Catering Cart Goes Wild

A cart went wild at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, spinning in circles and narrowly avoiding a parked airplane, after a case of bottled water hit the gas pedal, on September 30.

The catering cart spun in circles until an airport worker quickly intervened, using a piece of heavy equipment to stop the cart. The cart tipped on its side, spilling its contents.

“Case of water fell off the seat in the unmanned cart, landing on the accelerator pedal. Hero comes out of nowhere with the only safe option. Not only was it a safe way to handle it, she avoided millions in damage to that aircraft,” Kevin Klauer told Storyful. Klauer took the video from a nearby airport terminal.

American Airlines issued a statement to local news, saying: “American Airlines is investigating an incident involving a catering truck this afternoon at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. Preliminary reports indicate that the accelerator became stuck and caused the catering cart to lose control. No American Airlines team members were injured and the incident resulted in one 10 minute flight delay. We appreciate the quick action of our team member who stopped the vehicle. Safety is our top priority and we are working with our partners to investigate the incident.”
