The effect of Covid-19 is a lot more far-reaching than we might think. A team at Columbia Presbyterian, one of New York City's largest hospitals, found that many of the Covid-19 patients they admitted developed kidney failure. Dialysis gives these patients a brief lease on life, but it is a short-term band-aid and not a long-term solution. 70% are no longer alive after five years of the treatment. To return to health, these patients will need a kidney transplant.
