Economy Minister and Bayit Yehudi chairman Naftali Bennett spoke at the Haaretz Israel Conference for Peace at the David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv, Tuesday, July 8, 2014.
Bennett was heckled, booed, called a murderer and allegedly hit in the back on his way out of the hall after the speech. According to Bennett’s office, when he finished addressing the crowd, a small group of hecklers followed him out, and one punched him in the back. He turned around, asked, “Who hit me?” and was hustled out of the room by guards. Haaretz responded to the incident by issuing a statement saying that Bennett “took advantage” of the “misconduct of one of the conference attendees who pushed him lightly, and claimed he was punched in order to create headlines and mislead the media.”
The conference, was later disrupted by air raid sirens sounding as the Iron Dome intercepted a rocket from Gaza aimed at Tel Aviv.

Mispalalim Return to Har Nof Synagogue
Hundreds gathered at the "Kehillas Bnei Torah" synagogue in Jerusalem's Har Nof neighborhood for an emotional mass-prayer Thursday morning, just two days after a deadly terrorist attack there killed five people and left several others seriously injured.
The prayers were held in honor of Yom Kippur Katan a monthly "mini day of atonement" observed by many Orthodox Jews before the start of each new Hebrew calendar month. The prayers were held in the main synagogue hall, but the hundreds of people who arrived at the synagogue in a show of solidarity spilled out into the downstairs synagogue where the brutal attack itself took place.
In addition, those in attendance were request to observe a one-day fast - an act associated with repentance, introspection and spiritual healing. Those who were unable to fast were asked to make a donation to charity instead.
Four worshipers and a police officer were killed Tuesday morning when a pair of Palestinian terrorists stormed the synagogue armed with meat-cleavers and a pistol, before being shot dead in an exchange with police. Many of the wounded were left with horrific injuries, including severe facial and head wounds. The attack on a place of worship, in such a brutal and bloody fashion, has sent shock waves throughout Israel and drawn calls for tougher action against Arab and Islamist extremists.

Relentless Storm Pummeling 6 Feet of Snow In Western NY
A ferocious storm dumped massive piles of snow on parts of upstate New York, trapping residents in their homes and stranding motorists on roadways, as temperatures in all 50 states fell to freezing or below.
Even hardened Buffalo residents were caught off-guard Tuesday as more than 6 feet fell in parts of the city. Authorities said snow totals by Wednesday afternoon could top 8 feet in the hardest-hit areas south of Buffalo, with another storm expected on its heels. The cold weather enveloping the entire country Tuesday led to record-low temperatures more familiar to January than November. Racing winds and icy roads caused accidents, school closings and delays in municipal operations from the Midwest to the South, even where snowfall was low or mercifully absent.
Almost 76 inches of snow fell in the suburbs in southern Buffalo, according to The National Weather Service. This total was a record over a 24-hour period for anywhere in the U.S. on record. It prompted New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to declare a state of emergency in 10 counties.

Orthodox Jewish Man Beaten at Brooklyn Subway Station
The victim says he was beaten repeatedly with two different umbrellas and punched after 3 young men approached him from behind on a subway platform in Williamsburg.
What happened next was perhaps even more painful for 53-year-old Chaim, an Israeli tourist who tells us that he then got an earful of anti-Semitism."He spit at me," Chaim said. "He start to say, 'dirty Jew, bloody Jew.' All these things."Chaim wasn't seriously injured, but he says the beating was bad enough to snap his umbrella and the umbrella of his attackers."He start to curse me, and a piece of the umbrella became like a knife," Chaim said. He says he was quick enough to shove the sharpest part of it off the platform and onto the tracks.
Two other men then tried to help Chaim, including one elderly man who got punched and an MTA worker, just arriving for a 4:00 p.m. shift on the M and J lines at Marcy Avenue."He tried to speak to them and they tried to attack him, too," Chaim said. The MTA worker then called 9-1-1, but the suspects got away.
The indecent is being investigated by the New York Police Department's Hate Crime Task Force.

The four victims were Rabbi Moshe Twersky, hy"d, 'Rosh Kollel' for the 'Torat Moshe' yeshiva; Rabbi Kalman Levine, hy"d; Aryeh Kupinsky, hy"d, and Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, hy"d.
Police revealed that all four victims were dual citizens, with three holding American citizenship, and the fourth British citizenship. He leaves behind a wife, five children and ten grandchildren.
Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach, a prominent head of the Lithuanian hareidi community, eulogized the rabbi saying "he was a great and holy man. He was so close to G-d in his holy life and was murdered in the middle of his prayer, with the tefilin (phyllacteries) on his head." Rabbi Twersky's funeral was to be held at 2 p.m. at the Torat Moshe yeshiva in Sanhedria.
The funeral services for Rabbi Levine, Mr. Kupinsky, and Mr. Goldberg began at 3 p.m. at the synagogue in which they were murdered, the Kehillat Bnai Torah Yeshiva Synagogue in Har Nof. Thousands showed up for the funeral of the three, including President Reuven Rivlin.

Kiryas Joel Proposes Creating New Village
Lawmakers in the Hasidic community of Kiryas Joel are now proposing to create a new village, tripling its current size.
Kiryas Joel Village Trustee Jacob Freund says the new plan would create the new village of Glilos Kiryas Joel and develop 1,140 acres surrounding Kiryas Joel. Freund says they will not need local or state approval to start their own village. "We don't want to take over," says Freund. "We are here to be in peace with our neighbors." Freund says the law states a community with 500 people is allowed to create its own village.
Emily Convers, who runs the anti-annexation group United Monroe, opposes the plan. Convers accuses the village of threatening its neighbors and vows to fight the new proposal.
Kiryas Joel released a statement urging homeowners to wait for the outcome of the state approval process.

The Unstealable Bike
Cycling is often the best way to get around a crowded city. But riding a bike through an urban area brings its own problems, not least of which is the threat of having your bicycle stolen by opportunistic thieves. A good lock is, therefore, essential. There are no shortage of locks available to buy, and innovative attempts to improve security, However, the best answer of all may be designing a bike which acts as its own lock.
The Yerka Project aims to do just that. Yerka uses its own frame as the lock, meaning it can be wrapped around a tree or lamp post... Even with its innovative locking frame, Yerka retains the style of a typical urban bike Yerka uses its own frame as the lock, meaning it can be wrapped around a tree or lamp post... The Yerka Project is the work of three engineering students from Chile who have figured out how to make the lock an integral part of the bike. The idea being that breaking the lock means breaking the bike, which even the most feeble-minded petty criminal should realize is an utterly pointless exercise.
Essentially the frame is also a lock. The down tube on the frame can be opened out to enable it to be positioned around a solid object such as a tree or a lamp post. The saddle, complete with the post it's attached to are then inserted through the open ends to complete the lock. Any attempt to steal the bike must, it is assumed, damage the frame in some way, leaving it unrideable. The whole process takes 20 seconds, which is comparable to many conventional locks.

Interview With PM Benjamin Netanyahu
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed support Sunday for the US fight against Islamic State militants, but cautioned against any softening toward Iran.
"We want them both to lose. The last thing we want is to have any one of them get weapons of mass destruction," Netanyahu said in an interview with CBS Face the Nation.
His comments came shortly after IS claimed the beheading of another Western hostage, US aid worker Peter Kassig, along with that of 18 men described as Syrian soldiers.
Netanyahu expressed support for US President Barack Obama's leadership of a coalition against IS and said "we're with all the American people who understand the savagery that we're all up against."
IS "has to be defeated and it can be defeated," he said.
But Netanyahu portrayed the situation as a "global conflict" against militant Islam, not just Sunni-based IS and Al-Qaeda but also Shiite Iran-backed Hezbollah.
"We want them both to lose," he said, insisting: "Iran is not your ally. Iran is not your friend. Iran is your enemy."
The United States and other Western powers have been negotiating with Iran to limit its nuclear program, with a November 24 deadline for a deal fast approaching.
Netanyahu reiterated Israel's opposition to any agreement that leaves Iran with a residual capacity to enrich uranium, and urged tougher sanctions on Tehran as an alternative to a deal.

126 Years Old House Moves In Chicago
Historic 126-year-old Chicago mansion weighing 1,000 tons moved 600-feet across the block over the course of two days
It has stood on Chicago's historic South Prairie Avenue since 1888, but on Tuesday the Harriet Rees Mansion began a two-day trek just one block north, or 600 feet away. Making way for a new university basketball arena, the mansion was moved atop a huge array of automated dollies, crawling and inching at one-half-foot per second on 250 wheels. Weighing more than 1,000 tons, the three-story brick house is 95-feet long, 25-feet wide and 72-feet wide and one of the last residential remnants of the Gilded Age in the Windy City.
