Israel Offers Aid to Iran Following Earthquake

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel has offered aid to the victims of the earthquake that left hundreds of people dead in Iran.

Netanyahu made the offer in a video conference with the Jewish Federations of North America, arguing that while the governments of Israel and Iran have no diplomatic relations, Israel was still willing to give help the Iranian people.

The earthquake, which struck near the Iranian-Iraqi border, killed more than 400 people, injured hundreds and left thousands without homes.

Netanyahu said the offer was made through the International Committee of the Red Cross and Israeli media reported that Iran promptly turned it down.

Neither Iran and Iraq recognize Israel’s right to exist.

Iran’s conservative elite regularly threatens Israel with destruction and Israeli leaders have long warned about Tehran’s ambitions to develop a nuclear weapon.

A landmark nuclear agreement signed with world powers in July 2015 saw crippling sanctions on the Iranian economy lifted in return for a pulling back of its nuclear programme. Israel has still railed against the deal, arguing that it hands the Iranian regime hundreds of millions of dollars back in frozen assets it can use to fund proxy groups in the Middle East.

Stranger Saves Blind Man From Walking in Front of Train

Rarely is RTD’s Peoria Station in Aurora populated with stragglers.

It’s busy, full of shuffling feet transferring light rail lines to and from work.

On Monday, there was an exception as at least one man wasn’t coming or going. He was staying, asking people one simple question.

“Have you seen the young man who saved my life last Thursday?” Mike Wyatt of Aurora asked.

Wyatt is in his 60s. He’s blind, but has the spirit and heart of a man who has seen all the good in the world. “I am so stoked right now thinking that guy is going to come down that ramp [from the platform],” he said with an anticipatory look on his face.

Wyatt doesn’t know the man he is looking for. He doesn’t know his name, his height, or when he usually takes the train. All Wyatt knows is the man pulled him off the RTD tracks when a train was approaching on Thursday, Nov. 9, just in time to move him out of the way.

“You live and you die,” Wyatt said. “It's what you do in between, and this young man did a great thing for me and that's what I want to say to him ‘thank you.’”

RTD security footage shows Mike approaching the R Line tracks with the cane he uses to guide him. Just as he reaches the tracks, a man runs up behind him, grabbing his arms and moving him safely to the sidewalk. About 5 seconds pass before the R Line train comes through.

“Wow,” Wyatt said holding back tears. “It really feels like someone is watching over me. That’s good. That’s really good.” Wyatt says he plans to come to Peoria Station one more time in hopes of finding the man who helped him.

“I will be always remembering this man and his kindness,” he said.

Wyatt says the man has afforded him a chance to watch his seven grandchildren grow up.

Amazing Double Dutch Rope Skipping Skills

An 11-year-old Chinese boy has wowed the judges with his eye-opening rope-skipping skills in a recent competition.

Footage shows Huang Junkai jumping 129 times in 30 seconds in a Double Dutch game last week.

Huang won two titles in the categories of speed and performance during the international contest held in Shanghai.

The impressive Huang Junkai holds a Guinness World Record for the most double-dutch style skips made in 30 second.

Double Dutch rope skipping means that two long ropes are turned in opposite directions simultaneously while one or more players are jumping.

Lion Pounces on ZAKA Chairman

The founder and director of Israel’s rescue and recovery volunteer organization ZAKA, Yehuda Meshi Zahav, was knocked to the ground on Wednesday when he was attacked by a lioness during a tour in South Africa.

Guides and locals reportedly fought the lion off with sticks. Meshi was transferred to a local hospital to receive medical attention.

“It was terrifying fear; for the first time in my life I felt fear, and the power of the lioness,” Meshi said.

Meshi was in South Africa for a joint training with South African volunteers and a ZAKA delegation from Israel. They were teaching the South Africans how to handle future disasters in the area.

During the trip, the volunteers took a break to go for jeep safari in the jungle.

Part of the experience included the chance to walk with lionesses in the wild. The group was briefed on safety and how to behave with the lions. Instructions included: do not bend over, do not kneel and do not stroke their heads. Meshi enjoyed a few minutes playing with lion cubs.

Later, he approached the full grown lionesses. He walked a short distance with his hand on a lioness’s back before she suddenly turned and attacked him.

“The lioness knocked me down and I couldn’t fall, because if I had fallen, she would have assaulted me,” Meshi explained. “Then everyone started hitting her with sticks, everyone was charging at her, including the photographer, so it was not filmed.”

He added, “I am not hospitalized at the moment, but they have given me tests to make sure there are no infections.”

Holocaust Survivors Celebrate Bar Mitzvahs at Kosel

More than 70 years after World War II ended, 45 Holocaust survivors in Israel finally got a chance to celebrate their bar and bat mitzvah ceremonies for the first time yesterday, Monday morning, at the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site.

The survivors reached bar or bat mitzvah age during the war or immediately afterwards, but because of their circumstances never got to participate in the ceremony marking a Jewish boy’s or girl’s entrance to adulthood. Alexander Buchnik, one of the participants in today’s event, said: “All my life, I felt that I missed it so much. I am so excited and happy.”

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Israel’s Office for Social Equality, and the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) sponsored the moving ceremony. Eighteen of the survivors also receive financial assistance throughout the year from IFCJ.

The survivors and their families joined Monday’s event, which included a tour of the tunnels under the Western Wall. The men put on Tefillin and read from the Torah, while the women participated in another ceremony at the Western Wall Tunnels Hall. The group ended the celebration dinning together.

Dashcam Captures Child Coming within Inches Tragedy

This is the terrifying moment a child came within inches of death after running from behind a bus and into the path of a massive lorry.

Heart-stopping dash-cam footage shows the boy getting off the bus in Høyanger, Norway, with a group of four other youngsters. The children initially wait at the side of the road but the boy - wearing white shorts and a dark top - wanders out into the road.

As the bus pulls away the huge red and white lorry looms into view but the youngster has no idea what is speeding towards him.

The HGV driver spots the child and slams on the brakes - somehow coming to a stop just inches from the panic-stricken boy.

The footage was shot on June 19 this year by truck driver Tor Bjørn Kyrkjebø.

Mr Kyrkjebø told NRK: 'I saw what was about to happen, but there was little I could do. 'I saw over the roof of the bus the truck was heading at it at a great speed. I blinked my lights and horn to alert the traffic and young people.'

He said he released the dash-cam footage to warn children about the dangers of busy roads.

Bus company Brakar said their driver had dropped the children off at an approved stop but confirmed it would launch an investigation to avoid 'similar unfortunate episodes in future'.
