Satmar's Battle Of Satmar’s Armories

VinNews - This year’s 67th annual 21 Kislev celebration of the miraculous Holocaust rescue of Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum, zt"l (1886-1979), founding Satmar Rebbe and author of Divrei Yoel, will be celebrated all over the world on Motzaei Shabbos Vayeshev, December 17. On that day in history, Thursday, December 4, 1944, the Satmar Rebbe was aboard a train that crossed the border into Switzerland and to freedom. The deliverance was made possible by Dr. Rudolf Kastner, who bribed the Nazis and thus saved 1,685 Jewish souls.

Throughout the years the 21 Kislev event was always a unifying occasion as Satmar chassidim from around the world sat together and held hands singing and dancing. However, with Satmar currently divided, two separate celebrations are held. Each half of Satmar is led by a son of the Beirach Moshe and represents an independent network of communities, shuls, yeshivas, girls’ schools, meat stores, matzah bakeries, and cemeteries throughout the world.

The followers of Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum, Satmar Rebbe and oldest son of the Beirach Moshe, will be conducting their central 21 Kislev event at the New York State National Guard Armory in Crown Heights. The followers of Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, Satmar Rebbe and third son of the Beirach Moshe, will be marking the event at The Williamsburg Marcy Armory.

Although he called this “the biggest transformation of his life,” Matisyahu assured his fans that he is still an observant Jew, and pointed out that the very next morning after removing his beard he went to the Mikvah and Davened Shachris with a Minyan. He said his wife and kids, who are in California, did not yet see him without his facial hair.

The Baal Hatanya's Niggun Daled Bavos

In honor of Yud Tes Kislev or YA"T Kislev, the Chag Hageulah of the Baal Hatanya, we present The Niggun "Daled Bavos" sung at the Lubavitcher Rebbe's Farbrengin on 19 Kislev 5744/1983 in 770 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY.

This day marks the anniversary of the liberation, in 5559 (1798), of the Alter Rebbe, founder of Chabad Chasidus, from his imprisonment in Petersburg, Russia, after being denounced by his opponents for his activities on behalf of Chasidus.  The 19th of Kislev therefor symbolizes the victory of the Chassidic movement, especially of Chabad, which since then began to take root and spread throughout the Jewish world.

Michael Coren: Newt Gingrich is Right

White House hopeful Newt Gingrich weathered a pummeling by rivals who attacked the Republican frontrunner's conservative credentials, marital infidelities and a provocative remark about Palestinians.

But the former House speaker coolly defended his most controversial views in a feisty debate Saturday night, including a recent remark calling Palestinians an "invented people," while conceding that voters will have to decide whether he is fit to be president.

Polls this week show Gingrich with a significant lead over Romney, who had been seen as having the party's best chance of beating Obama in 2012 despite his inability to win over the party's conservative base.

Michael Coren of the Canadian Sun News Network.

When slammed by his rivals for saying in an interview with the Jewish Television network (embedded at the bottom of this story) that the Palestinians were an "invented people," Gingrich refused to back down.

"The Palestinian claim to a right of return is based on a historically false story," he insisted, adding: "These people are terrorists. They teach terrorism in their schools."

"I think sometimes it is helpful to have a president of the United States with the courage to tell the truth," Gingrich said. "Just as it was when [Ronald] Reagan went around his entire national security apparatus to call the Soviet Union an evil empire."

Matisyahu on TV Show Throws a Party

The following is from Jason Miller of the JTA.org:

I had never heard of the reality TV cooking show "Chef Roble and Co." when a friend texted Sunday night and ordered me to turn on the Bravo channel.

What I found was Chef Roble Ali trying to prepare a meal for the Chasidic reggae singer Matisyahu and a few dozen of his guests before he left for several months on tour this summer. The episode was titled "Babysitter in the Kitchen," which referred to the mashgiach, or kosher supervisor, from the OK Kosher certification agency.

Chef Roble not only had to prepare strictly kosher meals for Matisyahu and his guests, but the menu also had to be Thai and vegan. And he had to please not only Matisyahu but his wife, Tahlia Miller, who doesn't appear to be as strictly vegan as her husband, and mother-in-law.

Below is a video clip from the show.

It is unusual for such intricacies of hashgachah, or kosher supervision, to be publicized on television in such detail. The OK Kosher mashgiach explained that only he could light the stoves, but once the pilot light was lit the chef could adjust the flame. However, the mashgiach never provided a reason for this -- it's because of "bishul akum," the prohibition on having a non-Jew cook food for Jews. Click Here the rest of the article.

Bear in the city

A young black bear went for the ride of his life Monday afternoon after a dump truck operator unwittingly chauffeured him from North Vancouver to Downtown Vancouver, Canada, By the time the conservation officer arrived a crowd of spectators had gathered.  Police had set up a large containment area around the truck, on top of which the terrified bear had climbed, looking for a way to get down. Officers shot him with a tranquilizer dart, but it didn't work, so he eventually jabbed him with a syringe on a pole.

Menorah Not Welcome At Colorado Recreation Center

Evergreen, CO - A recent decision banning a menorah display at a key Evergreen community building has sparked a debate over holiday decorations in the small mountain district. From 2005 to 2009, the menorah was displayed in December on the back of the Lake House. But the Evergreen Park & Recreation District decided that the symbol cannot be put up this year.

Some members of Evergreen’s Jewish community aren’t ready to end the debate because a large tree, adjacent to the community’s popular hub, remains adorned with Christmas lights. The colored lights on a tree are not considered by the governing bodies to be religiously affiliated. The argument is further complicated by the arm’s-length relationship between the city and county of Denver — owners of the Lake House since the early 1900s — and the property’s manager, the Evergreen district. Newt Gingrich on Israel - Says it the Way it is!

Republican candidates talk about Israel at the Republican Debate on Saturday night December 10, 2011. In this video the candidates are asked specifically about Republican Presidential Primary front-runner and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich's "Palestinians are an invented people" quote.
I think Perry scored some serious points there. Seems he want's to be Newt's VP choice, should Gingrich be the nominee.
