Belzer Rebbe's Historic Visit to Montreal
Article by YWN - The Belzer Rebbe's historic visit to Montreal began with the arrival to the Outremont section of Montreal on Tuesday, May 1, at about 5:30pm. Thousands of Chassidim traveled from all over the Tri-State area to be with the Rebbe along with the large Belzer Kehilla that lives in Montreal.
Since the Rebbe arrived, there was a massive Kabolas Ponim, Hachnosas Sefer Torah, Lag BaOmer fire and dancing, and of course the Shabbos tefillos and Tishen. There are approximately 500 Belzer families in Montreal. The first few days of the trip were for all Belzer Chassidim to participate. From Shabbos until Wednesday, the Rebbe spent with the Belzer Kehilla of Montreal. Visiting the Batei Midrashim, the Cheder, and the homes of the leading supporters and Askonim.
The Belzer Rebbitzen accompanied her husband on the trip, where she has been spending time with the women of the Kehillah.
The Rebbitzen is a very special woman, who has thousands of people flocking to her for words of Chizuk and inspiration. The Rebbitzen is a daughter of the late Viznizter Rebbe of Bnei Brak, and a sister to the two Viznitzer Rebbes (Rav Yisroel and Rav Mendel), as well as a sister to the wives of the Satmar Rebbe of Kiryas Yoel Rav Ahron, and the Skverer Rebbe.
The Rebbe and his family left Montreal on Wednesday, May 9, flying first to Belz, Ukraine, visiting there the Kevarim of the previous Belzer Rebbes, ahead of the wedding of his grandson.

New Tactic to Disperse Israeli Chariedi Demonstrators?
At a Lag Bomer bonfire celebration in Brooklyn, a New York City rat appeared and causes bit of havoc to the surrounding crowd.
After seeing this, one person remarked how this might be a great technique for the Israeli police when attempting to disperse Chareidi demonstrators, most recently and specifically from the Peleg group, when they block traffic and cause disruption in Israel.

"Nearly all Iran's Military Installations in Syria Destroyed"
Israel's unprecedented Thursday counter-strike on Iranian infrastructure in Syria, following the Islamic Republic's own brazen rocket attack on Israeli military positions, brought the war-making capabilities of both Middle Eastern countries into stark relief as already simmering tensions begin to reach a boil.
The pre-dawn barrage flattened Iranian military compounds, intelligence facilities and munition warehouses in Syrian territory, Israel said, describing the assault as the nation's largest air operation in years. It came after Iran fired around 20 missiles toward the Israeli military stationed in the volatile Golan Heights region, in what reportedly is the first time Iran has attacked Israel from Syria.
"We don't want an escalation, but won't let anyone attack us or build an infrastructure to attack us in the future," Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Thursday, calling it “a new phase” in their longtime rivalry.
If the tensions between Jerusalem and Tehran lead to even greater armed conflict, however, Israel is ready to go toe-to-toe with Iran.
Statistics from GlobalFirepower.com, which uses data to compare the military strength of the world’s armies, show that Iran’s active duty personnel significantly outnumber Israel’s, but Israel – with a larger... Click Here for full article.
Uneasy calm in Golan Heights following Israeli operation. Benjamin Hall reports for Fox News from Jerusalem.
Israel Defense Forces released a video Thursday of an Israeli strike taking out a Syrian air defense battery. The strike occurred during Israel's retaliatory attack early Thursday morning in response to rocket fire from Syria earlier that day, according to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.
The video appears to be filmed from a camera loaded on the Israeli rocket. The rocket flies down toward the Syrian SA22, a combined short to medium range surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery battery, eventually cutting out when it seems to hit the target.
During the operation by the Israel Air Force on Thursday morning, Israeli jets were met with heavy anti-aircraft fire from the Syrian regime and in return, destroyed a total of five such air defense batteries.

Chocolate Shortage in Poland
Poland is no land of chocolate, but motorists Wednesday encountered a stretch of chocolate-covered highway after a tanker truck overturned in the early morning.
The vehicle, which was carrying about 12 tons of chocolate, came to rest across the median barrier, spilling its sweet fillings across six lanes of the A2 motorway and blocking traffic in both directions between the towns of Wrzesnia and Slupca in Western Poland,
according to the Associated Press and AFP. The driver was taken to a hospital with a broken arm, but no one else was injured, TVN24 reported. It is not immediately clear what caused the truck to overturn. Video by local media showed a loader scooping up some of the brown goo. The liquid chocolate began to harden, which made cleaning up more difficult, local authorities said. “The cooling chocolate is worse than snow,” Senior Brig. Bogdan Kowalski of Slupca’s fire brigade said, according to the Associated Press.
He added that before the highway was closed, some drivers, who decided that a pool of chocolate was no impediment to their travels, spread the chocolate for several kilometers. Removing the truck and chocolate would take a few hours, Marlena Kukawka, Slupca’s police spokeswoman, told the New York Times, adding that this part of the A2 rarely has accidents. She told TVN24 that the cleanup crew, which was using hot water to melt and wash away the chocolate, was in good spirits, according to NPR.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen so many smiles on the faces of emergency rescue folks and police officers at the scene of an accident,” Kukawka said. A local journalist was less fortunate. TVN24 reported that one of its reporters at the scene was walking along the edge of the shoulder to avoid the chocolate only to slip and fall into a ditch, where there was, indeed, more chocolate.

President Trump Welcome the Three American Returnees
Donald Trump welcomed three Americans imprisoned in North Korea back to the U.S. in the wee hours of Thursday morning, and said words most observers thought no American president would ever utter: 'We want to thank Kim Jong Un.'
The president and his wife Melania arrived at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington at 2:00 a.m. to greet Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak Song and Tony Kim, and called them 'incredible people.'
In extraordinary scenes, Trump and the first lady clapped and cheered as the men walked down the steps with their arms in the air and giving triumphant 'V' signs signifying both peace and victory.
Their first steps back on American soil came hours earlier, in Alaska, when the plane carrying them home stopped to refuel.
On the tarmac in suburban Maryland, Trump said: 'These are great people. Frankly, we didn't think this was going to happen, but it did. It was important to get these people out. This is a special night for these three really great people.'
Trump also thanked Kim Jong-un for freeing 'the folks early.' calling it 'a wonderful thing' and adding he believes the North Korean despot 'really wants to do something' and bring the hermit kingdom 'into the real world.'
He said: 'We're starting off on a new footing. I really think we have a very good chance of doing something very meaningful, and if anybody would've said that five years ago, 10 years ago, even a year ago, you would've said, 'That's not possible.'
'My proudest achievement will be when we denuclearize that entire [Korean] peninsula,' he added.

Commercial Plane Performing a Near-vertical Take-off
If you thought shooting up into the sky like a rocket was the preserve of fighter aircraft – and rockets – think again.
Remarkable footage has emerged of a commercial airline performing a near-vertical take-off – powering upwards at an eye-popping angle within a moment of leaving the ground.
The aircraft in question was an A350-900XWB – fitted with Rolls-Royce engines - and its aerobatics were captured at the Innovation and Leadership in Aerospace (ILA) convention in Berlin in April.
The plane performing the stunt is used for air shows, relief flight and testing cabin innovations, it has a regular cabin filled with seats.
Airbus describes the A350-900 as ‘state-of-the-art’.
It says: ‘This jetliner accommodates 325 passengers in a standard three-class configuration and its state-of-the-art comfort and amenities ensure that everyone on-board enjoys a pleasant flight.

Trump Announces Withdraw From Iran Nuclear Deal
President Trump on Tuesday announced the decision to "withdraw" from the Iran nuclear deal, keeping a longtime campaign promise, claiming there is evidence Iran is not in compliance with the deal and the agreement will allow the Iranian regime to amass nuclear weapons.
"In just a short period of time, the world's leading state sponsor of terror will be on the cusp of acquiring the world's most dangerous weapons," Mr. Trump said from the White House's Diplomatic Room. "Therefore, I am announcing today that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal."
That means the U.S. will not renew sanctions waiver and will no longer participate in the Iran nuclear deal, The sanctions the U.S. waived because of the accord will be reinstated.
According to the U.S. Treasury, its Office of Foreign Assets control is taking action immediately to implement Mr. Trump's decision. Sanctions will have 90-day and 180-day wind-down periods, at the end of which relevant, previous sanctions will come back in place.
U.S. intelligence has verified that the deal has been an effective arms control deal that has kept Iran's nuclear program frozen for three years, Trump is delivering on another campaign promise, but one which is arguably far more consequential than any other deal he's torn up.
The United Kingdom, France and Germany were all unable to persuade the Trump administration to broker a side deal that would satisfy the U.S. enough to keep it a party to the 2015 agreement. Shortly before the president was to announce his decision, the leaders of those countries, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were on a call to discuss their response to Mr. Trump's announcement, CBS News; Kylie Atwood reports, citing European diplomatic sources.
On Tuesday, Mr. Trump insisted America would not be held "hostage" by such a deal.
"America will not be held hostage to nuclear blackmail," the president said. "We will not allow American cities to be threatened with destruction and we will not allow a regime that chants 'death to America' to gain access to the most deadly weapons on Earth."
Mr. Trump spent much of the 2016 campaign and early days of his presidency slamming the 2015 nuclear pact as "a mess" and "badly negotiated." That sentiment did well with his supporters.

Collisions Between Cyclists, Pedestrians Growing Concern
It happened in a matter of seconds: A school bus pulled right up to the corner of South 5th Street and Hooper Street in Williamsburg; A 6-year-old came running around the front of a bus.
Then, a bicyclist came flying down the street, slamming into the child and sending her straight onto the pavement.
Moments later, police said the cyclist just took off.
“I was inside here but I saw him,” said Hangy Falkowitz, mother of the girl who suffered a nose injury, cuts and bruises from the impact with the cyclist. “It’s very sad that the bicyclists are so wild and they don’t obey the rules or the stop signs and they just pass a stop sign and hit a child.”
“This is unheard of,” said Williamsburg resident Isaac Abraham to CBS2’s Marc Liverman. “You knock off a child, the child was lucky to get up, knowing where to go, ring the bell and lucky somebody was there to open the door for her.”
Abraham said he’s heard of three collisions where bicyclists slammed into pedestrians, some pushing strollers.
New York City police have issued more than 500 red light summonses to bicyclists in 2018 alone.
But Abraham says it’s just not enough. He wants to see more bicycle rule enforcement before someone else is hit.
“If you’re going to bike on a steady way, some type of registration responsibility that if, God forbid, you injure somebody that you cannot just walk away from it,” he said.
Police haven’t released a description of that cyclist, but tell CBS2 he could be charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Fancy Footwork Helps Nab Armed Suspect
Police in Ohio's capital city say fancy footwork outside a library tripped up an armed suspect's efforts to flee from police.
A video shared by police shows a man, identified only as "Bill," sticking out his leg and sending a man with a handgun tucked in his waistband tumbling to the ground. The incident happened April 3 outside a library in West Columbus.
“(The suspect) was coming my way so I got in his way,” Bill said in the video. “I heard him hit (the ground) and the gun went sliding out. He went one way and the gun went another.”
Bill was alerted by police sirens that day while waiting for his granddaughter outside the library.
Police say Bill's intervention may have saved the suspect's life, allowing officers to catch up and arrest him without shots being fired. The suspect's handgun, loaded with 29 rounds in a magazine, fell to the ground and was recovered by police.
The man was arrested. It's unclear what prompted officers to begin chasing him.
