Protesters, Supporters Clash over CouncilmanYeger Tweet

BOROUGH PARK, Brooklyn — Protestors from the group Bay Ridge for Social Justice rallied outside Council Member Kalman Yeger’s Borough Park office Thursday protesting his tweet from Wednesday that reads, in part, “Palestine does not exist.”

“Yeger's comments were hateful. They were outrageous. He was dehumanizing Palestinians, which is absolutely unacceptable of any leader - especially a New York City Councilmember,” said Alex Pellitteri, with Bay Ridge for Social Justice.

But the protestors were quickly outnumbered by counter protestors waving Israeli flags and chanting.

Things got loud and there were heated exchanges between both groups, but a strong NYPD presence kept things under control.

Criticism of Yeger’s tweet also came from city leaders including Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson.

Late Thursday afternoon Councilmember Yeger doubled down and told PIX11 he stands by his statement.

“My point was never about people. My point was about location: a geographic reality, an international legal reality, a fact. There is no state by that name,” said Yeger.

Back in Borough Park, community leaders called for cooler heads to prevail.

Man Lifted Into the Air by High Winds in Turkey

A man trying to secure a huge patio-style cafe umbrella during high winds on a street in Turkey got more than he bargained for - after it lifted him 13ft (4m) off the ground as it blew away.

Footage shows two men sitting at a small table in the southern province of Osmaniye when the awning starts flapping wildly.

As they rush over to secure the umbrella, which is moving around dangerously on a wheeled platform, a third man - Sadik Kocadalli - joins in to help them.
The trio place their feet on the base - but then the whole apparatus suddenly takes off.

While the other two men step back onto the ground, Mr Kocadilli grips on to the umbrella pole for dear life as he disappears - up and away from view.

He was lifted about 13ft before he jumped off - and miraculously survived the ordeal without any injuries.

Police Chase Ends with Push Ups

A suspect is in custody after leading the Arizona Department of Public Safety on a pursuit through central Phoenix on Tuesday.

The incident started just after 2 p.m. on Interstate 17, north of Phoenix.

Troopers began receiving 911 calls about a red jeep SUV speeding southbound on I-17. Callers reported that the SUV was swerving, driving "all over the road" and making rude gestures.

When troopers located the suspect vehicle south of Black Canyon City, the driver was reportedly going 100 miles an hour. A trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop, but DPS says the driver failed to yield and kept going.

Troopers followed the suspect as he continued southbound. One trooper "witnessed the driver drinking what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage."

Finally, troopers were able to successfully spike the two front tires of the SUV. But, the driver still kept going. He continued to drive southbound on two flat tires until, at last, he exited Thunderbird.

Video from the news helicopter showed DPS troopers taking the suspect into custody at a QuikTrip near I-17, The suspect was seen doing push-ups before being tased by troopers at the gas station.

Driver Cheats Death by Inches

This is the terrifying moment a driver escaped being hit by a semi-trailer on Shanghai–Kunming Expressway after pulling his car over and getting out on the hard shoulder.

In the CCTV video, captured in Jiaxing City in eastern China's Zhejiang Province on March 20, a man steps out of his electric car which had broken down, and asks help from police on his phone while standing on the other side of the guardrails.

However, a semi-trailer suddenly speeds into the car from its back and drags it forward, completely smashing it.

According to reports, the driver followed police instructions after his car broke down to turn on a warning sign for 150m before pulling over, then putting on the emergency flashers and stand off the road.

The semi-trailer driver did not notice the car and crashed into it because of fatigue while driving.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

President Trump Meets With PM Netanyahu

President Donald Trump officially recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights Monday in a ceremony with Benjamin Netanyahu, delivering a symbolic boost to the Israeli prime minister just two weeks before he faces a re-election vote.

The presidential proclamation, foreshadowed last week when Trump said it was time for the change, breaks with decades of U.S. policy.

“Under my administration, the unbreakable alliance between the United States and Israel has never been stronger," Trump told reporters at the White House.

Netanyahu told Trump: “Israel has never had a better friend than you.”

Netanyahu was originally planning to speak at the annual meeting of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee this week in Washington but cut short his trip after a rocket attack on Israel from Gaza.

Trump announced his intention to recognize Israeli control over the territory it captured in 1967 in a tweet last week, prompting speculation he was looking to assist Netanyahu politically. The Israeli prime minister and longtime Trump ally has been dogged by corruption allegations, and polls show a close April 9 election.

Migrants Run From Police In Failed Smuggling Attempt

A group of migrants packed into a pickup truck ran away from authorities in a failed human smuggling attempt. The incident occurred in Brooks County, Texas, approximately 70 miles north of the border with Mexico. Sheriff’s office deputies captured the chase and bail-out on a police dash cam video.

The failed smuggling attempt took place near the town of Encino, Texas, when a Brooks County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to pull over a white Ford pickup. A records check on the vehicle’s license plates revealed that the truck had been reported stolen, the sheriff’s office reported.

The police dash cam video revealed that shortly after stopping, the driver of the pickup drives away at a high rate of speed along U.S. Highway 281. The fleeing truck loaded with migrants then crosses into oncoming traffic and then drives off the road. After stopping, more than 20 migrants can be seen jumping out of the vehicle and trying to run away from law enforcement. It remains unclear how many of the group members were apprehended.

According to the Israeli police, the rocket hit the house, setting off a fire and destroying part of the house.

"When the Israeli government pays protection to the Hamas, this is what happens and the Hamas are increasing their pressure on Israel as time goes by," said Labour MP Omer Bar-Lev.

The attack triggered sirens at around 5:20am local time, according to the army.
