Protest In Beit Shemesh Claims Fraudulent Election

Thousands of people demonstrated in Beit Shemesh on Thursday, October 24 2013. claiming Tuesday’s mayoral election - won by the ultra-Orthodox-backed incumbent by 900 votes over a secular challenger supported by most non-Haredi factions - was rigged. Protesters supporting Eli Cohen, who lost to Mayor Moshe Abutbul, said the election was fraught with forgery cases and violence. Cohen is considering appealing against the results.

Cohen lost to Abutbul by fewer than a thousand votes in an election that some have described as less a political conflict than a religious war. A line of hundreds of cars filled with Cohen supporters stretching for blocks wound its way around Beit Shemesh on Thursday evening, on its way to a rally in front of the municipality. When it passed through the Ramat Beit Shemesh Alef neighborhood, haredim try to stop traffic, and hundreds of ultra-Orthodox Jews lined the road, held back by the police.

Abie Rotenberg Composes Song for Ill Young Man

Avi Silver is a young man (in his early 20’s) who is desperately ill with Yener Machlah. He was diagnosed one year ago and his condition has slowly deteriorated. This morning he was in a crisis situation and although he’s been stabilized, he remains in great danger.

He and his incredible mother have exhibited extraordinary Emunah in Hashem throughout their ordeal and they have been supported by an incredibly involved group of friends in Toronto… as well as the North American community of Jewish Music artists and of course Chai Lifeline.

Avi has had Mordechai Ben David, Baruch Chait, Abie Rotenberg, Yaakov Shwekey, Lipa Shmeltzer, Sheya Mendlowitz and many other renowned performers sing at his bedside. Kumsitzes have been commonplace in their living room – which has become a sort of Mikdash Me’at for T’fila, Bitachon – through the medium of Jewish Music.

A while back Avi was hospitalized and while visiting, Abie Rotenberg offered to write a song in honor of Avi. Avi and Bracha chose the words: ה' שמעה בקולי תהיינה אזניך קשבות לקול תחנוני
(Hashem listen unto my voice, may Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications).

Abie wrote music to those words and an arrangement was crafted by Toronto musician and engineer Eli Woznica. Abie, Baruch Levine, Reb Baruch Chait, Rivie and Eli Schwebel and Shlomo Simcha lent their voices to the recording – which was mixed and mastered last night. This morning it was emailed to the hospital and Avi and Bracha listened to it for the first time.

Why Israel Opposes International Forces

Israel's national ethos is one of self-reliance. International peacekeepers have been proven unreliable in the Middle East in every instance. The Israeli army has been deployed along the steep slopes of the Jordan Valley since 1967, allowing it to thwart terrorist infiltration and deter potential attacks. This critical zone cannot be turned over to international forces with an abysmal track record in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt. Israel must defend itself by itself.
