Struggle Families Endure When Struggling With Anorexia

The struggle against an eating disorder is relentless and constant, 24/7. Those in the struggler’s environment need help in dealing with the struggler on a day-to-day and minute-to-minute basis.

Dealing with a family member who has an eating disorder places great stress on the family. Progress is not straightforward - it is one of ups and downs. If intervention is made very early on, the rate of recovery can be as short as one year. If the disease went undiagnosed for any length of time, recovery can take years. The emotional and financial strain on families is enormous. They see their suffering as unending.

Despite the enormous challenge inherent in our work, Magen Avrohom continues to be there for strugglers and families. We are committed to every struggler who walks through our door. They know we understand the struggle, and that we care. Through education, guidance and support, the strugglers regain self-confidence. They are encouraged to make positive choices, which puts them on the road to complete healing, eventually freeing them from eating disorder’s powerful grip.

Magen Avrohom’s aim is to keep the struggler as functional as possible in their natural community environment; to support and guide family members; and to ensure that the struggler is progressing towards recovery.

Hunter Close Encounter With Bear in Tree Stand

Up close and bear-sonal

A 14-year-old hunter came close to becoming the hunted as he sat in a tree stand in Alberta, Canada on Sunday.

Davin Grunrow was out hunting with a family friend and was waiting patiently on a metal ledge attached to a tree when a black bear cub began to climb up towards him, Global News reported.

The bear made it to the top of the tree and almost appeared to nuzzle the boy as family friend Mark White began to make whistling noises to lure the cub away.

Grunrow and his sister had been taken on their first hunting trip by White, who said he had given the children a crash course in how to deal with bears up close.

'We always know, when we go in the stand, if the bear comes up the tree, stay calm,' he said.

'He learned everything that night I could possibly teach him.

'He got close, and handled himself unbelievably.'

The bear had approached the tree with its family, and had climbed up away from its mother to investigate the situation. After a short period of time, the bear slowly disembarked from the tree and returned to its family.

Eagle Swooped a Fox Clutching a Rabbit

It only lasted for a savage, fleeting instant, but for 8 intense seconds last week an eagle, a fox, and a rabbit flew across the sky as one.

In an incredibly rare scene, photographers have captured the moment a bald eagle swooped down upon a young red fox clutching a rabbit, and in its whirlwind attempt to steal the fox's prey, the whole trio becomes airborne.

The surreal episode is a dramatic example of kleptoparasitism – where an animal steals food or prey from another – and the phenomenon probably doesn't get much more extraordinary than this fierce display witnessed at the San Juan Island National Historical Park in Washington State last week.

Ambassador Friedman Photograph Sparks Controversy

U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman said he was “deeply disappointed” to have a photo of Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, photo-shopped with the mosques replaced by the Temple, thrust in front of him during a tour of a religious town.

“Ambassador Friedman was not aware of the image thrust in front of him when the photo was taken,” the U.S. embassy said Tuesday on Twitter.

“He was deeply disappointed that anyone would take advantage of his visit to Bnei Brak to create controversy,” it said. “The U.S. policy is absolutely clear: we support the status quo on the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount.” Haram al-Sharif is the Muslim term for the site

Friedman had toured Bnei Brak, a mostly haredi Orthodox suburb of Tel Aviv. It’s not clear who thrust the massive photo in front of him, but he is smiling in the picture and it quickly went viral.

Friedman was a central figure influencing President Donald Trump to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem earlier this month. Trump, Freidman and others have emphasized that the move, which has prompted outrage among Palestinians and others in the Muslim world, should have no bearing on the status quo of the holy sites.

Driver Flies Through Car Window After Head-on Collision

This is the incredible moment a driver cheats death when he is thrown through the window of his overturning car and manages to jump to his feet.

The spectacular accident was caught on CCTV cameras in the city of Kolomyia in north-western Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast region.

The man was approaching a crossroads in his Fiat Doblo when a silver Mercedes suddenly shot from the road to his left and rammed into the side of his vehicle.

The impact knocked the Fiat into a spin and sent it swinging around into a silver-grey Mazda waiting on the other side of the crossroads.

The Fiat smashed into the Mazda and overturned as the driver shot through a side window, landing on the road and leaping to his feet.

The fortunate Fiat driver, along with two adults and two children who were in the Mercedes, and a woman and child who were in the Mazda, were taken to hospital to be checked over.

Remarkably none of them needed to stay overnight and they were later all allowed to go home.

It is unclear who was at fault for the accident.

The footage of the accident is proving predictably popular after it was posted on video-sharing platforms where viewers were divided on who was to blame.

Private Jet Splits in Half in Crash Landing

Crew and passengers are all alive after a private jet traveling from Austin, Texas, crashed off the end of the runway of the Honduran capital's international airport and broke in half. on Tuesday May 22 2018

Video posted online showed what appeared to be Tegucigalpa residents pulling people out of the damaged fuselage of the white Gulfstream jet, while others sprayed it with hand-held fire extinguishers.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and doused the wreckage with foam. Photos appeared to show part of the plane lying across a street.

Police and citizens help rescue survivors of the Honduras plane crash as the private jet is doused in foam.

The Honduran Civil Aviation Agency confirmed the flight came from Austin.

Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane registered to TVPX Aircraft Solutions Inc in North Salt Lake, Utah.

Honduras's emergency management agency said on Twitter that first responders rescued passengers and crew. It did not provide the number of those aboard, but said all were alive.

Tegucigalpa's airport has long been notorious as one of the more difficult approaches in the hemisphere, surrounded by mountaintops and residential neighbourhoods.

The airport's runway is about 2 kilometres long, according to the airport's website.

Israeli Settlers in the West Bank

“Why would an Israeli Jew choose to live in the West Bank?”

That’s the question that motivates writer Wajahat Ali to travel to Israel in a new documentary from The Atlantic. Ali, who has been critical of Israel, embarks on a personal quest to understand the perspectives of some of the 400,000 Israeli Jews who live in the occupied territory in defiance of international law—and to hear from the Palestinians who oppose them.

In his travels through the West Bank, Ali visits the family of a Palestinian terrorist, ventures into the heart of one of the most radical settlements, and speaks to the leader of an NGO focused on creating a dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians.

Man Tackled After Grabbing Suspicious Package

'I'm going to defuse this situation': Cyclist fed up with waiting for the bomb squad empties backpack to show it hasn't got explosives in it - before being tackled by the police

A suspicious package investigation took an unexpected turn after a fed-up cyclist emptied its contents onto the street before police tackled him to the ground.

The bag was reported to police on Monday May 21 2018 after it was spotted on top of an electrical box  on Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee shortly before 7am.

The call prompted response from police and the the bomb squad who were investigating the 'suspicious package' before the bizarre scene unfolded.

The video shows the bag being moved from the box onto the intersection by an official in protective armour as a safety precaution causing the road to be blocked off with police tape.

The seemingly impatient road user is seen getting off his bike next to the yellow tape before picking up the bag and tipping out the contents-of which were a water bottle, clothing and smaller items- onto the street.

The cyclist then slams the back on the road before hastily being tackled to the ground by a number of officers with one of them cuffing the assailant.

The bomb squad and police remained at the scene after the man was taken into custody.
