Man Crawling out of Burning Plane after Crash

Harrowing footage has captured the moment the teenage sole survivor of a Detroit plane crash that left his parents dead managed to roll from the burning wreckage and stumble to safety.

The single-engine plane, which was carrying three people, was en route from Arkansas to Coleman A. Young International Airport on Sunday Evening when it apparently struck a power line and tree.

It crashed in a vacant lot just feet away from homes before bursting into flames.

Police said a 54-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman perished in the fiery crash, but the couple's 17-year-old son miraculously survived.

Footage shot by witnesses showed the young man desperately trying to free himself from the wreckage. At first he could be seen struggling to squeeze through one of the windows as the plane door became engulfed in flames. After several seconds, he was forced to go through the flames and commando roll out of the plane.

The survivor, who was the pilot, stumbled to safety with burns clearly visible on his arms.

Detroit police Captain Mark Thornton said the survivor remained in a critical condition in hospital. He credited 'courageous citizens' for helping to rescue the man.
