"Please Help My Parents Pay for My Transplant"

Moishy’s emotional letter: "Please help my parents pay for my transplant".

Hi,

My name is Moishy. I’m 6½ and learn in 2nd grade.

I was born with a rare liver condition, and I have to take tons of yucky medicines and drops every day. They taste really bad, but I know that they’re keeping me alive, so a long time ago, I learned to just swallow them without saying anything.

In the last month, I heard lots of whispers about my “condition dee-tee-ree-or-ating. I don’t know exactly what it means, but I’ve been feeling really sick lately, and I know that my liver isn’t working anymore and that I need to have a liver transplant fast.

Everyone is careful not to talk around me, but I know that without the transplant, I’m going to die.

A liver transplant is the only thing that can keep me alive!

My mommy told me that after my transplant, I’ll come home healthy again! It’s not really again, because I was never healthy to begin with, so now—for the first time—I’m going to be healthy! I’ll finally be strong like all my friends, and no one will laugh at me anymore that I’m fat. I’m not really fat, it’s just that my body—and especially my stomach—are bloated with fluid and medicines.

Mommy also told me that after the transplant, I won’t have to take all those medicines in the morning. I also won’t throw up so much, and I’ll be like everyone else. I’ll be healthy, normal, with energy to run and jump and play. I’ve always dreamed of being healthy, and now, there’s finally a chance that it’s going to come true.

I was thrilled, and I thought that my parents would be thrilled too, which is why I didn’t get why my mommy has been crying so much lately. Every time she looks at me, she gets this sad, wistful look, and her eyes fill with tears. A few times, I woke up at night to feel her sitting on my bed, stroking me. Her tears wet my cheeks.

I didn’t understand why? Why wasn’t Mommy happy?

Last night, I found out why.

I woke up to get a drink, and I heard Mommy on the phone with my grandmother. She said that they’ve already used up all their savings, and that it could be that I won’t be able to have the transplant because they can’t afford it.

And then she said that she can’t stop looking at me, because she’s not sure how much time I have left to live if I don’t have the transplant.

Please! If you’re reading this, I need your help! I don’t want to die. I just started learning Chumash, and I want to have a 7 year old birthday. I have lots of friends and greatest brothers and sisters and grandparents, and the best, best, best parents in the world who love me so much, and they’re all be so sad if I die.

Think for a minute. What if I was your kid? Wouldn’t you do everything to save me? Wouldn’t you want people to help so I could have a transplant, so I could live?

So now think of my parents, and think of my family and friends, and think of me—Moishy.   I’m asking you from the bottom of my heart.  I really don’t want to die.

Please help my parents pay for my transplant! Even if you can’t give a lot, I’m sure you can give something! Maybe your donation will be the one that makes it possible for me to have the surgery, and… Live!

Bonai Chavivei 2022 Highlights

Bonai Chavivai is a program adapted from the world-famous Vhaarev Na program, geared towards boys approaching their bar mitzvah, to encourage them to learn and know a masechta in honor of their bar mitzvah.

Through this program, boys who are just beginning to learn gemara develop an appreciation for the importance of chazara and knowing a masechta “in the bones.” With the haskama of their rebbi and menahel, they choose a masechta suitable for them, and learn it during their free time, guided and motivated by the Bonai Chavivai staff of handpicked rebbeim. The goal is not to finish, but to know, to have the masechta “go through you, not just to go through the masechta.”

Beginning just a few years ago with a handful of boys in Monsey, Bonai Chavivai has since spread to Lakewood, Brooklyn, Far Rockaway, Passaic, Baltimore, Florida and Los Angeles. The success of Bonai Chaviai has been its own advertisement, leading to exponential growth year after year.

It was on that Motzei Shabbos that over 1,100 boys and fathers flocked to The Atrium Ballroom in Monsey for the Annual Melava Malka and Siyum to celebrate together in an evening of chizuk and simchas Hatorah. The evening began with a seder, during which the boys and their fathers filled the chuppah room wall-to-wall to grab another opportunity for chazara.

"Hold On Tight" feat. Benny Friedman & Baruch Levine

Help us reach 50,000 Women Around the World

They used to wait alone.
Couples.
Husbands and wives.
When would they merit a child of their own?
Their silent hopes and whispered prayers ascended to the One Above.
But a few years ago, suddenly, there was a movement.
A movement that brought people together.
In short order, the couples were no longer waiting alone. They were now waiting with 40,000
women, who davened for them every week as they stood in front of the flickering candles on
Erev Shabbos, offering prayers from the heart while also each contributing $1 to tzedakah every
week in their merit.
Celebrating the two year anniversary of this worldwide effort, bringing Yidden together in unity and prayer, Bonei Olam released a remarkable, stirring new song that depicts the
dreams that lie in the hearts of these couples, the achdus generated by the Vezakeini project, and
the idea that in a world that is often lonely and challenging, Klal Yisroel is waiting – and hoping
– together, as one.

Because together, we are stronger.
And so are our tefillos.
For those waiting for shidduchim, refuos, and other yeshuos, the message is the same.
Klal Yisroel is waiting together, in unity.
And we wait, we hope, and we pine – together - for the ultimate yeshuah with Moshiach’s
arrival.
Because, as the song describes, together, our cries our stronger.

Please Give Shimmy the Chance to Live!

Shimmy is too young to die!
One treatment can save his life!
Please give him the chance to live!

I’m writing you with a bleeding, broken heart, hoping and praying that my words—which come straight from the heart—will penetrate yours.

My name is Gitty, and I’m Shimmy’s mommy. Shimmy is only 1½, and he was born with a rare congenital heart defect. The doctors told us that he’d be lucky if he made it through the night... But he did, and many nights afterward.

My husband and I resolved that, no matter what, we wouldn’t lose hope. We’d keep praying and give everything we have to let our baby live!

We used every penny of our savings and borrowed money from family and friends to cover the cost of open-heart surgery. Unfortunately, the surgery was only partly successful, and his situation rapidly deteriorated. Shimmy is now paralyzed on the left side of his body and in critical condition. Only an expensive, life-saving surgery in Boston can save his life.

I’m turning to you personally with the tearful cry of a mother who’s done everything she can and given her all to save her baby’s life. I never imagined that I’d turn to strangers for help, but my child’s life is worth everything! The costs of the surgery and treatment are enormous, and while we’ve raised the majority, we’re still $100,000 short.

$100,000 will decide if Shimmy undergoes surgery.

$100,000 that can save my baby’s life.

Please open your hands and your heart to save Shimmy’s heart! I won’t be able to live with myself knowing that Shimmy didn’t receive the treatment he desperately needed simply because we couldn’t afford it.

I can’t afford to lose him! I don’t want him to remain paralyzed for the rest of his life!

We aren’t asking for luxuries, only for life for our child! Partner with us in saving Shimmy!

The Sweetest Video of the Year!

Gefen's new sweetener, Harmony.

THE JEWISH MUSIC HALL OF FAME SHOW

Unless you have been in deep hibernation for the past month, you have probably seen advertisements for the upcoming Jewish Music Hall of Fame Show, presented by Makor Care and Services Network. In an era where we are bombarded by an onslaught of hyperbole, stimuli, advertising, and entertainment, it can be hard to distinguish between real quality and plain hype. It’s a world of ‘been there, done that.’

But sometimes something big comes along, something really huge and epic, an event that grabs the attention of even the most jaded. The Jewish Music Hall of Fame Show is a one-of-a-kind mega event - you do not want to miss this one.

The legendary Sheya Mendlowitz, master of grand events and the original producer of quality musical performances has graciously agreed to produce this unique event. The show will benefit Makor, a comprehensive network of support, services, and care for individuals of all ages with physical or intellectual disabilities.

To Sheya Mendlowitz, this event is like a dream come true.

“I have always felt that there should be a Hall of Fame honoring the immortal composers and artists of Jewish Music,” says Sheya. “They aren’t just entertainers – they are part of the fabric of our Yiddishkeit. Their songs uplift us, they add to our davening and Shabbos tables, and even our children are still getting inspiration from their music.”

So, which performers will the Jewish Music Hall of Fame Show feature?
“That would be like telling someone what’s inside his gift-wrapped birthday present before he gets it,” smiles Sheya. “It’s more exciting when it’s a surprise. So, I’m not about to divulge the names, but you can believe me that this will be a Who’s Who of Jewish Music. No matter what your preference may be, you will find it onstage that night!”

Tickets to the February 27th event have been selling quickly as the excitement and momentum are mounting. The added incentive of supporting a worthy organization like Makor has prompted many individuals and corporations to sponsor the event at various levels.

Makor, formerly known as Women’s League, has been providing a full range of professional services and loving care to our community’s most vulnerable individuals for more than 40 years. As a true non-profit organization, Makor accepts even the most challenging situations that other agencies are unable to. Makor’s broad range of professional services addresses all ages and stages, from infancy to senior years.

“They are an unbelievable group,” says Sheya. “There is so much love and dedication that goes on in that organization – it’s a privilege for me to do this event for Makor.”

Tickets can be purchased by calling 347-304-0180 or online
