Interpreter Comments on UN Bias in Hot Mic Gaffe

Nov. 14, 2013 - The United Nations General Assembly, acting through its Fourth Committee, comprised of all 193 UN member states, on Thursday adopted nine resolutions condemning Israel, and none relating to any other country, including contentious states such as Syria or Iran. While most of the diplomats in attendance sat silently, an unlikely voice of protest came from the translator’s booth.

Unaware of the “hot mic” in front of her, the interpreter broadcast her opinion to everyone at the General Assembly: “I mean, I think when you have five statements - not five - like a total of 10 resolutions on Israel and Palestine, there’s gotta be something, c’est un peu trop, non? [It's a bit much, no?] I mean, I know there’s other really bad sh** happening, but no one says anything about the other stuff.”

Many of the delegates laughed, and the interpreter, horrified that her real thoughts had been heard by her employers, apologized.
