A concrete pedestrian bridge collapsed on a central Israeli highway on Monday night, landing on a truck that was passing underneath at the time and precipitated its collapse.
The driver, who was seriously wounded, was trapped in the vehicle.
First responders and police rushed to the scene to attempt to extricate the man. The crane that his truck was towing struck the bridge, bringing it down onto the cabin. EMTs said that another person may have been in the vehicle with him. A policeman was very lightly injured when he climbed onto the truck to ascertain if anyone was trapped.
The bridge, located on Route 4, connects the Tel Aviv suburb of Bnei Brak with Givat Shmuel. The road was closed to traffic in both directions.
