Huge Lightning Blast Misses Man by Seconds
A motorist narrowly escaped death after a lightning bolt sent part of a tree hurtling towards the spot he was stood just five seconds earlier.
Bernard Williams, 55, from Pudsey, West Yorkshire, had just left his car to run into his house during a thunderstorm when a bolt of lightning sent a 10ft-long piece of wood hurtling across the road. It smashed the car's back window - where he had been stood moments before - and ended up in an alleyway next to his house after taking a tail light with it.
CCTV footage taken on the property's security camera shows Mr Williams arriving back home in torrential rain and then grabbing his gym bag before running towards the front door of the house. But just four seconds after leaving the car there is a flash and lightning hits the tree and blows it apart. Jagged pieces of wood can be seen flying across the road hitting the car and neighbouring houses. His wife, Alison, 43, watched the scene unfold and saw how close he came to being killed. She said: 'If he had been stood at the car seconds later he would almost certainly have been killed or maimed.'

Cops Say Religion Not Motive In Jewish Student Attack
A Michigan State University student’s Jewish religion was not a factor in an assault at an off-campus party, police said Wednesday, a day after the 19-year-old man claimed he was popped in the jaw as a victim of “religious hatred.”
There is no dispute that Zach Tennen was seriously injured early Sunday. But witnesses interviewed by detectives have not confirmed Tennen’s account that he was attacked after revealing he’s Jewish, East Lansing police Capt. Jeff Murphy said. Police also have no evidence that Tennen’s mouth was stapled as he maintains, Murphy said.
“There’s a lot more to it than what is on the surface,” he told The Associated Press. “This came out early as being reported as a hate crime. It now appears after we’ve talked to many people who were at this party — and most importantly two witnesses who saw the actual assault — it doesn’t appear that religion was the reason he was assaulted,” Murphy said.
Tennen, who is from Franklin in suburban Detroit, is recovering from jaw surgery. His father, Bruce Tennen, said the police department’s latest “assertions sicken us.”

Jewish Boy Continues to Make Headlines on National TV
A Fourteen year old Frum boy has made it to the final 24 of a national talent competition which consists of tens of millions of television viewers, nationwide. Out of thousands of contestants who auditioned for the competition, Edon Pinchot from Chicago, IL, is one out of the final 24 who advanced to the Semifinals and performed live on Television last night.
On Wednesday night the show will announce whether Edon received enough votes to advance to the grand final, where the final 6 contestants will compete for the win of the competition and receive a $1,000,000 prize.

Lipa Schmeltzer released a music video that uses one of his songs to promote solidarity among Jews worldwide, no matter what their background or religious leanings.
The video features the dance song Mizrach, one of the tracks from Lipa's recent Leap of Faith album and shows Lipa singing and dancing with a group of Israeli soldiers, members of the noted Netzah Yehuda Battalion of the Nahal Haredi. Part of the Kfir Brigade of the Israeli Defense forces, Netzah Yehuda was created to give religious Israeli soldiers the opportunity to serve in the army while maintaining a strict adherence to their religious convictions.
With the expiration of the Tal Law one month ago, the Israeli army has been the subject of much media scrutiny as yeshiva students who were previously exempted from military service are now facing the possibility of joining their fellow countrymen in the army. Thousands of Israeli yeshiva students are expecting to receive draft notices in the upcoming future, further widening the division between Israel's secular and ultra-Orthodox communities.
With the release of the new video which clocks in at just under five minutes long, Lipa hopes to help bridge the gap between the two groups, with the clear message of unity amongst all Jews expressed in the lyrics of the song.
