Scuffles broke out between Israeli police and ultra-orthodox protesters in the city of Bnei Brak on Monday, March 12 2018 as part of the latest protests against military drafts in their community.
Police dispersed protesters blocking the vital Highway 4 and were seen dragging protesters who refused to move from the ground.
This is the latest in a series of protests demanding the exemption of ultra-orthodox young men from joining the Israeli army, in the wake of multiple arrests of men for dodging military service during the past months.
Military service in Israel is compulsory for all men and women who are 18 years old, but when the country was established in 1948, its first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion allowed 400 ultra-Orthodox Jews to avoid compulsory service to study the Torah.
In September 2017, Israel's Supreme Court ruled that exemptions for ultra-Orthodox Jews were unconstitutional.
