Chinese Truckers Try to Stem Flood with Their Trucks
A group of Chinese truckers sprang into action over the weekend to save their town after a local levee broke and threatened the homes and lives of 23,000 of their fellow citizens.
Heavy rains and flooding tore a huge hole in a levee in Huarong County, Hunan Province on Sunday. The water pouring through the hole, which measured over 30 feet across, threatened to inundate the Xinhua Flood Basin and destroy tens of thousands of homes. As flood control officials jumped into action to evacuate the people in the flood basin, local police began flagging down truckers and requesting their help with relief efforts. Facing an increasing flood of water, the local flood control officials made an emergency decision to block the hole with heavily-laden trucks until a more permanent solution could be engineered.
"We had no other choice at that time," said Zhang Zhihong, the director of Huarong County's flood control office. "We hoped there were large cranes, or helicopters, but there were not. The flood was turbulent and the gap was reaching 17 meters (55 feet) wide.
At the behest of the authorities, 13 truckers sacrificed their personal trucks to help control the flood waters. The trucks were loaded with stone and bricks and driven into the water near the breach. The drivers, who were tied to safety cables, jumped from their cabs at the last moment and were pulled to safety. Eventually, the flood was contained and by Tuesday morning the hole in the levee was plugged by more permanent means.

Bear Somehow Breaks Into Car, Gets Locked Inside
Colorado deputies received an usual animal-related call on Tuesday morning when they responded to a report of a bear that somehow locked itself inside a car.
Deputies Josh Tillman and Brian McLaughlin of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene that morning and were baffled by how the bear got trapped inside the parked Subaru.
Annie Bruecker, 17, had reported the incident to police after she was about to head to work but found the animal inside her car.
The teenager also noted that she did not lock her car when she came home on Monday night, and said she would not be surprised if the bear had somehow opened the door and let itself in.
Authorities said the bear had clearly been inside the vehicle for a while due to the moisture on the windows. They also noted that due to its size, they wondered if a mama bear was nearby. deputies said after some deliberation, they decided the safest and quickest way to free the bear was to open the hatch.
However, this proved to be a challenge since none of the door's opened easily following the bear's destruction inside the car, which deputies noted included ripping off the door panels.
Deputy McLaughlin had to manually open it while Deputy Tillman stood nearby with his shotgun just in case,' the news release said. 'Thankfully once the door was open the bear had no interest in deputies, only in getting back into the wild.'

Lumberjack Runs for His Life
Watch as a lumberjack is forced to run for his life when the tree he was cutting split vertically and fell in an unpredictable manner, which is called a "barber chair". Luckily, the lumberjack was able to get away in time before the tree came crashing down to the ground in massive chunks.

Prisoners Bust Out of Jail To Save Jailer
When Texas inmate Nick Kelton saw a jailer whom he considers a "good man" slump over in front of his holding cell, it never occurred him him not to help. Along with the other inmates with whom the guard had been joking just moments prior to suffering an apparent heart attack, Kelton did just that. The self-described meth addict made the decision to become one of the inmates who saved the guard's life by breaking out of their shared cell and making enough noise to alert officials to what could have been a deadly situation,
The incident actually went down on June 23, but media outlets learned of it a full two weeks later, when the Parker County jail publicized the raw footage of the approximately eight shackled inmates busting out of a holding cell and rushing toward the armed guard, many of them in black-and-white-striped jumpsuits. Their intentions were anything but nefarious, although they're well aware of how the situation could have been perceived.

Epic Domino Show - Guinness World Records
The Tulln Domino Team from Austria recently toppled three spectacular world records in one massive chain reaction set-up including compact disc cases, a stick bomb and a domino wall.
Twenty-two members of the group spent three days arranging thousands and thousands of dominoes for the event in Tulln in Austria which was set up to celebrate the group’s seven years of working together.
The epic domino show started with a record for the Most disc cases toppled in a domino fashion, which saw a staggering 10,266 cases knocked down.
This went on to initiate a huge spring-loaded stick bomb which was expertly constructed out of flat sticks woven together under tension.
Tulln Domino Team previously set the record for the Largest stick bomb in 2015 with 30,849 sticks, but this attempt included a whopping 40,910.
The stick bomb stops for about two minutes during the attempt, but then continues without any interference while a giant domino wall was busy setting a record at the same time.
The Longest domino wall was made out of 42,173 pieces and was an incredible is 40.14 metres long – arguably the highlight of the entire display.
In addition to the three record-breaking formations, the construction also included a range of other items including books and cups which were also toppled in a domino fashion. However, these were not included in the records.
The event was a big hit with the audience and media in attendance, who cheered throughout.

Shuva - A.K.A. Pella - Music Video
The Shuva Project has been created to raise awareness of what it truly means for a family to experience a terror attack and to raise funds for those families who so desperately need our help.
In light of the recent terror attacks that claimed the lives of a 13 year-old girl, Hallel Yaffa Ariel, and Rabbi Michael “Miki” Mark, a father of 10 and head of a yeshiva in Otniel, The Shuva Project is making an emergency appeal.
They have produced a video based on a true story, similar to the recent tragedies, as well as a special song featuring AKA Pella.

Man Walk With His Pet Giant Tortoise
A Japanese man has been turning heads in Tokyo after taking his pet giant African tortoise for walks around the city's streets.
62-year-old owner Hisao Mitani says he has been taking his pet Bon-chan on daily walks for years, but the pair have only recently become famous after photographs of them when viral on the internet. Bon-chan is named after the festival of Obon, during which his wife brought the pet home from a store. The 70kg reptile is kept in a wooden enclosure designed by Mr Mitani, and lives off a diet of fruit and vegetables.

Robbers Steal $3, Fax Machine in Home Invasion in BP
Police are trying to identify two men who they said robbed a man inside his home in Brooklyn
It happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday on 50th Street and 15th Avenue in Borough Park.
The 76-year-old victim said he was returning home from synagogue when the suspects made their move. Surveillance video shows the suspects follow the victim up to his apartment, where they forced their way in after he opened the door, police said.
The suspects then ransacked the apartment. The victim said the ordeal lasted between 15 and 20 minutes. In the end, the two eventually fled with a fax machine and $3 in cash, police said.
The victim, who was not hurt, said he never saw the suspects’ faces and didn’t call police because the men disconnected his telephone cords.
He told his friend about the incident more than 24 hours later. That friend then contacted the police.
