Jewish Pilot Hailed Hero Following Plane Crash

A Spring Valley pilot is recovering in the hospital Friday after he crash landed a Coast Guard Auxiliary plane in Cresskill, New Jersey.

Yakov Rosenberg, a Monsey resident, says he was in the Cessna-172 when the craft lost power Thursday during a routine flight.

Rosenberg, who is known by friends as "Jack," says he was able to guide the plane away from houses and people on the ground before crashing into a cluster of trees.

"Jack is one of the most dedicated people out there that a person can have as a family member, as a friend and as a community volunteer," says friend and neighbor Yossi Gestetner.

Rosenberg and fellow Coast Guard Auxiliary member Erik Pearson were seriously hurt in the crash. Both are expected to survive.

Officials say no one on the ground was injured.

Rosenberg says he is an active Chaverim, an emergency services agency in the Orthodox Jewish community. He is trained to fly search-and-rescue missions and flew in food and supplies to roughly 140 people stranded at a Vermont hotel in the wake of Hurricane Irene in 2012.

The National Transportation Safety Board, the Coast Guard and the FAA are all investigating the crash.

IDF Rescue 5 American Boys From Arab Lynch Mob

Five American Yeshiva Boys mistakenly entered the Arab-controlled section of Hevron Thursday September 3 2015. where they were attacked by a mob that threw firebombs and rocks at them, the IDF and police spokesman said.

A local Arab took them into his home, where they awaited rescue by the IDF.

Forces from the Hevron District police and Judea and Samaria police, assisted by an IDF force, entered the neighborhood and rescued them. Two of the men are in moderate to light condition. They have been taken to receive medical attention.

Photos from the scene show a pair of tefillin lying on the road, belonging to one of the victims who escaped during the attack. According to reports from emergency service ZAKA in Hevron / Kiryat Arba, a firebomb was hurled at their vehicle, which went up in flames.

A report from the Hatzala emergency service of Judea and Samaria said that one of them is bleeding from the face.

The latest reports said that the IDF has reached the men and that they are being taken to Israeli-controlled territory. They have been alternately described as haredi and as yeshiva students. Large IDF forces are combing the area where the attack took place and investigating the event.

Rescue by the IDF

A survivor of the mob attack on five American Jews recounted the harrowing ordeal Thursday evening. "They were screaming 'Jew, Jew, Jew," he said. The Jews wanted to pray at the Cave of Machpela but the satellite navigation system landed them in an area controlled by Arabs.

A Palestinian resident of the neighborhood helped rescue them and sheltered them in his apartment. Fayez Abu Hamdiyeh, who lives in the neighborhood, said he let five Jewish “settlers” into his house after he noticed they were being chased by Palestinian youths. He said the “settlers” told him that they had entered the neighborhood with their car before being pelted with stones. Abu Hamdiyeh said he used the mobile phone of one of the students to phone the police and ask for help.

Jewish Man Donates Liver To a Stranger

A Madison Wisconsin man is recovering after a historical surgery in the state of New York that saved a woman's life.

Yitzchok Pinkesz was one of the first in New York to donate part of his liver to a complete stranger, known as an altruistic donation. The procedure comes with a .2 percent chance of death. When asked why he would undergo such a surgery for someone he's never met, Pinkesz said it just makes sense.

"We're talking about a person that has 4 children, she's loved by her husband, loved by her children," he says. "If your liver is dying, there's no way out of it. You're going to die. If you could avoid that for very little risk, there would be no reason not to."

Yitzchok underwent the surgery in July. Just one month later, he's recovered well enough to return to work and play with his kids.

Looking back, he says he would do it again in a heartbeat.

"If you saw somebody drowning, and you need to jump in - and you're not the best swimmer, but you think you could get out there and save him - you would do it," he says.

Man Saves His Family & His Ribs From Fire

When the apartment next to his burst into flames, this man acted fast to save his kids, and then his ribs.

According to KMPH, when a fire broke out 3 a.m. Tuesday, a mother and her 6-year-old son escaped through the back window. They were taken to the hospital after breathing in smoke.

Robert Wright, a neighbor, recounted the moment he rescued his family and then rescued what he was cooking.

Wright explained he got hungry late at night and decided to make ribs and hot links: “I take pride in what I do, man. It’s like 3 o’clock in the morning. I was hungry man. I was like, ‘Put them ribs on there, man.’ Some hot links and stuff, man, we got it going and stuff.”

“First thing I got my kids, then I thought about my ribs, like I don’t want to let my ribs burn,” Wright told KMPH.

When asked if he suffered any injuries, Wright seemed to be light-hearted about inhaling smoke.

“I don’t have any injuries – except for the smoke in my lungs, but I already got smoke in my lungs, so I’m alright,” Wright said.

The video uploaded to YouTube by KMPH has since amassed nearly half a million views as of Thursday.

Man Catches Fish Using Drone

It may not have been the biggest fish in the pond, but a Kansas farmer came up with a creative way to catch it.

A Kansas farmer appeared to make fishing history recently by catching a fish with nothing but the help of his trusty drone.  Derek Klingenberg piloted his DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter armed with a fishing line and a camera—toward a lake, and promptly caught a fish with no rod. His elation is undeniable, and Klingenberg then demonstrated he might be the most tech-savvy farmer in the Midwest by posting his catch on Snapchat.

Klingenberg is also known for serenading cows playing with a trombone

Little Boy and Gorilla Play Peek-a-Boo at the Zoo

One may be a human, the other may be a gorilla, but that didn't stop a pair of youngsters from enjoying a game of peek-a-boo at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio.

Sherry Chute posted the video to YouTube of her two-year-old son, Isaiah, meeting a two-year-old gorilla named Kamoli last week.

Separated by a thick glass barrier, the toddlers enjoyed an adorable, lively game of peek-a-boo.

"It was a really fun interaction. Isaiah is just like that. Anyone who knows him knows that he's super playful," Chute told The Columbus Dispatch.

She added that as the exhausted play pals parted ways, Isaiah said, "Bye, gorilla."

"It was so fun to see him interact with the animals and know what they were. He was just so truly blissful in that moment, it melted his mommy's heart."

Navy Seals Russian Style

Russia put together a huge military spectacle to celebrate the 70th V-Day, the Anniversary of defeating the Nazis in World War II.

While most of the parade took place outdoors, the best parts were swimming in water tanks. The Russian Military is training Baihal Seals as Russian Military. From saluting commanders, to bearing weapons these seals are (sort of) ready.

If that doesn’t sound fearsome or impressive to you, then tell Putin.

Ohr Olam - Mishnah Berurah - Promotional Video

Whether it is baalei teshuva, yeshiva graduates or simply those seeking to cover as much ground in as little time as possible, there is a tremendous thirst for advanced Torah texts in the English language. To meet this ever-increasing demand, Rabbi Asher Zelig Eisenberg, of blessed memory, founded the Ohr Olam Institute. His primary goal was to bring about Zikui HaRabbim by encouraging the learning of contemporary Jewish Law and other texts and making them available to Jews of all streams of life.

The Ohr Olam Institute is an innovative new Torah project committed to disseminating the eternal wisdom of the Torah classics to the English speaking public to ensure that no Jew is estranged from Torah. Our goal is to bring the timeless words of our heritage into the Twenty-First Century in a language that everyone can understand without losing the depth or passion of the original Hebrew.

How 124 MPH Crash Looks Like

Nowadays all sorts of agencies are tasked with developing anti-speeding campaigns. However, sometimes it’s best to simply use the power of example.

The footage, which comes from an European organization that handles safety matters, brings us some of the most brutal accident testing moments we’ve seen in quite a while.

The velocity many drivers dream about before getting their licenses, namely 200 km/h (124 mph), was the one used as a reference point here. You’ll get to see cars traveling at this speed crashing into stationary vehicles. This is also a good occasion to compare frontal and rear impacts

In fact “crashing into” doesn’t quite cut it here. It’s more like “obliterating”. And to make matters worse, concrete barriers are also used.

Some might say that such videos are pointless, since that kind of speed would destroy any car and kill the humans inside it, regardless of the protection systems available. However, as we said, the point is to determine drivers not to reach this kind of speeds on restricted public roads.

Drone Spots Man Chilling Above 200ft Turbine

It's summer and the beaches are packed - so this guy got some private sunbathing time sky high

A drone pilot taking a look at a giant wind turbine was startled to find a man sunbathing on the top of it. Kevin Miller flew the drone all the way up the 200 foot turbine to find the mystery man flat on his back catching some rays.

Woken from his nap by the noise of the drone, he sits up, gives a wave, and looks rather nonplussed as the drone moves in further for a good look.
