New York City broke a 118-year-old record, but it was just one of 45 places setting cold weather records as arctic air pushed into the Northeast. More than 200,000 weather-related calls were made to New York City's help line in a 24-hour span, but the cold snap is expected to end by the weekend. CBS News Jim Axelrod reports.

Family of Menachem Stark HY'D Offering Reward
Members of the Stark family joined with elected officials and community leaders for a press conference at the Williamsburg home of Stark’s sister this afternoon January 6 2014, hoping that an increased reward might motivate someone to come forward with information in the shocking and brutal murder of real estate developer Menachem Stark HY"D
An emotionally overwrought Abraham Buxbaum, a brother in law of the slain real estate developer, announced that an earlier reward offered by the family has been increased from $11,000 to $25,000. Stark’s brother in law Moses Strulowitz expressed frustration about the media coverage, referring to those “that love gossip and love to talk nonsense.”
Strulowitz also thanked the NYPD and the detective squad unit for their efforts in what he described as a “ruthless, gruesome murder” and stated unequivocally that as Chasidic, Orthodox Jews, no one is looking for an opportunity to avenge Stark’s death. “We believe that everything is meant to be and that everything is from G-d,” said Strulowitz. “Good things happen from good people and the worst things happen from the worst people. G-d will punish them no matter what.”

Boiling Water From Water Gun In Extreme Cold
From the Uploader: Woke up to a balmy -41C this morning in South Porcupine, ON. Canada Thought I'd share what happens when you mix boiling water and a water gun and take it outside for a few shots.
The stream of water appeared to have turned into a home-made fog machine, and temperatures were so cold that despite repeatedly spraying the water gun, none of the water ever hit the ground. Hot water can freeze faster than cold water through a scientific process known as the Mpemba Effect. And, although it looks like dry ice, the effect is caused by water freezing, rather than liquid CO2.

"ועגל וכפיר...יחדיו" The Calf and the Young Lion... Together!
A pretty amazing clip of a young male lion protecting a young calf from yet another lion.
This seems to be as close as one can get to the Posuk in Yeshaya:
