Councilman Greenfield Takes On Neturei Karta Leader
VIN News - New York - Police ejected dozens of disruptive anti-Israel protesters from the New York City Council chamber during a debate on whether to adopt a resolution condemning boycotts of the Jewish State on Thursday.
The resolution in question, proposed by Council Member Andrew Cohen and supported by 33 of the council’s 51 members, proposes “condemning all efforts to delegitimize the State of Israel and the global movement to boycott, divest from and sanction the people of Israel.”
Protesters, some identifying as pro-Palestinian, some associated with the Black Lives Matter movement and Neturei Karta, among others, continually disrupted the hours-long proceedings, waving Palestinian flags and shouting that “Zionism is racism,” and “Free Palestine,” to the point that police emptied out the Council chambers’ entire top-floor balcony.
Contracts Committee chairwoman Helen Rosenthal, who was presiding over the meeting, implored the crowd to take a “deep yoga breath” and counted to three, to no avail, the New York Daily News reported.
New York City Councilman David Greenfield (Brooklyn – D) said he was “shocked by the depth of anti-Israel sentiment and naked anti-Semitism on display” at the meeting.
“Shocked, but sadly unsurprised,” Greenfield added. “Any time you hold the BDS movement and its supporters up to any kind of scrutiny, you find either that they are simply ignorant, or that their motivations are rooted in bigotry and hatred. We saw both kinds of BDS supporters at today’s hearing.”
During the debate, Greenfield reprimanded the leader of the anti-Israel ultra-Orthodox Neturei Karta sect Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss, who staged a sit-in on the chambers’ floor.

Tragedy in Monsey: Yeshiva Students Struck by Car Crash
VIN News - Spring Valley, NY - One yeshiva student who was standing with on the edge of a busy Suffern road is dead and another is in the hospital after being struck in a chain reaction crash involving a car and a minivan.
Ramapo Police said that the accident took place at 11:50 PM Wednesday night on Route 202 between Wilder and Limekiln roads and involved two cars, driving eastbound on roadway.
A 2008 Honda driven by 19 year old Tzvi Hakakian of Monsey had slowed down, possibly to turn into a driveway, when it was sideswiped by a 2016 Lexus that attempted to pass the Honda on the left side.
The Honda continued traveling eastward while the Lexus, driven by 24 year old Jonathan Mosquera of Suffern, veered off to the left, crossing the westbound lane of the highway and hitting two pedestrians who were standing near the edge of a driveway.
17 year old Marcus Tawil was taken by Hatzolah to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. David Maldonado was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he was admitted in serious condition. Both drivers were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Lieutenant Mark Emma of Ramapo Police said that the area where the accident took place was a no passing zone.
Test performed at the accident scene on Mosquera, an off duty officer with the Newburgh Police Department, indicated that neither drugs nor alcohol played any part in the accident.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the accident which took place near a dormitory for a Sephardic yeshiva.

TV Anchor Wrestles Alligator
A Boston sports anchor got into a surprise wrestling match with an alligator on air Friday.
Steve Burton was leading a segment with herpetologist Michael Ralbovsky when the alligator in his arms started flapping around.
The reptile seemed to be frightened by a nearby crocodile.
The alligator flailed in an attempt to escape the anchor's grasp, but Burton held firm until another herpetologist could take over.

Building Collapses in Tel Aviv
An underground parking structure collapsed Monday, killing at least two people and leaving several others trapped at the site in Tel Aviv’s Ramat Hahayal neighborhood.
Magen David Adom reported that it was treating 24 injured people. As of Monday afternoon, rescue crews were still searching for four to six people missing in the debris.
Col. Golan Vach of the Home Front Command said forces were sorting through the rubble to rescue the survivors, though no contact had been made with them so far.
Paramedics have already found a 35-year-old man who was killed in the collapse. A second victim was later reported to have been killed.
Two people trapped in the structure managed to call emergency services from the rubble.
The conditions of those trapped remained unknown, however, voices were heard by search and rescue operators indicating that some of the missing were alive, a MDA spokesman told The Jerusalem Post.
The incident occurred on the corner of Hanahoshet Street and Habarzel Street.
Yarkon District Police spokesman Eran Yehuda said that a number of the building's floors had collapsed in on themselves and there was a danger of further collapse.

Dramatic: Navy Plane Avoiding Crash off Aircraft Carrier
This is the terrifying moment a Navy plane nearly crashed into the sea when a metal cable used to catch the landing aircraft suddenly snapped and injured eight sailors.
A video shows the cable, stretched across the deck, slow down the E-2C Hawkeye plane as it prepares to land on the Norfolk-based aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower. But then the wire swiftly breaks from the aircraft's tail hook and the plane continues down the flight deck before it frighteningly disappears.
The crew was able to make a remarkable recovery. CBS's David Martin reports.

Dramatic Moment Boy Dangling from a Chairlift Rescued
This heart-stopping footage captures the moment a child was left dangling dangerously from a ski lift after he forgot to lower the safety bar.
The nine-year-old boy was left hanging approximately 10 meters above the ground after he leaned forward and slipped.
His horrified parents were forced to cling onto him as he hovered above the ground at Mount Hutt at Canterbury Plains in the South Island of New Zealand, until help arrived. Bystander Tony Kramers captured the dramatic footage and posted it online
