CJ Studios: Who are they?

Crown Heights resident Yosef Shidler can barely remember a time when he didn’t have a camera in his hand.  In his teens, Shidler’s instrument of choice was a home movie camcorder, but as technology has evolved, the owner of CJ Studios, a rapidly growing photo and video studio in Brooklyn, has graduated to the highest caliber professional equipment and he spends his days indulging his passion for a hobby that, over time,  has evolved into an art form.

“It is always a thrill to be able to capture a moment in time,” said Shidler.  “It gives people who were there the opportunity to relive the experience and those who weren’t in attendance to feel as if they really were there.”

Skier Breathtaking Run Down a Mountain Chute

A 90-second clip shows California’s Cody Townsend plunging through a narrow crease in a steep mountain during a helicopter-assisted expedition in the Alaskan wilderness. “The chute is probably 5-6 feet wide at it’s narrowest I’d guess,” Townsend tells the Daily News. “It was hard to tell though because honestly, I was going so fast I wasn’t paying attention to anything that wasn’t directly in front of me. You’re focused on where you need to go, not on the details of what’s around you.”

Townsend says there isn’t any official name for either the peak or the chute. “There are so many mountains in Alaska that only the biggest and most iconic peaks tend to have official names,”

British PM Pays First Visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron visits for the first time the Nazi death camp Auschwitz in Poland where millions of Jews were killed during the Holocaust

During a 90-minute tour with the director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Mr Cameron was shown train tracks that brought people to the camp and gas chambers where many of them were murdered.

Speaking later, the prime minister said his visit to the camp had filled him with "an overwhelming sense of grief for all those who were killed simply because of their faith, their beliefs or their ethnicity". He said it was "a reminder of why the UK must fight against prejudice, persecution, anti-Semitism and tyranny wherever we find it and stand up for inclusiveness, tolerance and peace.

A commission to examine how the UK remembers the Holocaust was announced earlier this year. It is aiming to establish a "permanent and fitting memorial" to the victims of the Nazis. Mr Cameron said its proposals would be announced next month to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

NYPD Steps Up Security at 770

Authorities are stepping up security after a student was stabbed in 770 Tuesday.

Chabad officials say security has been tightened at the synagogue. Though they won’t elaborate on what measures have been put in place, police cars and officers were present outside of the facility all day Tuesday.

According to police, 49-year-old Calvin Peters stabbed 22-year-old Israeli student Levi Rosenblat in the head at the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights. Peters was then shot by an officer during a confrontation that was caught on cellphone video. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police believe the stabbing was an isolated incident. Rosenblat remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Updates On The Crown Heights Stabbing In 770

According to investigators, 49-year-old Calvin Peters, of Valley Stream, stabbed 22-year-old Israeli student Levi Rosenblat in the head. The stabbing happened at the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights at around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.

When confronted by officers, Peters allegedly lunged at them, leading one officer to shoot him in the chest. The entire incident was caught on cellphone video

Peters was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Rosenblat was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is in stable condition.

The NYPD held a brief press conference to address the shooting, saying Peters was known to police and had a history of being emotionally disturbed. They believe that it was an isolated incident.

A knife was recovered at the scene. The district attorney says authorities are investigating into whether the attack was a hate crime. The synagogue also says it will be increasing security.

Locked Up Bucks

Two Texas whitetail bucks not only got their antlers tangled together with rope, they also managed to wrap themselves around a metal pole in a video posted online by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department earlier this week.

It took the efforts of a TPWD game warden in Comal County, near San Antonio, TX to free them using his truck as a barrier between him and their thrashing legs. It's unclear how long the two had been stuck in their interesting predicament, but they sure were glad to be free. Both headed out at full speed back into the wild.

Israeli Bochur Stabbed At Chabad Headquarters in 770

A 22-year-old Bochur was critically injured after being stabbed in the neck by a disturbed man in the main synagogue sanctuary at 770 Eastern Parkway. The stabber was shot by police officers and later died of his injuries.

The incident began unfolding at around 1:30am when a Black man entered the synagogue sanctuary in the Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway and confronted a group of young rabbinical students while carrying a large switchblade style knife.

The man appeared to be disturbed and was visibly agitated according to multiple witnesses. The attacker spoke with the men for a minute when he suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed one of them in the neck. The victim fled out the main doors of the building and collapsed on the sidewalk in front of 770.

The victim was identified by friends as 22-year-old Levi Rosenblat, who is from Beitar Ilit, Israel and in the states studying in ‘Kvutzeh’.

As the victim and witnesses fled the synagogue they called out for help and police officers responded within seconds and confronted the suspect still inside.

Cellphone video reveals the NYPD police officers exercising extreme restraint, repeatedly ordering the suspect to drop the knife all while he is asking others around him if they “want to die tonight”.

At one point it appears that the man drops the knife and the incident concludes without any further bloodshed, but as officers move in to take the suspect into custody he quickly lunges for the knife and once again begins threatening officers.

As the suspect made a move towards police he was shot once in the chest and dropped to the ground. Police then move in an cuff him.

In the meantime Hatzalah volunteers were outside 770 treating the victim and once the suspect was restrained they were called in to treat the stabber, who was now the victim of a gunshot wound.

Both victim and assailant were rushed to Kings County Hospital and were both initially listed in critical condition. The victim was later ‘upgraded’ to stable – year still critical – condition. The suspect succumbed to his wounds and died at the hospital.

The suspect was identified as a 50-year-old man, but his name was being withheld pending his families notification.

Trucker Escapes Fiery Crash Through Windshield

A tanker truck driver was seen on video escaping the massive blaze that resulted from a crash on Route 78 in Union Township, NJ.  by crawling out of his windshield. A other man was killed in the crash, according to State Police.

Joe DeGioia, 28, was driving to Hoboken on 78 eastbound when he saw the crash and began to take video, ultimately capturing the moment Singh escaped."I saw it in the distance and I didn’t think anything of it, but when I got closer it was surreal," DeGioia said. "I started taking video and you can hear two or three explosions and then I saw the man crawl out of the windshield of the truck. After that I stopped recording."DeGioia said Singh walked to the side of the road and looked "completely out of it," before paramedics came and assisted him."I drove over the median from the express lane to the local lane like a lot of other people were," DeGioia said. "Even three lanes away I could feel the heat. It felt like I was standing next to the biggest bonfire."Williams said the mulch truck driver, Mario Quiroz, 53, of North Bergen, was treated and released from an area hospital.

4-year-old is UPS Driver for a Day

Four-year-old Carson Knight has a thing for brown trucks. The cutie from Colorado Springs has been obsessed nearly his entire life with the UPS truck that makes deliveries to his home.

Carson was born with a condition that didn't allow him to drink anything with milk proteins, so they needed to have a special formula delivered several times a week.

Over the years, he developed a friendship with Mr. Ernie, the driver who handled the route in the Knight’s neighborhood. Every time he pulled up, Carson would head outside and Mr. Ernie would show him around the truck. Carson loved it so much, he even had his parents buy him a UPS uniform.

Mr. Ernie sent Carsons story to UPS’s Your Wishes Delivered program, which donates $1 to The Boys and Girls Clubs of America, The Salvation Army or the Toys for Tots Literacy Program for every wish submitted, and makes some of them come true.

A few weeks later, when Mr. Ernie stopped by, he had a different kind of package for Carson: his own toy ride-in UPS truck, and some boxes to deliver to the neighbors.

"He's just one of those guys who, to me, is very special and has become a very special role model in Carson's life," Carson’s mom. "I'm just so thankful that he is one of the most humble, gracious men that I've met to interact with my young son."

Soon after his very special delivery, however, Mr. Ernie was moved to a different route. But Carson has kept going, delivering treats to the neighbors in his truck.

Bennett Debates Martin Indyk at the Saban Forum

"If we took a poll here I’m sure Zahava Gal-On would be Prime Minister & Tzipi Livni would be in second place. How many missiles need to fall on Ashkelon until you’ll wake up?" "We have to undo the decades of nonsense that the peace industry has fermented," Bennett says.

Martin Sean Indyk was the former US ambassador to Israel and is the Vice President and Director for Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.

On December 5-7, the Center for Middle East Policy hosted its 11th annual Saban Forum. This year’s Forum included webcasts featuring remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (via satellite), U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Isaac Herzog, Israeli chair of the Labor Party and leader of the opposition, and Naftali Bennett, Israeli Minister of Economy; Minister of Religious Services, Jerusalem and Diaspora Affairs; Chairman, Jewish Home Party. Forum sessions focused on the future for Israelis and Palestinians, the nuclear negotiations with Iran and how Israel and the United States are coping with turmoil in Syria and the threat from ISIS.
