In what was an extremely controversial move, the staff of orthodox boxer Yuri Foreman decided to play a recording of the Lubavitcher Rebbe at a Farbrenging singing the Baal Hatanyas song "Tzamah Lecha Nafshi" as Yuri Foreman walked to the boxing ring in Yankee stadium last Motzei Shabbos.
From the perspective of the Yuri and some of his staff; they probably thought it wasn't controversial at all, understandably so.

Lipa Schmeltzer has a track on his new album called "Ich Hub Gechapt" which refers to all the popular times when the (mostly chasseidisher) teachers (AKA Rebbis) would smack their little defenseless students. The time everyone feared most in cheder was during the difficult Chumash weeks, such as Vaani in Parshas Vayechi, the other Birchas Ha"Shvotim", Akdomos before Shevuos, the Shira in Barshas Beshalach, Parshas Mishpotim and a few others.
Lipa also includes in that song the Shira in Hazinu. I don't know how they had Hazinu in Cheder when usually that Parsha falls out when there isn't much Yeshiva. ( I guess Lipa ans Yossi Green's Cheider was different.)
As Lipa and Green put it so eloquently, if you're wondering if they still hit today in Cheder the answer is "Svent zich vi" it depends where!

Former Chief Sephardi Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu passed away on Monday afternoon at Jerusalem’s Sha’arei Tzedek hospital, after a prolonged hospitalization. He was 81 years old.
Eliyahu was born and raised in Jerusalem, and served as chief rabbi between the years 1983-1993.
He was considered one of the spiritual leaders of religious Zionism, and remained an influential voice among the national religious after stepping down.

WATERLOO --- Former Agriprocessors executive Sholom Rubashkin has been acquitted of allowing minors to work at the Postville slaughterhouse. The jury indicated they had reached a verdict shortly before 1 p.m. Monday. Jurors acquitted him of all 67 counts of child labor violations.
Rubashkin is awaiting sentencing on federal bank fraud charges in connection with loans Agriprocessors received. Federal immigration charges stemming from the May 2008 raid at the plant were dropped earlier.
State labor officials began investigating information that minors worked at the plant in the months before the May 2008 immigration raid.

Yaakov Shwekey thrilled an audience of 4000 people in Efrat. He honored 100 soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces and a special group of soldiers from the Israel's Navy.
The highlight of the evening was when Shwekey invited a group of the 100 soldiers present, some from the navy commando unit that boarded the flotilla and all of whom had been treated to the evening by the local and regional authority, up on stage to join him. They sang “If I forget thee, O Jerusalem” together to Shwekey’s well known melody, swaying along with the audience. Towards the end, one of the soldiers placed his beret on Shwekey’s head and the singer was visibly moved.
