This particular Sunday was during the year where the Rebbe was mourning after his wife who had passed away. Hence the dollars were distributed out of the Rebbe's home on President St in Crown Heights, as opposed to 770 Eastern Parkway where it would regularly take place.

Swastikas Found Painted Across Borough Park

The hate graffiti littered the area around 16th Avenue and 46th Street, with swastikas painted on a school, a synagogue, a minivan, a deli and a supermarket, among other places. Surveillance video indicates that the damage was done around 2:30 a.m. and was the work of at least two young men who police say were clearly seen on the tape scrawling the graffiti. Detectives have seized the video and are working feverishly to identify the suspects.
"I never saw this happen in all my life," Borough Park resident Menachem Ben-Simcha said. "I pray in here. I'm here for services every day. It reminds you of the second World War." No arrests were immediately made.

Hasidic NYPD Recruit Says he was Fired Over Beard

New York (CNN) -- A Hasidic NYPD recruit is planning a lawsuit after being dismissed for refusing to trim his beard for religious reasons, his attorney said Sunday.

Fishel Litzman, 38, was asked to leave the police academy on Friday, his attorney, Nathan Lewin, told CNN. He began the police academy in January, he said, was in the top 1% of his classes and is "highly regarded" by his peers. The dismissal, Lewin said, is a clear example of "religious discrimination." "We are planning to bring a lawsuit," the attorney said. "This should not be a practice of the NYPD." Click Here for more.

Lipa "Hang Up The Phone" Official Music Video

In a futuristic take on his song Hang Up The Phone from his album Leap of Faith,  Lipa Schmeltzer teams up with producer and director Danny Finkelman to tackle our generation's ever growing infatuation with gadgets head on, in a music video that is equal parts science fiction and practical advice for today's technologically obsessed society. Hang Up The Phone is an original Lipa composition and the sixth track on the newly released Leap of Faith album, with hard hitting lyrics in both English and Yiddish, written by Lipa.

At just over six minutes long, the video offers a light hearted look at what we become when we spend more time interacting with our electronics than with our families and the people around us.

A SparksNext Production, Finkelman and cinematographer Mauricio Arenas breathe life into Hang Up The Phone, creating a presentation that will hopefully inspire viewers to strike the necessary balance, enabling them to take advantage of today's technology in a responsible manner.
