Koussevitzky Sings Kel Malei Rachamim After WW2

Moshe Koussevitzky (1899-1966) is still remembered by many as the greatest chazzan of the post-World War II era. He had a graceful and powerful lyric tenor with a phenomenal upper register with
which he could do wonders. For sheer artistry, it is hard to beat his “Hashem Malach,” “Esa Einai” or “Ledor Vador.” Koussevitzky’s rendition of Israel Schorr’s “Sheyibaneh Beis Hamikdash” is his most famous recording.

I am told this was recorded some time after World War 2.

New World Dictator!

A little kid outside the stadium in Philadelphia before a World Series game brings cheers from the crowd at his command.

Here's the real story from the Mom: "We snuck out into the middle of Broad Street to snap a pic in front of City Hall and all the crowds. When Will raised his hands for the picture, cheers erupted. So he continued to repeat the gesture, getting wild response from the crowd on both sides of the street up and down the street as far as we could see. We couldn't have planned this if we practiced and practiced. I wish the video was longer."

Here is additional footage from a different angle. In the words of the author of this video: "Here is additional footage of Will Firing up the crowd at the Phillies parade. I happened to have my camera rolling as this little guy stole the show and is now a youtube legend. (I apologize if the camera work is a bit shaky)".

And another angle.

The Oiber Chochom

Rare Footage - Moshe Koussevitzky Sings V'Lirusholayim Ircho

Moshe Koussevitzky was born on June 9th 1899 at Smargon in Vilna, Lithuania and came from a background of Chazanut. He was the oldest of the four brothers, with Jacob, Simcha and David and, as is well-known, they all went on to become famous Chazanim in their own right.

Moshe is regarded generally as the Chazan's Chazan. He was possessed of an outstanding, well-trained, tenor voice of extraordinary range and flexibility and an innate understanding of the art of Chazanut. Moshe Passed away on August 23, 1967, in New York.

This is the first time I've seen a video of Moshe Koussevitzky. Has anyone else seen other videos/movies of Koussevitzky?

The Good Old Days of 770

Reb Mendel Futerfas (1906-1995), known informally as Reb Mendel, was a famous Chabad Mashpia. He was a top student of the famed Mashpia, Reb Zalman Moishe Yitzchaki.

He was known for telling stories, particularly from his many years he was tortured while incarcerated in communist Russia for the crime of forging hundreds of false passports enabling hundreds if not thousands of Jews to escape Russia where they couldn't practice Judaism. He would derive lessons from everything he heard and saw there.

He once told that although playing cards was against prison rules, his prison-mates would always play in their cell. The prison guard could see them playing, however when he came in, the cards would be gone and as hard as he would search, the guard could not find the illicit items. When he finally gave up and promised not to bother the prisoners if they would only tell him what they do with the cards, they told him that every time he came in, they would slip the cards into his own pocket and then pick-pocket the cards back before he left. Reb Mendel learned from this that sometimes we go looking far and long, when we have what we want in our own pocket.
