Alaska Plane Crash All on Board Survive
In another remarkable story of survival, it appears there were no fatalities when a plane carrying 11 people crashed Tuesday in a mountainous region of Alaska. It happened about 40 miles southwest of Ketchikan,
A Coast Guard rescue helicopter battled deteriorating weather and very limited visibility. It had to hoist the pilot and 10 passengers to safety.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) says the plane that crashed is a float equipped de Havilland Otter like this one. The pilot called 911 after the crash Tuesday morning. Everyone on board survived the crash, it's believed many are injured. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The plane took off from Prince of Wales Island Tuesday morning bound for Ketchikan, about 25 miles away. Initial reports are the plane went down about 2,000 feet up a mountain in rocky, tree-covered terrain. Visibility was reported at a quarter of a mile.
There are reports the plane was one of the sightseeing flights that are popular in the region. A spokesman for the Alaska State Troopers called it "tremendous" that no one died in the crash. The NTSB is investigating.

Fearless Photographer Stands Up to Polar Bear
A fearless wildlife photographer proved that he would go to great lengths to get the perfect shot - even if it meant shooing away a giant polar bear.
Maxim Deminov wasn't the least bit intimidated by a curious beast while he was filming making sure he got some great pictures before he scared the animal off, multiple times. His work was part of the 'Bear Patrol' which monitored and prevented possible bear conflicts near their settlement in Cape Kozhevnikov, Russia.

Near-miss Between Train and Man on the Tracks
Hair-raising video shows a man being pulled up out of the way of a train with mere seconds to spare in Sydney, Australia.
In the video posted to Facebook by Sydney Trains, the city’s passenger rail network, an unidentified man ambles onto a deserted platform and seems not to notice as he moves closer and closer to the edge, until he falls onto the tracks below.
The video, which is a combination of footage from cameras in the train station and within the train's cabin, also shows the driver's view, which is obstructed by a bend in the tracks.
As the man tries in vain to climb back onto the platform, the driver can see only the tracks and the surrounding area and the train speeds toward the station. Another unidentified person then enters the platform, runs to the man and pulls him back up.

Woman Rescued from Car into a Canal
Crews from the Mesa Fire Department rescued a woman after her car went into a canal on Monday afternoon July 9 2018 during monsoon storms.
It's unclear at this time how the car ended up in the canal.
The woman was reportedly able to breathe in an air pocket inside the flooded car. Fire officials say the woman suffered minor injuries in the incident.
"She's very lucky," said Dean Morales, a special operations captain with the Mesa Fire Department. "She's very lucky."
Cell phone video shows a rescuer bringing the woman to the surface.
"Typically firefighters don't go underwater unless they have scuba equipment," Morales said. "This was one of those operations that you do what it takes."

Hunter Captures Video of Mother Black Bear
Zachary Brown was baiting bears at Wizard Lake Outfitting in Stony Plain, Alberta, on May 20, when he was charged by a mother bear.
Brown, an experienced hunter, had only intended to record the female bear on video. The reasons she charged him, he said in accompanying text, were that he didn’t let her know right away he was there, and was too focused on filming and let the bear get too close.

Mystery Boeing 747 Parked in Field Baffles Locals
Locals were baffled when this enormous Boeing 747 suddenly appeared in a muddy field near their homes.
The Queen of the Skies appeared to have landed in the remote patch of grass in Chai Nat, Thailand, when it showed up overnight earlier this month.
Villagers flocked to take pictures of the Jumbo Jet with a distinctive purple and gold Thai Airways livery which had been stripped of its GEnx engines.
Apart from the cargo hold, all of the doors to the plane were shut making it impossible to climb inside and investigate further.
Residents flocked to the site when the plane first appeared before landowner Somchai Phukieow revealed that he had bought the decommissioned aircraft at a local auction.
Somchai said he had the plane delivered by lorry before it was lifted by a crane and lowered onto concrete blocks to prevent it from sinking into the wet ground.
He said: ''I bought the plane at an auction in the city. The engine and all the computer parts were taken out already. ''I would like to make a small attraction here, with a motor-cross track and a football pitch, so people can look inside the plane and watch the sports from inside, too.''
Somchai allowed visitors to photograph the plane from a distance but has prevented anybody from climbing inside.
