Lubavitcher Rebbe - Celebrating Potential "Tu B'Shevat"

On Tu B'Shevat, the 15th of Shevat, we celebrate the New Year for Trees. It falls in the middle of the winter, when the sap is just beginning to flow. If the fruit is not yet growing, why do we celebrate the occasion by eating fruit? By enjoying fruit on Tu B'Shevat, we celebrate the potential within the tree. We also commit ourselves to bring out this potential by nurturing the tree through the spring and summer, until it brings its fruit. The human being is compared to a tree. We must recognize the wonderful potential within every person and every event, and we must commit ourselves to bringing out that potential.

Beit Shemesh Extremist Speaks Out On Israeli TV

In an Exclusive interview that appeared on Israeli television show Hamakor Beit Shemesh extremist Moshe Friedman offered his views on the recent controversy that has thrust this city of 80,000 into the headlines.
Friedman, who was just recently released from prison to house arrest after being arrested on a number of charges including common assault, assaulting a public servant, obstructing a police officer and spitting at a reporter, will be facing trial in a few weeks.

“From age three and up both girls and women are obligated to dress modestly,” explained the twenty seven year old father of two. Friedman was known to stand outside the Orot Banot school daily, shouting ‘Gevald!’ as mothers would bring their daughters to the school, which had become a symbol of the religious conflict in Beit Shemesh.

While Friedman admits that he would never want anyone screaming at his daughter, he blames the clientele at Orot Banot for the controversy, saying that it is clear that the only reason they are situated in the midst of a Chareidi area is to disrupt the neighbors and cause conflict. While Friedman was in prison at the time the infamous demonstrations that featured people clad in Holocaust era yellow stars, he defended their actions and likened the current actions of the Israeli government to that of the Nazis.

“During the war people with beards were also singled out and treated in despicable ways, just as today, the authorities are clearly looking to torment those who live by the ways of the Torah,” said Friedman.

Friedman told Hamakor that he and fellow extremists just want to live quietly, according to their own values, in their neighborhood.

This is me failing to spell the word heron (HAIRLINE???????). The reason why I couldn't hear the word is because the speakers were facing the audience, not toward the spellers as it should be. Because of this I didn't get the word until after I had to find out the meaning. Note that I did ask for definition before the tangent. If I were paying attention to that I wouldn't have done this:P."

As a child growing up in Toronto Mendy sang on several albums, but despite his mother’s persistent urging, he had no interest in recording a solo album. As time and life went by, music became an integral part of his life and Mendy soon found himself composing song after song. He began working on an album several years ago, and after sitting shiva for his mother, Blima bas R’ Chaim a’h this past summer, Mendy realized it was time to fulfill his mother’s dream by finishing the album, which is dedicated in her memory.
