Did you ever see a movie or video portraying Orthodox Jews in a negative light? Lately, people who have had trauma (which we know happens to members of every race, culture, and religious group) have cashed in by publishing books or movie rights to sensationalize the "ugliness and dirty laundry" of their childhood upbringing. Unfortunately, this has led some to condemn Orthodoxy and turn their backs on Hashem and Torah.

What is it actually like for a child to grow up in an orthodox environment?

I followed our two youngest children around one Sunday afternoon in Monsey, NY, and recorded their playfulness and brotherly love. This music video portrays a beautiful slice of their life, growing up in a traditional Orthodox Jewish home without the fake cinematic irony or negative religious portrayal. Just fun, adventure, and a sense of family and love.  This was my upbringing as well (minus the dolphin riding and crocodile taming)! My friends were raised this same way. While this may not amount to great cinema or compelling drama, it was our reality. Being brought up in a "normal" wholesome Orthodox Jewish home was the greatest gift our parents could have given us!

The song that Luzy and Meyer are singing is my composition based on a prayer said before musaf on Shabbat. In it, ask for all good things including health, long life, good children, sustenance, and more.

Amen!
