The Department of Environmental Conservation's commissioner has determined that Kiryas Joel will be the lead agency for the proposed annexation of more than 500 acres of Monroe land. The news comes after months of delays from the state on who will lead the proposed land deal, which will double the size of the Hasidic community of Kiryas Joel. Kiryas Joel will now be overseeing the state's environmental review process on the proposal.
