The "Beinoni" with Lyrics Describing the Nigun

The Nigun known as the "Beinoni."  It was the favorite song of the Previous Rebbe of Lubavitch, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak and is attributed to him.

Beinoni is the name given to one who constantly strives in his service of Hashem He struggle against his selfish drives and always wins the battle. But unlike the "Tzadik," his evil inclination is alive and well, and he must continuously fight it. The melody called The Beinoni reflects this struggle.

Lyrics based on Perek 27 of Tanya were added to the Nigun. The original song actually has no lyrics.

A typical Chossid, sitting and reflecting,
The bitter taste of failure fills him, Where am I heading?
I fought with all my might, I've done all I can do,
Yet it doesn't seem the change in me is real and true.

Though I know the truth, I feel I can not reach it,
I do the act,yet my heart doesn't feel it
My inspiration short, the battle long
My efforts are all worthless, Oh it feels so wrong!

For an answer to the Rebbe he turns,
As he is told, a Perek Tanya he learns
A deep and new perspective Chassidus does show,
My dear chossid this is what you mus know

All the millions of Malochim in the sky,
Andtzadikim rising high
In love and fear
All so dear, but don't come near
To Kol Dichiya U'Dichiya, even one,
Each struggle you overcome,
Each battle won
Every Tefilah, Every Mitzvah that is done.

Your Avoda gives Him Nachas and pleasure,
To Hashem you're the most precious treasure.
You build his Dirah in your world and heart,
through every soldier conquering his little part.

Through Kol Dichiya U'Dichiya, even one,
Each struggle you overcome, Each battle won
Every Tefilah, Every Brocha Every single word of Torah, day or night
Each Shema Yisroel you recite, each bit of light,
Is infinite and reaches to the greatest height.

This is your truth so start with one step towards it
It's not an act, for deep inside you mean it
Although perfection you may never see,
Yet to Hashem the battle is the victory.
