King Of Bahrain Hosts Menorah Lighting Ceremony

The small Muslim monarchy of Bahrain hosted a ceremony to celebrate the first night of Chanukkah, and the resulting video of kaffiyeh-wearing sheikhs dancing with Orthodox Jews to Hasidic music has been going viral

On Saturday night, the kingdom, ruled by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, held a candle-lighting ceremony in which Jews, business people and other Bahraini people took part.

Bahrain, a group of islands in Persian gulf with a population of 1.4 million, is the only Arab gulf state that has a synagogue. The country had a Jewish population of some 1,500 Jews in 1948. However, after the declaration of the State of Israel many left, and almost all those who remained followed suit after 1967’s Six Day War. Today there are less than 50 Jews in the country.

The kingdom is also unique in that its ambassador to the US from 2008-2010 was Houda Nonoo, a Jewish woman who had formerly served in the nation’s parliament.

Hamas slammed the Muslim monarchy of Bahrain for hosting a Hanukkah lighting ceremony which resulted in what it called a “humiliating and disgraceful” viral video of keffiyeh-wearing sheikhs dancing with Orthodox Jews to Hasidic music.

Pumpidisa in Baharain - Jews & Arabs Sing -Here is footage when the Pumpidisa Crew began to warm up the room —consisting of the top influential and wealthy powers in the Arab leadership of this region in the Middle East. As the video progresses, you can see how we began to 'stroll' the floor awhile drawing everyone in. This ultimately led to an energetic dance between the 2 cultures & religions -as seen in other videos all over the media nowadays.

Pumpidisa - Dancing in Bahrain Shuk Marketplace - "After Davening Shachris in Bahrain, we walked through the Shuk Marketplace and stopped in the City Center to share some song and dance. In many Arabic countries, such activity is close to illegal. However the reception was very pleasant and accepting. We wish the video would better show the many that clapped along from balconies above."

Some additional footage.

It wasn't the king! It was a random sheikh. Stop inflating stories
