ווועלט הייינט

On the 12th of Tammuz 5744 (1984), the Lubavitcher Rebbe delivered an emotional talk. The talk was delivered in Yiddish; yet, even if you don't understand the language, the raw pain and frustration expressed transcend the language barrier. The following is a free translation of excerpts of this talk:

The Gaon of Ragachov writes that the destruction of the Holy Temple is an ongoing event. Not a onetime event that happened more than 1,900 years ago, but something that continues to happen every day. This assertion, the Gaon explains, has its source in the Jerusalem Talmud, where it is stated: "Any generation that the Temple was not rebuilt in its days, it is considered as if that generation destroyed it."

Simply put, this means that though more than 1,900 years have passed since the Temple's destruction, still, since today – Thursday of the week when we read the Torah portion of Pinchas – the Temple was not built, it is considered as if the Temple was destroyed today.

And since Jews screamed ad mosai ["how long will this exile last?"] yesterday, and they screamed ad mosai the day before yesterday, and they screamed ad mosai all the days before that, and yet, today the Temple was destroyed, it is obvious how much screaming of ad mosai there must be today!

Imagine the scene: The Holy Temple is being burned down. Standing nearby is a Jew – an ordinarily emotionless Jew, a completely stonehearted Jew – witnessing the destruction as it takes place. Without question, [in his effort to prevent the destruction from continuing,] he would "overturn worlds"!

Says our Torah—the Torah of Truth, the Torah that provides guidance for life: "Overturn worlds." TODAY!

Local SF TV Pranked on Flight 214 Pilot Names

KTVU Channel 2, a Fox affiliate in the San Francisco Bay Area, has issued an apology on Friday after an on-air blunder by an anchorwoman that involved fake names of Asiana flight 214 pilots. "We made several mistakes when we received this information," KTVU's apology on its website read. "KTVU accepts full responsibility for this mistake."

The National Transportation Safety Board has also apologized, saying a summer intern erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew.

An Asiana statement said it’s mulling legal measures against both KTVU-TV and the NTSB because the report “badly damaged” the reputation of the airline and its pilots. It didn’t say what legal measures it was considering. Neither the station nor the NTSB commented on where the names originated.

Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crashed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6, killing three and injuring dozens.

Mourning with Inspiration

On Tisha B'Av, the Jewish people mourn the destruction of the Holy Temple. Seated on the floor as mourners, the adults in the synagogue recite the traditional kinnot dirges. But is the goal simply the continuation of the mourning, for the sake of mourning? The children have a different idea of what needs to be done...
