From the author: "Thanks to Mr. Stuart Wax who organized Reb Shlomo's trip to Russia, we have many hours of high-quality video footage from this tour. If you would like to be part of sponsoring a documentary based on this journey, email us at info@carlebachlegacy.com"
In Leningrad, on this Thursday morning of Sept. 21, 1989, Shlomo arranged for people to be called up to the Torah. People came up with their Russian names, and on the spot, Shlomo would suggest a Jewish name. For some, this was the first time in their lives that they ever heard a Torah reading, and tears rolled down from their eyes. Joel Segal, a San Francisco attorney who joined the tour, exclaimed: “It was amazing… I've never seen such joy and enthusiasm in my entire life.
As the women’s section in the upstairs balcony was crowded, Shlomo asked for the women to come downstairs and sit behind a makeshift mechitza of chairs. Thus you can see the women here at the end of this video coming to kiss the Torah.
At the concert in Leningrad, Reb Shlomo asked the crowd, whom do you think is on this stage? It is not only the band you see here, but all our ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He exhorted his listeners to go out and proudly say hello to everyone on the street. Let all know that we are Jewish. On Motzei Shabbat, September 23, 1989, Shlomo and the band organized an after-midnight Selichot program at the Leningrad Railroad Station.
In a video interview with Zachary Goldman, Shlomo exclaimed: The concerts were “fire, fire,” there was so much holiness. Stuart Wax recalls Shlomo exhorting his entourage before embarking on the trip, “many of our Russian brothers have never smiled before; so few of them have known real joy. It is our mission to make them smile; it is our mission to bring them joy!”
In a report written February 22, 1990 to Abraham Kalikow of the Rich Foundation, David Waksberg summed up the success of Carlebach’s Music Tour: We reached approximately 60,000 Jews in the Soviet Union. We produced a major Jewish cultural event in each city visited by our tour. In Leningrad and in Kiev, Shlomo led services at the synagogue… The tour succeeded not only in content, in bringing Yiddishkeit to Soviet Jews, but in promoting self-help cultural renewal efforts by Soviet Jewry groups.

The Moment PM Rabin Was Shot
Tonight, the 12th of Mar Cheshvan, marks exactly 18 years since the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin on November 4, 1995.
The video below displays the dramatic moments in which the news of Rabin's murder spread, by first being reported to Rav Ovadia Yosef while he delivered his weekly Motzei Shabbos Shiur at the Yazdim Beit Knesset in Jerusalem. Rav Ovadia receives the news in amazement and spontaneously reacts with deep sorrow.
"We heard a very difficult thing, due to our many sins" he interrupts the Shiur and announces in shock. "The prime Minster was assassinated and shot three times." The crowd gasps and reacts in bewilderment. "They say that he is injured" continues Rav Ovadia, "therefor we will now make a Mi Sheberach for him." After concluding the Mi Shebeirach he added" "in our many sins there is baseless hatred... The Torah unifies all Jews."

If the Moon Were at the Same Distance as the ISS
From the author:
"When the Moon eclipses the Sun, the camera exposure is adjusted so that you can see the Light of the earth reflecting back upon the moon. This was actually done by using a stand in Earth model to get reasonably accurate Earth "shine", it is Blue on the left side because the moon is flying over the Gulf of Mexico, and is white/tan on the right side because that part is over the United States . it is Dark in the middle because it is casting a huge shadow, and that shadow does not reflect light back on the Moon. I didn't quite expect it to look like this, it was a nice surprise
At this distance the Moon would rise in the west and set in the east, The Moon Orbits the Earth counterclockwise when viewed from the North pole looking *down*. the same direction that the earth rotates. Normally the Moon orbits much slower than the earth rotates so it rises in the east and sets in the west, however at 420km it orbits much faster, faster than the earth rotates underneath, therefore it will rise in the west and set in the east
The Moon would orbit very fast, somewhere between 130 mins and 90 mins, i'll work this figure out later, it's actually a simple problem, but i'm busy!
the Moon is tidally locked in this animation, even thou it doesn't *seem* like it. The reason for this is that we are Not viewing it from the center of the earth, but rather it's surface
the 420km altitude is measured surface to surface. the center to center orbital distance is 8528km
The time in the video is sped up. the moon would transverse the sky slower.. like 10 mins (rough guess at this time)
The Moon is well within the Roche limit. at this distance the Moon would break up and form a new ring system. The Earth might also be destroyed"

Kever Rochel Imeinu
In late 2000 and often during 2001 and early 2002, there were shooting incidents near the tomb that closed the site for much of that time, once again bringing Jewish visitation to a trickle. The tomb was reopened in about 2003, and a security wall was constructed around its periphery, but few at first made the journey.
Then a Jewish Israeli couple, Rabbi Moshe M. and Mrs. Bluma Kluger, personally intervened. They founded Rachel's Tomb Institute (Mosdos Kever Rachel), a group consisting of the Klugers, and a few volunteers, that has facilitated tens of thousands of visits to the tomb.
Rabbi Kluger engaged in a fund-raising campaign and also took out personal loans to fund five private, bullet-proof buses per weekday that make stops throughout Jerusalem for those wanting to pray at the tomb.
The buses have been running for about 5 years!, and bring in approximately 4,000 people each month. The Israeli public-transportation system restarted service to the area, but many feel more comfortable in bullet-proof busing.

IDF Uncovers Tunnel From Gaza To Israel
The IDF uncovered a massive Hamas attack tunnel leading from Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, into Israel, complete with an electrical supply and phone lines.
The tunnel might have been intended for attacking or kidnapping soldiers, or for moving terrorists from Gaza into Israel to commit an atrocity against civilians in border towns and villages, army sources said Sunday.
It took Hamas over a year to complete, and is tall enough inside to allow people to stand fully upright as they travel along it. The tunnel is buried some 20 meters underground as it crosses the Gaza border. A security source said it was the most well-designed terror tunnel found by the IDF to date. The tunnel was constructed using approximately 24,000 Israeli concrete slabs which the IDF had permitted into Gaza to ease the crisis in the civilian construction sector,
