Seven siblings from a Syrian Orthodox Jewish family were killed early Saturday when a fire tore through their two-story Brooklyn home after they had gone to bed, a tragedy that authorities believe was caused by a malfunctioning hot plate left on during the Sabbath. The blaze took the lives of three girls and four boys - ages 5 to 16 - and left their mother and another child in critical condition. Fire officials said the flames would have prevented the mother, who escaped out a window, from trying to rescue her children.
The children killed in the fire have been identified as 16-year-old Eliane Sassoon, 11-year-old Rivkah Sassoon, 12-year-old David Sassoon, 10-year-old Yeshua Sassoon, 8-year-old male Moshe Sassoon, 6-year-old Sara Sassoon and 5-year-old Yaakob Sassoon.
“This is an unbelievable tragedy,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said after touring the charred residence. “Every New Yorker is feeling this pain right now.”
Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro called it the city’s worst fatal fire in recent memory.

Dramatic Rescue of Skier Caught in Avalanche
Video from a helmet camera shows the terrifying moment an Australian skier was buried by an avalanche while skiing with friends on the Swiss-French border. James Mort was at Les Crosets when he was trapped by the avalanche in January.

It was a sea of pleated skirts today Mar. 17, 2015 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn as over 13,000 Bais Yaakov girls, mothers and grandmothers gathered together to observe the 80th yahrtzeit of Sara Schenirer.
Parking was banned on Flatbush Avenue during the memorial gathering as 270 busses flooded the area bringing participants for a morning of inspiration that included addresses by Rabbi Malkiel Kotler, Rabbi Ephraim Wachsman, Rebbetzin Rena Tarshish and video addresses from Israel featuring the Gerrer and Belzer Rebbetzins and Rebbetzin Leah Kolodetsky, daughter of Rav Chaim Kanievsky.
92 schools from the tri-state area and as far away as Baltimore, Toronto, Cleveland and Boston sent delegations to the tribute, with live video hookups held in various places both in the United States and abroad including Chicago, Minneapolis, Deer Park, London and Belgium.

With Pesach fast approaching, the offer to tour the Manischewitz matza factory seemed like an opportunity that was too good to pass up.
Headquartered in Newark, New Jersey since 2006, Manischewitz controls a sizable portion of the mass produced matza market in the United States, where 80 percent of all matza consumed is made by machine. Videographer Yossi Tepper and I made the trip to Manischewitz headquarters to watch how man and machine work together throughout the tightly synchronized matza making process to ensure that matza is made quickly, accurately and most importantly, in strict accordance with halacha.

The Manischewitz matza factory, which boasts two 22,000 water gallon water tanks to hold its mayim shelanu and has a 150 foot oven which runs at over 600 degrees, is a far cry from the small matza bakery opened by Rabbi Dov Behr Manischewitz, a Lithuanian immigrant who began baking matza for his family and friends in Ohio in 1888.
As time went on, demands for Rabbi Manischewitz’s matza grew within Cincinatti’s Jewish community and by improving on existing matza making machinery, switching to gas ovens and making other upgrades, Rabbi Manischewitz soon began shipping matzas to Jewish communities worldwide.
Today, Manischewitz produces over 75 million matzas each year, all under the strict supervision of the Orthodox Union. Several eagle eyed mashgichim are in place throughout the entire production run, removing any potentially problematic matzas from the line.
Manischewitz produces 5,000,000 pounds of matza each year and gears up for Pesach production after Tish B’Av each summer. Included in the company’s annual matza totals is a special one day run of 3,500 cases shmura matza, made with flour from a specially supervised mill and is available in 10 ounce boxes both online and in select New York area stores.

Man Walks Away From a Spectacular Crash
National Hot Rod Association driver Larry Dixon is lucky to be alive.
The drag racer survived a horrifying crash after his car disintegrated and catapulted into the air then smashed into a barrier at 280 mph during Saturday's qualifying run at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Auto Plus Raceway in Gainesville, Fla. Dixon astonishingly walked away from the wreck with no injuries and even waved to the crowd. He described the crash as "a roller-coaster ride that flies off the track."

Eagle Descend From the World's Tallest Building
Darshan the eagle was flying high on Saturday morning, taking off from the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Darshan had a small camera strapped to his back and broke a world record while doing it, as an eagle has never flown from the building before. The flight was set up from Freedom Conservation to raise awareness about endangered birds. Make sure to watch all the way to the end to see his landing.

Dramatic Rescue Of Baby After Crash In River
Police have released body-camera footage that shows the frantic rescue of an 18-month-old Utah girl from a car that had crashed into a frigid river 14 hours earlier. The dramatic video from emergency responders’ cameras, released Friday, shows them discovering Lynn Groesbeck, 25, of Springville dead in the front seat, then finding her daughter, Lily Groesbeck, in the back seat.
The girl arrives by ambulance at a hospital some six minutes after she was lifted from the car and shows signs of life by vomiting and regaining her breath. A fisherman spotted the car March 7, the day after it hit a cement barrier on a bridge and careened into the river in Spanish Fork, about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City. Police said that even though the road over the bridge gets plenty of traffic, no one saw the wreck because the cement barrier obstructed the view. The girl, who was initially listed in critical condition, was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Elimelech wrote an infinite number of Kabalistic lectures and the treatise called ‘Noam Elimelech’, published in 1787, which comprises his outlook on the social and religious role of the Tzadik. Lizhensk became his first and most important center of Chasidism in all of Galicia.

This breathtaking video captures the moment a cyclist traverses an almost-vertical rock face to conquer the world's most dangerous trail - before making a return journey.
Michal Kollbek was filmed defying gravity as he made his way over the famed White Line in Sedona - a near impossible route carved into a rock in Arizona.
The stunning one-minute clip was filmed using a drone flying overhead and sees Polish rider Kollbek gradually make his way along the path with Red Rock State Park seen in the background.
The entire clip was shot from a drone that showed how Kollbek went all the way across the rock face, turned, and then came all the way back, completing the trip without any problems. Kollbek, 30, has had practice with extreme stunts before and the Polish rider has claimed numerous downhill racing titles. He claimed that he attempted the heart-stopping stunt because he happened to be in the area.To prepare for the horizontal ride, Kollbeck had to let air out of his tires to maxmimise their grip on the rocky face. He then adjusted the suspension on the bikes frame and raised his saddle and walked across the route himself to create a mental picture beforehand. 'I live for thrills like this, and I would have tackled this line whether it was filmed or not,' he told the Huffington Post.
