Amazon Prime Air’s First Customer Delivery

It took just 13 minutes for Amazon to complete its first drone delivery, but that short trip could mark a major milestone for both the retailer and the transportation industry.

CEO Jeff Bezos said on Wednesday Amazon completed its first customer drone delivery as part of its "Amazon Prime Air" service.

A customer in the Cambridge area of England took Amazon's first unmanned delivery. Bezos' tweet linked to a video describing the service, which is currently in trial with just two customers.

"Prime Air has great potential to enhance the services we already provide to millions of customers by providing rapid parcel delivery that will also increase the overall safety and efficiency of the transportation system," Amazon said, on its website.

The unmanned aerial delivery service, announced back in July, will allow customers to choose from thousands of items, the company said. The drones are designed to deliver packages weighing up to five pounds in 30 minutes or less, the company said.

Amazon said it plans to expand the trial in the coming months.
