6-Year-Old Prodigy is Pilot for a Day

Etihad Airways let a 6-year-old fly one of its planes. the child prodigy Adam Mohammad Amer, met an Etihad crew several months ago where he impressed pilots with his understanding of how planes fly. At the time, the crew invited him in to check out the cockpit and shot a video of the experience that went viral.

Weeks later the airline gave him a shot at piloting An Airbus A380, the world’s largest airplane, himself – sort of. The experience actually took place inside one of the airline’s flight simulators. Amer was outfitted with a child-sized version of a pilot’s uniform and given the opportunity to try and fly the virtual plane.

Turns out, he was pretty successful. He was able to take off and land successfully, with just one dicey moment where the nose of the plane was posting a bit too low. Not bad for a 6-year-old.

Police Defends Traffic Stop Of Expectant Jewish Couple

A Lakewood man rushing his expecting wife to the hospital passed through Howell, NJ

The result: a speeding ticket.

The delay made for a close call.

The baby entered the world shortly after the couple arrived at Monmouth Medical Center, the man said.

The couple, unnamed in a statement by the police, was heading to the medical center in Long Branch at the direction of the woman’s doctor shortly before midnight on Nov. 14. Howell Patrolman Anthony Marotta stopped the 2010 Toyota Sienna they were in on Squankum Road, Route 547.

The story was first reported by the Lakewood Scoop, which ran a redacted picture of the traffic ticket, an anonymous statement from the Lakewood man and a photo of a his wife's hospital bracelet that shows the time and date as 12:35 a.m. November 15.

The Howell police issued a statement based on the department’s internal review which included an inspection of the video footage from the vehicle and body cameras.

The exchange between Marotta and the couple is in dispute.

After being told by the woman’s doctor they needed to get to the hospital quickly once labor began, the man drove at a normal speed until hitting Squankum Road, he said.

“My wife told me she is starting to feel it is getting closer to birth,” he wrote in the statement. “I became quite frantic, so I automatically picked up speed, without realizing I was going way over the speed limit.”

Marotta pulled the Sienna over at 11:57 p.m. He asked for documents and the man told him his wife was in “advanced labor,” according to the Howell police statement. Marotta explained to the driver that he was going nearly 80 mph - ticketed for 78 mph - in a 50-mph zone. He returned to his patrol car.

“This exchange lasted about 40 seconds,” the police statement reads.

Marotta returned in six minutes. Police said all went well.

“Both the operator of the vehicle, his pregnant wife and the officer were calm, respectful and courteous to one another,” the statement reads.

The expecting husband had a different view.

Bus Arrives Right on Time

An Atlanta city bus arrived right on schedule for the perfect photobomb on Monday.

The Weather Channel had been live-streaming for 40 minutes in anticipation of the planned demolition of the Georgia Dome at on Monday morning, only to have a MARTA city bus pull up juuuust in time to block the money shot of the building collapsing.

Weather Channel editor James Crugnale watched in horror as the bus obscured just about the entire shot of the Georgia Dome, a 71,250-seat stadium that was once home to the Atlanta Falcons, the 1996 Olympics, two Super Bowls and a Final Four.

A crowd had gathered and a countdown began over the loudspeakers in anticipation of the 12-second collapse of the 25-year-old stadium. A thin tuft could be seen as the explosion began on the roof, and then the bus pulled up like something out of a comedy skit.

"No, bus get out of the way,'' Crugnale said. "Bus!"

Crugnale added in some expletives in exasperation as the bus rumbled away just as the drama ended. He had a good sense of humor about it afterward.

At least we know the buses in Atlanta are running right on schedule.

102 Year Old Holocaust Survivor Meets Discovered Nephew

Eliahu Pietruszka shuffled his 102-year-old body through the lobby of his retirement home toward a stranger he had never met and collapsed into him in a teary embrace. Then he kissed both cheeks of his visitor and in a frail, squeaky voice began blurting out greetings in Russian, a language he hadn't spoken in decades.

Only days earlier, the Holocaust survivor who fled Poland at the beginning of World War II and thought his entire family had perished learned that a younger brother had also survived, and his brother's son, 66-year-old Alexandre, was flying in from a remote part of Russia to see him.

The emotional meeting was made possible by Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial's comprehensive online database of Holocaust victims, a powerful genealogy tool that has reunited hundreds of long-lost relatives. But given the dwindling number of survivors and their advanced ages, Thursday's event seemed likely to be among the last of its kind.

Pilot Makes Incredible Crash Landing

A video has captured the moment a pilot made an incredible 'crash' landing after his small plane malfunctioned on Monday November 20 2017. The pilot had circled St. Mary's County Regional Airport, in Maryland, for more than 90 minutes after he realized his landing gear was defective.

An NBC chopper captured the drama from the skies as the plane finally came into land on its belly.

Footage showed an incredibly smooth landing as the aircraft touched down, without its wheels, coming to a slow but steady stop. Only a little smoke could be seen rising from behind it, from where metal dragged along the tarmac.

Moments later, the pilot opened the door of the aircraft and very casually jumping off the wing and strolling off the runway.

St. Mary's County Fire and Rescue, who had been on hand for the landing, were later seen investigating the plane - which was later removed from the runway with a crane.

Incredible Moment Meteor Lights up the Night Sky

This is the moment a meteor strike lit up the sky in Lapland, Finland. causing nearby homes to shake.

Tony Bateman films the night sky in Finland’s northernmost region to track the Aurora Borealis, but on Thursday night, near the village of Kaamanenhis in the far north of the province, his live stream picked up something remarkable.

Tony said he was sitting in his cottage when he heard a “huge bang” that shook the structure violently.

“I thought it was an earthquake, but we don’t get earthquakes in Lapland, right?” said Tony, who is originally from Runcorn in Cheshire but emigrated seven years ago.

After checking to see if a tree had fallen to cause the noise, Tony said he was “dumbfounded” and forgot about it until, half an hour later, his partner Piritta called and told him a meteor had struck nearby.

It’s believed the shaking was due to the sonic boom the meteor caused as it burned up in the atmosphere.

Tony’s company, Aurora Service Tours, runs the live stream to allow people to watch the Northern Lights in real time on YouTube, and checked to see if the camera had caught the spectacle.

Hundreds of charedi men belonging to the extremist Jerusalem Faction group have taken to the streets of Bnei Brak and Jerusalem once again to protest several relatively lengthy jail sentences by a military court against several yeshiva students who have illegally evaded IDF service.

The protestors blocked major roads and junctions in both cities, bringing traffic to a halt intermittently.

The Jaffa Military Court sentenced 11 yeshiva students who failed to undertake the necessary bureaucratic process required to obtain an IDF service exemption to sentences of up to 90 days in prison.

Defrost Windshield in Seconds with Weatherman's Solution

With temperatures set to plummet over the next few weeks, one weatherman has shared a handy hack for defrosting your windshield when you don't have de-icer to hand.

Meteorologist Ken Weathers, who is an East Tennessee WATE 6 News weatherman, posted a home video online, His tutorial involves mixing two parts Isopropyl alcohol, (also known as rubbing alcohol or surgical spirit), and one part water - things he says most people will already have in their house.

He advises mixing the two ingredients together and popping them in a spray bottle and then spritzing it over your windscreen.

As his video attests, after a few seconds, the windscreen becomes clear and he simply wipes away the excess solution.

Weathers was subject to a few comments from unconvinced drivers who said the hack was dangerous and could crack a windscreen.

In response, he told the doubters that he'd consulted with body shops who informed him that if motorists wash or wax their car as recommended, there will be no damage.

He also notes that you can easily wipe the solution of without scraping or scrubbing too hard.
Another one of his viral videos saw him reveal how to protect your windscreen wipers in cold conditions.

He advises lifting the blades off the glass and covering them with old socks.

Take a Cable Car Ride to Jerusalem’s Old City

Jerusalem's Transport Authority is promoting a Cable Car from the "First Station" at German Colony to the Shiloah Gate (Dung Gate) of the Old City.

This Cable Car will be a public transport utility, and cost the same as the bus, or use free transfer via the Rav Card smart card system. The cable car, to run from the city’s First Station complex to the Old City’s Dung Gate — the main entrance to the Western Wall — aims to ease traffic in and around the maze of narrow streets in the ancient part of Jerusalem by whizzing visitors across the 1.4 km route (just under a mile) as the crow flies, in just 3.5 minutes.

Earlier in the year the cabinet approved the first phase of the joint project between the Tourism Ministry and Jerusalem Development Authority. The Tourism Ministry will cover the initial budget of NIS 15 million ($4.2 million) with the total cost of the project estimated at about NIS 200 million ($56 million).

The project, the brainchild of the Jerusalem City Council and its mayor, Nir Barkat, has stoked controversy because the route passes over parts of East Jerusalem.
