All They Want is to Live Out Their Final Years with Dignity

undefined

That morning, I was sitting there by my window, just gazing outside.

Just like I’d sat the day before, and the day before and the day before that.

Just like I’ve done every day now for years.

Gazing outside into a bright, sunny world.

A world abounding with light and joy and life.

I see children playing, running, laughing.

I watch mothers pushing baby strollers, fathers hurrying off to work.

Everyone is going about their busy, happy lives.

And only I am alone.

I’ve been alone for so long already. From morning to night, I’m my own company.

No one calls, no one ever visits.

I chose to immigrate to Israel after the War, because I remained alone.

My family’s souls had ascended in the fires of Auschwitz. My town had been razed to the earth.

undefined

I came here determined to rebuild, to start life anew.

Little did I dream that I’d be alone here in Israel too.

My husband passed away many years ago, and we were never blessed with children.

The tortures I endured during those cursed years robbed me of my capacity to bear a child.

Long ago, I made peace with the fact that I would end my life like this.

Alone. Lonely.

Childless. Anonymous.

By now, I also know that my end is no longer so far off, and I’m at peace with that too.

Perhaps, my suffering and loneliness will finally reach their blessed end.

But that morning, something in my life changed.

There was a knock at the door.

My heart leaped in time to the knock.

I struggled to my feet, even as I knew that whoever was at the door had come my mistake,

And that he’d soon be gone.

Another person in and out of my life, fleeting as the wind.

Because no one ever visits.

But I was wrong.

Wrong about the visitor, and wrong about their mistake.

And it wasn’t just one person; it was two.

Two beautiful young ladies from Beit Chabad La’Noar.

Two smiling young women who exuded joy, effervescence, warmth and compassion.

One of them asked me, “Are you Mrs. Rosen? Can we come in?”

I invited them inside, and was surprised by the delicious smell of fresh food that entered together with them.

I haven’t smelled such delicious food in years.

I have no one to cook for, so I eat mostly canned goods, and an occasional meal that the neighbor kindly sends.

undefined

But these two young women—two angels—smiled at me and promised me:

“Mrs. Rosen, you’re not alone anymore.

“From now on, we’ll come visit. We’ll bring you food and anything you need.”

They asked me if I’m missing anything. Is there anything I need?

Am I missing anything? Is there something I need?

There is so much missing in my life that I didn’t know where to start.

I’m missing friends and company. I’m missing someone to help me go shopping. I’m missing someone to take me to the doctor.

undefined

Tears rose to my eyes, but these beautiful young women comforted me and promised me that, from now on, things would be different.

I smiled, and realized that it was the first time I’d smiled in years.

The next few months were the happiest ones I’ve known in years.

Every day, I wait eagerly for the weekly visit from “my Beit Chabad LaNoar” girls.

Instead of praying to reunite with my husband in heaven, I’ve begun praying again to live to see another day, just so I can enjoy their company...

The above is an excerpt from a letter sent by the elderly Mrs. Rosen to Beit Chabad LaNoar, a letter expressing her joy, gratitude and renewed will to live…

Yet what poor Mrs. Rosen and dozens of other elderly and lonely senior citizens are unaware of is that the joy, relief and highlight of their latter years is on the verge of collapse…

All the gifts and generosity that they’ve enjoyed throughout the past months might end suddenly due to lack of funding.

Until today, Beit Chabad LaNoar, which supports and gives strength to hundreds of senior citizens and Holocaust survivors in Israel, has been funded privately by private donors. We’re inundated with calls from senior citizens and their acquaintances who are aware of their needs, and we can’t bear to turn a single one away. Yet as our activities continually expand, our coffers empty and the deficit balloons…

Still, we can’t bring ourselves to halt our sacred activities! We must continue supporting and assisting our seniors!

We’ve reached the point that we’ve borrowed more than we can repay, and we can’t continue funding our monthly activities. Without an urgent influx of funds to cover our debts and regular donations to finance our daily, weekly and monthly activities, Beit Chabad LaNoar will be forced to close its doors…

You have the power to change all that!

With your gift, you can help cover the costs of food, medication, clothing and heating for elderly Jews in Israel.

These remarkable men and women are abounding with so much wisdom. They each have a unique story to share. And they all have one wish:

To live out the rest of their lives with dignity, peace of mind and happiness.

Join us in giving them this gift of life and happiness, and may you always be among the givers!

Zanvil Weinberger Sings at Colel Chabad Event

Shuli Rand "Growing Pains"

כאבי גדילה

Abi Beilis Debut Single "Misod"

Singer and baal tefillah, Abi Beilis, has been singing and serving as a baal tefillah for the last seventeen years. He comes from a very musical family, with not one, but three musical sisters. Each of the three has had their hands in popular camp/school songs, production and dances over the last two decades and he has soaked up all that musicality.

Abi had a great uncle who was a chazzan for many years, who always imparted some tips for singing and davening, often giving Abi the upper hand. Beilis is also fortunate to daven in a chassidishe shul where there are many phenomenal Baalei Tefila on Yom Tov. He has learned much of his technique from them as well. His formal training, though, began at the age of twenty, when a musical friend recognized his talent and told him he needed to learn how to use it. That was how Abi’s longtime relationship with the famed Rabbi Avraham Aaron Weingarten, vocal coach and voice teacher to the stars began. Abi has been going to Rabbi Weingarten for seventeen years, and has been carefully honing his craft.

As a baal tefillah, Abi loves yomim noroim davening. The words of Misod Chachomim U’nevoinim always spoke to him. Remember where we came from, from the source of earlier tzaddikim who know how to converse properly with Hashem. Rabbi Weingarten and Abi discussed last year, how they wish there was a song that could convey the importance of the words and their meaning, a little more than the typical nussach. Avraham Aaron started to play around with the words and hummed a tune. It wasn't long before they had a full-fledged song. Interestingly enough, Rabbi Weingarten has another client who comes for voice lessons, famed composer, singer and producer Yitzy Waldner. The two spoke and it wasn’t long before Yitzy took on production of Weingarten’s song with Abi as the vocalist.

Presenting Abi Beilis in his debut song “Misod”, a moving song to help you prepare for Yom Hadin and bring you closer to speaking to Hashem. Like the verse says “Eftecho Pi”- help us open our mouth so our tefillos will be sweet and accepted by Hashem.

May we all merit a Shana Tova U’mesuka and the geula sheleima bekarov.

Every Action has an Effect - R' Shea Rubenstein

Impact of a Smile

In this week's episode of "Inspiration with Reb Shea," he shows us the importance of being nice to everyone; even people we dont know. It can truly change the trajectory of a person's life.

When Chani, his daughter, was a counselor at Agudah Midwest, she enthusiastically greeted campers as they exited the bus. The first camper she greeted made it a point to say that Chani is not her counselor. Not detered, Chani was quick to reply that none the less, she was happy to see her and that she knows she will have a great summer.

Seven years later, Chani was approached by this girl at an event and the girl related how Chani's warm greeting gave her the confidence to enjoy the summer despite being a newcomer to the camp. She also said that when she became a counselor herself she made it a point to make everyone feel comfortable.

We never know how a simple smile or greeting can change another person's life.

Beri Weber - Chag Sameach

We all know that feeling of satisfaction when you find yourself filling up a cup of wine after a long day or week of achievements and good news. It’s the thing that spurs you to go visit a family member or friend to share your recent successes…. It’s the moment when you spontaneously pick up a phone to express your gratitude for someone… The overwhelming sensation that surrounds you when you are at a wedding, Bar Mitzvah, Bris, Kiddush, or any Simcha with your loved ones….. That indescribable feeling is what we call a celebration!

This music video showcases some of the great celebrations in life, like a Bar Mitzvah, a wedding, closing a business deal, etc., but the highlight by far is the joy of being a Jew!

A few months ago, I had the privilege to sing my new song CHAG SAMEACH in the center of Times Square in NYC, arguably the crossroads of the world, with upwards of half a million people visiting daily. The event was put together by Chabad C-Teens, an organization that brings together thousands of Jewish teens from close to 50 countries worldwide, to introduce them to their roots and teach them the beauty of Yiddishkeit. This concert gives them the opportunity to dance, sing, and yell out שמע ישראל ה` אלוקינו ה`אחד!

Shneor Orel - Shir HaGeula

Twenty Five year old French native singer and recording artist Shneor Orel has been performing at events and simchas across the globe, bringing his special vocal performance to enhance each and every event. After releasing four covers songs, each boasting over 10k Youtube views, he is now ready to enter the arena of releasing original music with his debut single.

While everyone is releasing ballads for Elul and the upcoming Yamim Nora'im, Shneor wanted to sing and dance about the coming Geula. That is the topic of his single Shir HaGeula, what we all wait for and yearn for. This golus has been long and bitter and we anxiously await a time when we can sing and dance over the redemption and the coming of Moshiach. For Shneor, as a Chabad Chassid, this song is very personal. “There are times where people are going through troubles and tribulations,” says Shneor. “It’s also about a personal Geula, when you finally see the light and that there is an end to our personal darkness. Shir Hageula is to remind us that there is always an end to the suffering and hard times and better times are ahead of us. After all, says Shneor, the Lubavitcher Rebbe always encouraged us to ask and wait for the imminent Geula."
