Scammers Arrested in Williamsburg

On a Thursday afternoon, a woman contacted Williamsburg Shomrim, reporting she had been scammed out of $13,000 by someone posing as a U.S. Marshal.

The scammer threatened her with arrest over a fake warrant and convinced her to hand over the money in person.

Shomrim’s IT team quickly jumped into action — gathering surveillance footage and capturing a license plate,

By July 22, a second meeting was arranged with the scammer under the pretense of delivering more cash.

Working closely with the NYPD’s 79th Precinct, a sting operation was set.

When the scammer arrived to collect the envelope, officers moved in and made the arrest.

A job well done — great teamwork by Shomrim and the NYPD!
