Rhino Road Rage

This is the terrifying moment an angry rhino suffered a serious case of road rage - and charged straight into a group of tourists trapped inside a car.

Footage of the remarkable incident shows the animal first taking an unusual interest in the Toyota truck parked on a dusty road next to its grassland home.

But this interest quickly turns sinister when the rhino starts trotting towards the jeep - before breaking into a full sprint and ramming it as a group of horrified tourists cower inside.

The footage was taken in Etosha National Park in Namibia by Alexandra Poier, who was sitting inside a nearby car at the time.

The 48-year-old said the group of tourists inside the car escaped from the vehicle unhurt.

The black rhinoceros, which inhabits areas across southern and eastern Africa, is considered endangered and an unknown number of the animals live in the 8,600 sq m Etosha National Park.

Weighing up to 3,100lbs and with an ability to charge at 35mph, they are notorious for their aggression and willingness to run at any object that is unfamiliar.

Artist's Massive Snow Murals Made With His Snowshoes

Some artists use canvas; some use clay. But Simon Beck takes art to grand new heights, literally by creating vast, mesmerizing patterns and images on top of snowy mountains using nothing but snow shoes.

'It started as a bit of fun, but gradually it's taken over my life,' Beck says in a video for Great Big Story. 'A big drawing takes two hours measuring, eight hours drawing... you're looking at 40,000 steps.'

'It's very physical exercise. It's equivalent of a long day's walk in the hills when you make these big drawings,' he says. 'I'm just about the only person in the world doing anything like it.'

It all started in 2004 when Beck, a former orienteering enthusiast and professional mapmaker from the south of England, bought an apartment in France's Les Arcs ski resort.

'It started as a little fun after skiing one evening,' says Beck, explaining that he used to go orienteering and one night used his compass to make a simple design on a frozen lake. But over time his interest grew. And grew. And grew.

'Nowadays I am getting increasingly famous and I intend to maintain my position as world leader in my field.'

New Robot Won't Be Pushed Around By Humans

The next-generation ATLAS robot is here and it’s quieter, smarter and much steadier on its feet – all without those restrictive cables.

Google-owned Boston Dynamics released a video today of the newest iteration of its ATLAS biped robot being harassed by humans as it attempts various tasks including picking up boxes, opening doors and keeping to its feet in the snow.

The apparent bullying by its human overlords, who try to push ATLAS and knock boxes out of its hands, is all in aid of testing its compensatory systems. A bipedal robot has to be able to stay on its feet and/or recover from falls if it’s to be of any use and ATLAS certainly proves its ability to stay standing. The video shows ATLAS taking running steps backwards to keep its balance when it’s shoved by a hockey stick and getting back to its feet when it eventually does fall over.

Rechnitz Makes a Lakewood Boy’s Dream Come True

Philanthropist R’ Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz is taking Chesed to new heights on Sunday night.

A few days ago, a SCHI student, mentioned to his teachers, family and friends his dream of flying to Eretz Yisroel.

Making that dream a reality was no simple matter as there were numerous logistical obstacles in the way. However, a teacher at SCHI – R’Chaim Birnhack- was determined to make it happen. Chaim began working on a budget and the logistics of such a complicated trip. Despite all the obstacles, Chaim knew he had to give his student the trip of a lifetime.

One of the biggest challenges was funding the trip. To raise the necessary funds, Chaim launched a donation website.

R’ Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz heard about the effort to raise money for this trip. He immediately recognized the importance of helping make this student’s dream a reality. R’ Shlomo Yehuda approached a Lakewood Askan with an extremely generous offer…

He would fly the SCHI student to Eretz Yisroel for a ten day trip of a lifetime!

On Sunday night, R’ Shlomo Yehuda, the student, his teacher, Askonim and medical support staff are heading off to Eretz Yisroel, making what was almost an impossible dream into a fabulous reality!!

A Spinning Top Floating Inside a Smoke Filled Bubble

Bubbles, magnetic levitation, and gyroscopes — there’s tons of super-cool DIY physics at work in the Levitron. Created by Dustin Skye, it’s a spinning top floating in mid-air inside a smoke-filled bubble, all for your viewing pleasure.

To create the levitating top, Skye placed a large ring-shaped magnet in a wooden base filled with bubble-making liquid, and a smaller ring-shaped magnet in a small top. The strong magnetic field of the large magnet repels the top, and a gyroscopic effect keeps it stable as it spins. He adapted an e-cigarette cartridge to produce a pure glycerin fog. Then it was just a matter of creating the dome-shaped bubble over the whole shebang. Voila! That’s the magic of science.

Pedestrian Dodges Crashing Truck by Centimetres

A pedestrian has had an incredibly lucky escape following a dramatic crash between a truck and a car.

Footage taken from the dash-cam of a car stopped at traffic lights shows the moment the HGV flies through a red signal at a busy junction and smashes into a passing car. The crash sends both vehicles spinning off into opposite directions - but just as they collide, a man is seen crossing the road in front of the dashcam.

The out-of-control truck hurtles straight towards the pedestrian, who barely has any time to react. Somehow he manages to step deftly past the truck, before diving to safety as it misses him by mere centimetres. The pedestrian is then seen lying on the floor amids the crash debris, shaken but somehow still alive.

The dramatic moment happened in Hwasung, South Korea, earlier this month.

The conditions of the people traveling in the two vehicles involved is unknown.

Ice Stacking Like Shards Of Glass On Lake Superior

A Minnesota photographer captured a dramatic show on Lake Superior last week as massive sheets of ice met the shoreline and shattered.

From The Up-Loader: Lake Superior put on a dramatic show with her recent ice in Duluth, Minnesota. While shooting in Canal Park, I noticed the ice had pulled away from shore and felt the breeze at my back. I anticipated there would be some ice stacking as the massive sheets of ice met the rugged shorelines, so I headed to Brighton Beach. The big lake did not disappoint! The seemingly endless ice sheets broke into large plates and stacked on shore, sounding much like breaking glass. The ice thickness ranged from about 1/4" to about 3" thick. The sights and sounds were incredible!

As the water became exposed, the sea smoke was whisked across the surface by the breeze. The sparkles visible in some segments were from the sun gilding the frost flowers that had formed on top of the new ice overnight -- icing on the cake! I am in awe of and mesmerized by ice stacking (and waves), and spent hours immersed in the sights and sounds of one of my favorite winter occurrences, despite the subzero temperatures and frigid breeze.
