They were allegedly swinging sticks and slinging racial slurs. Three people have been charged with beating a Brooklyn man and police are investigating it as a hate crime.
The victim recorded it on his cell phone and shared the footage exclusively with CBS2.
It started as a fender-bender in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. Ruben Werczbeger’s car was hit from behind.
While surveying the damage, investigators say three people on the sidewalk who had nothing to do with the accident attacked Werczberger, an orthodox Jew who wears a beard, side curls, and a yarmulke.
They came out of nowhere and smashed Werczberger’s windshield with a two by four, allegedly because he’s Jewish.
Werczberger is Hasidic and was driving to his Borough Park home on Tuesday night, when he got into a fender bender in Sunset Park. Minutes later three people, two of them women, attacked.
Werczberger did not suffer any serious injuries.
District Attorney Ken Thompson created the office’s first ever hate crime bureau to prosecute cases like this. “We can’t have people getting attacked on the streets of Brooklyn because of who they are,” Thompson said.
Despite there being video evidence of the crime, which helps in prosecuting the case, D.A. Thompson said he does not encourage people to record criminal acts because ti can jeopardize their safety and make the attackers even more angry.

Chaptzem Gone Wrong
In the light of day and in the heart of Crown Heights, two African-American men assaulted and mugged a young Jewish man. Thanks to the heroic efforts of several bystanders, one of the perpetrators was caught and arrested.
The incident occurred at around 4:00pm near the corner of Kingston Ave. and Carroll Street.
The victim was approached by the two perpetrators, one of whom grabbed his neck and violently choke him, while demanding that he hand over his wallet and cell phone.
The victim promptly obeyed and handed over his money and phone, and the thieves ran off up Kingston Avenue towards President Street.
The victim’s shouts for help were heeded by a vigilant bystander, who chased down and tackled the assailant (his accomplice got away). As he was brought down to the ground, the victim’s wallet and phone fell out of his pocket.
A crowd of bystanders surrounded the perpetrator to hold him there until police arrived. Unfortunately, he managed to break free and bolted up Kingston Avenue. One of the bystanders chased the man, and finally caught up with him on Union Street between Troy and Schenectady Aves. There he held the man until police arrived.
Shomrim arrived at the scene and brought over the victim to where the police had arrived. He positively identified the suspect as the one who choked and mugged him.
The man was then place under arrest and taken down to the 71st Precinct, where a police report was filed.

World's Smallest Man Meets World's Tallest
It was a meeting of epic proportions.
The world's tallest and shortest men met for the first time this morning to commemorate Guinness World Record Day. Sultan Kösen, who is 8ft 1in. tall, and Chandra Dangi, who measures just 21.5ins., posed for photos outside the Houses of Parliament to mark the book's 60th anniversary.
The two men join hundreds of others who are taking part in a number of record attempts across the world to celebrate the occasion. The annual broke a record of its own in 2004 when it became the world's best-selling copyright book. Guinness World Record Day was set up to commemorate the date. Mr Kösen, 31, from Ankara, Turkey, became the world's tallest living man in 2009, when he took the title from 63-year-old Xi Shun, from China, who measured 7 ft 8.95 ins. in 2005.
Mr Kösen, a part-time farmer, was the first man over 8ft to be measured by the company in over 20 years - and one of only 10 people on record to break the height barrier. Mr Kösen also holds the record for largest hands of a living person, each one measuring 11.22 in from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger. And he previously held the record for largest feet on a living person, with his left foot measuring 1 ft 2 ins and right foot measuring 1 ft 1.98 ins.
Mr Dangi, who lives in the isolated Nepalese village of Reemkholi, some 335miles southwest of Kathmandu, is the shortest adult human to have their height verified by Guinness. At just 21.5ins, Mr Dangi is the same size as six cans of baked beans stacked on top of each other. He beat the benchmark set by Gul Mohammed, from New Delhi, India, who measured 22.5ins. Three of his five brothers were less than four feet tall, while his two sisters and two brothers are of average height.

Incredibly Close Call For One Lucky Pedestrian
An SUV, truck and pedestrian are all trying to cross the road, but
it’s actually the scene of a meeting that was caught on a Russian
dashcam.
The SUV with its signal flashing eased its way into the center turn lane and might have thought it could out-drive the dump truck speeding toward it, but, of course, the inevitable happened. The two vehicles crashed all while a man was standing in the middle of the road — cue a moment of suspense for the fate of the pedestrian. Amazingly, the pedestrian walked away from the scene unscathed, looking at himself in disbelief for a moment.
Then, he continued his journey across the street and left the two drivers to hash out their issues.

A Profile Of Chasidic Village Of Kiryas Joel
Monroe, NY - In a Nov. 12 article by the Village Voice, the fast growth of the town of Kiryas Joel is chronicled and the problems that come with a growing village.
Begun in 1970s with just 500 residents, the population is now more than 23,000. And what started as a peaceful and small town to be cut out for Hasidic Jewish residents grew into an areas that has seen its fair share of job growth, industry growth and problems with development, money, voting and a period of time called the War Time.
Loyalists banished dissidents from the town, and in turn, the dissidents built their own schools and cemeteries just outside of Kiryas Joel lines. Blurred social and political lines are uncovered as The Village Voice details the tensions that have risen in a village right along with the buildings and population.

Feisty Baby Elephant Fends Off Attack by 14 Lions
After straying from his mother, a 1-year-old elephant survived a vicious attack by 14 lions at the Norman Carr Safaris Chinzombo Camp in Zambia. Clearly outnumbered, the baby elephant managed to get away unscathed despite having three of the lionesses on his back at one point.
The dramatic incident was captured on video when journalist Jesse Nash, Long Island University Art Professor Dan Christoffel, Naturalist Steve Baker and Australian TV personality Nina Karnikowski embarked on a game drive through the safari, stumbling upon the site. “In the 30-plus years I have been a safari guide in Zambia at the Luangwe Park, never have I seen anything like this,” said Innocent, a top safari guide who works with Norman Carr Safaris and drove the group to the site. “We were all so worried the baby elephant would be killed right before us.”

Woman Stabbed to Death at Gush Etzion Terror Attack
Dalia Lemkos hy"d, 26, of Tekoa, was stabbed to death, and two other people were wounded in a terrorist attack at a hitchhiking station outside the town of Alon Shvut in Gush Etzion Monday evening - the second such attack in less than 12 hours.
Lemkos died of neck wounds, according to paramedics. Chilling CC TV video shows the terrorist plowing into Lemkos with his car, then returning to stab her. The time of her funeral has not been released.
A 26-year-old man who was also stabbed is in light to moderate condition and a 50-year-old was hurt in the jaw and is in light condition. Witnesses say the terrorist tried to run down his victims with a car at first, but failed, and then got out of the car and began stabbing. The guard at the gate of the community of Alon Shvut came running to the scene of the rampage and shot the terrorist in the chest several times.
Police said the terrorist was evacuated to hospital with serious injuries but died en-route. He has since been identified as Maher Hamdi al-Hashalmoun, a resident of Hevron. The bus station where the attack took place is the same one at which Israeli teens Eyal Yifrah, Gilad Sha'ar and Naftali Frenkel were abducted earlier this year before being brutally murdered.
The attack is the second stabbing in six hours, after a Palestinian worker stabbed a 20 year-old IDF soldier in Tel Aviv. The 20-year-old victim of that attack is currently in critical condition after being stabbed numerous times, including in the upper body and waist, as he tried to fight off his attacker. His attacker was chased down and by police, and has been identified as Nur al-Din Abu Hashiya, an 18-year-old from Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria who had illegally entered into sovereign Israeli territory - one of countless other illegal Palestinian workers.

Drunk Children Love the Ice Cream Truck
The video with over eleven million views shows one child screaming, falling, and then screaming again for ice cream.
Selina O’Meara of Nenagh, Ireland was babysitting her godchild Liam and his older brother Luke. The professional photographer decided to snap a few photos of the kids as they ate beans and toast.
“Luke was putting all of the beans in the bowl (on his toast),” O’Meara tells us. “I thought, ‘This is gonna go wrong.’” Sure enough, moments after hitting record, young Liam takes a tumble off of a ledge in the kitchen. Not five seconds later, Luke hears a sound in the background. “The ice cream…” he yells, not able get the word “truck” out of his mouth before falling out of his chair. O’Meara begins laughing before exclaiming “Oh my G-d!” as she pans down to see Luke crying his eyes out.
“He was okay,” she said. “The chairs aren’t really that high.”

Sea Lion Visits Fishing Boat for a Quick Snack
From the author: "A group of us chartered a fishing boat with two guides in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We caught two marlins (you can see one in the video) and then a sea lion appeared as we were moving about 25 mph. The guide said this happens a lot and they just want fish to eat. It was a little odd when the sea lion dropped the fish and stared at us. We weren't sure what he would do. The guide said to be careful because anything can happen. The sea lion got the fish and was gone."

Vision Zero Crackdown on Brooklyn's Ocean Parkway
New York City Mayor de Blasio signed a law lowering New York City’s 30-miles-per-hour speed limit to 25. The change is the centerpiece of de Blasio’s "Vision Zero" plan to reduce New York City traffic deaths, which numbered 291 last year. (To compare: The city saw 333 murders during the same period.) The majority of those killed were on foot when they were struck by cars or other vehicles, and the new speed limit is explicitly intended to protect pedestrians. "When drivers are driving below 25 miles an hour, it gives them much more time to avoid crashes, gives drivers and pedestrians more time to see each other, greatly intensifies the opportunity to save lives," said de Blasio at the signing, which took place at the Delancey Street intersection named after Dashane Santana, a 12-year-old killed by a minivan there in 2012.
If they only banned driving entirety there would be even fewer deaths. Perhaps that wold take a genuine hipster Mayor to implement something like that. But for now enjoy the 'speeding' tickets.
