US Navy Blue Angels Perform Gut-wrenching Aerobatics

This is the incredible moment US flight demonstration squadron the Blue Angels perform twists and tricks over Seattle.

The Blue Angels, the world's second oldest flight demonstration team, entertained crowds at the Boeing Seafair Air Show in Seattle at 3pm on Saturday, August 3.

Footage filmed inside the cockpit of one of the Boeing F/A-18 Hornet jets shows a pilot operating the control stick as he turns 180 degrees and starts flying upside down.

Some five planes keep in tight formation as they fly above Seattle's, at times deploying white smoke to make patterns in white across the blue sky.

The video, by Petty Officer 2nd Class Jess Gray, gives an amazing insight in to the view from the cockpit of a jet as it performs tricks.

At one point, while flying upside down for around 30 seconds, the pilot shows their skill and looks completely unperturbed.

The Blue Angels have been performing since 1946, and are the second oldest demonstration squadron. The French Patrouille de France, the world's oldest, formed in 1931.

The squadron perform aerial displays every year in at least 60 shows in 30 locations in the US. And since they were formed in 1946 the various Blue Angels teams have flown in front of 505 million spectators.
