Sinkhole Swallows Two People Walking

This is the shocking moment two medics are swallowed by a massive sinkhole that opens in the street under their feet.

The two women, identified as Dr Suzan Kuday Balik and nurse Ozlem Duymaz, had just finished working in a fmaily health centre in the Diyarbakir, south-eastern Turkey.

Footage captured on CCTV shows them walking along the pavement and stopping briefly to talk to each other.

As they are speaking, the pavement suddenly collapses under their feet and they are swallowed into a gaping hole. Huge slabs of concrete break off and appears to fall on top of them, completely covering them in rubble.

They are helped by witnesses who rush over and climb into the hole to pull them to safety. Even though they were buried, both women survived with only minor injuries despite the large amount of debris that covered them.

Officials said that after receiving emergency first aid the women were released with no significant injuries. Police and firefighters who were on the scene have sealed off the area and an investigation has been started into what caused the mysterious sinkhole.
