Pilot Runs Out of Fuel, Ditches Plane in Ocean

The pilot of a single engine Cirrus SR-22 aircraft was rescued after he ditched his plane 253 miles northeast of Maui, Hawaii. The pilot deployed the plane’s parachute system after the aircraft ran out of fuel Sunday afternoon.

The pilot was able to climb out of the plane and into a life raft, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The pilot was picked up by a nearby cruise ship and is said to be in good condition.
