Two Emperor penguins in Antarctica got in on the Instagram trend of taking selfies when they knocked over a camera and filmed themselves.
The scene was captured at the Auster Rookery, the name given for a colony of breeding birds, home to thousands of breeding penguins, near Australia’s Mawson research station. Australian Antarctic explorer, Eddie Gault, left his camera on the ice while visiting the rookery when the birds seized the opportunity to immortalise their hijinks on film.
“It didn’t take long for the naturally curious birds to seize the opportunity for a selfie,” said the Australian Antarctic Division.
The division works in the Antarctic to conduct research in order to advance Australia's environmental and economic interests.
