Skier's Plunge into Crevasse & Rescue

Gripping new video shows the moment a skier plunged into a Swiss Alps crevasse, followed by a dramatic rescue. Benjamin Spilthooren caught the terrifying May 24 fall on his helmet camera, and the video has since been posted online.

Spilthooren was skiing on a mountain when he tumbled down a crevasse, plunging head first with his arms flailing for about 25 feet. He pulled out an ice pick and tried to free himself, to no avail. After 17 minutes, a group of skiers made contact. They dropped him a rope, and he was able to work his way up and out of the crevasse. Spilthooren was not injured. Watch footage of the incident above.
