After 5 Years: Gilad Schalit Back in Israel

Freed Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit has arrived at an air base in central Israel for an eagerly awaited reunion with his family. Schalit landed at Tel Nof air base on board a military helicopter. His parents, Noam and Aviva, have led an emotional campaign to win their son’s release for the past five years. They have led nationwide marches and set up a protest tent outside the official residence of the prime minister. Earlier Tuesday, Hamas militants in Gaza freed Schalit in a swap for more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.

Gilad arrives in Israel and Meets Israeli PM Netanyahu and his father.

Ahead of the reunion, Schalit switched out of civilian clothes given to him by Hamas and into an Israeli military uniform

A fair trade. 1,000 cowards and terrorists for one honourable man. I hope those "palestinians" feel real good today about how much they are valued!

My 2 cents.....the overwhelming imbalance of the exchange will be the starting point for any future negotiations. The militants will be declaring a victory beyond their imagination.....this will only fuel Hamas to capture an Israeli solder in the future as a bargaining chip.

The Palestinans may be happy to get 1000 people in exchange for 1, but the Israelis are telling the world that 1 Israeli life = 1000 Palestinian lives.

Israel did for one of it's soldier's what we americans would have done for one of our soldier's. That is why Israel is our ally and friend.

Baruch HaShem for one freed Jew. But if Netanyahu had more courage and a Torah point of view, he would take the offensive, despite what the anti-semitic world has to say, and punish the murderers in a way befitting their crimes. We can only imagine the pain and shock and utter abandonment felt by the families of victims of terrorism now set free to repeat their crimes, h'as v'shalom. The only democratic government in the world to abandon its people, may G-d have mercy on us all.

It's a great mitzvah to redeem a captive, and how much greater to redeem all our captives? Where is King David when we need him? Instead we have a PM (a king) who tries to 'reason and negotiate' with the Arabs; he would have better luck visiting the zoo. Master politician garnering applause of the U.S. and Obama for being a humanitarian, maybe he'll win the Nobel Prize for Peace. And if he does, it will be worth hearing his acceptance speech, and maybe they'll broadcast it over the graves of our dead and in the hospitals of our terrorism survivors, mangled and scarred for life....

Why do the Hamas prisoners look so well fed while the Israeli looks like a concentration camp survivor?

This exchange does not seem to make much sense from the Israeli side. the only thing I can think of is that the Israelis were tired of footing the bill for feeding and housing all of the Palestinians. Otherwise, trading 1027 to get one man back seems a little bit absurd.
